Yet another random discovery on YouTube, this is such a cool song with such an awesome music video (with so many references) to accompany it! I’m not even that big of a sax fan, but Tim slays it (literally lawl)! This song is too good! I kinda’ wanna’ include all the references, but that’ll take the fun out of it for you guys. I don’t wanna’ give anything away, but I will say though, that Ryu is killin’ it on the drums haha See how many you can spot.
Honestly? Best Music Video of 2018!!!! That’s how it’s done, people.
“Did this world really exists? This 80’s flashy pink synth Miami Vice centered world? With people with white suits, sunglasses, full blasting this music in Ferrari testarossa on a highway in the middle of the ocean?
Did any of this exist? I want to believe it did…”
So I’ve kinda’ been on an 80’s music kick recently and accidentally stumbled upon Synthwave and I’ve become absolutely obsessed ever since! If you don’t know what Synthwave is, basically it’s “a genre of electronic music influenced by 1980s film soundtracks and video games“. It’s meant to sound like 80’s music, only better! Think along the lines of the Stranger Things soundtrack.
As the way it usually goes with YouTube, I was actually watching something (Crockett’s Theme from the Miami Vice Soundtrack) and one thing led to another, and before I knew it, I found myself going down the rabbit-hole… which is how I stumbled upon Synthwave. One song in particular has gotten me hooked! I’ve been listening to it nonstop for about a week now! It’s called Ocean Drive and it’s by Miami Nights 1984. They’ve got a bunch of other really awesome songs, but this one is hands down my favorite, out of the entire genre even! The scenes are actually taken from an Anime called Golgo 13, and as a fan of most Anime, I think this fits in quite seamlessly with the music!
As for the music, man oh man, is it something else! It just gets better and better with every listen! If I could, I would love to live in this song! Ocean Drive has single-handedly rekindled my affection for all things 80’s! In fact, Ocean Drive is the sole reason why my current mission in life is to somehow acquire a Ferrari Testarossa! My first choice was actually a DeLorean, except those are notoriously bad, so Testarossa it is (time to start saving up)!
If like me, 3 mins just doesn’t cut it for you, here’s the 1-hour-long extended version. I can already see myself blasting Miami Nights 1984 – Ocean Drive while driving my Testarossa sea-side in Kuwait at sunset!
Sick guitar improv! Adds a whole new dimension to an already ridiculously awesome song!
I hope you get as much enjoyment out of Miami Nights 1984 – Ocean Drive as I did!
