Also at Marina Mall, I popped by VaVaVoom.
I was actually looking for an Oscar De La Renta fragrance but couldn’t seem to find the brand (not at the Autumn Perfumes Exhibition and not at Harvey Nichols, not even at Sephora). I did however stumble upon the Juicy Couture counter which I didn’t even know existed there before now (I’ve been meaning to give Viva La Juicy Gold Couture a sniff since forever).
The lovely Filipina sales assistant was so helpful and accommodating that I ended up purchasing Viva La Juicy Gold Couture Eau de Parfum on the spot! She even tossed in a 3pc Holiday Candle Gift Set (red box) and filled up an 8mL Atomizer Spray for me (with a perfume of my choosing) and gave me several fragrance samples to boot!
The first memory I have of Topshop is as a teenager trying on their Jeans in one of their tiny changing rooms (which had no doors, only curtains because… Europe) while my friends were supposed to stand guard outside (preventing anyone from walking in on me). Clearly, they got distracted by something or other, because some woman actually did walk in on me, while I was changing. I was absolutely mortified! To add insult to injury, nothing at Topshop fit me. Not wanting to leave empty-handed (especially after finally coming across the fabled clothing store), I grabbed a few of their “jewelry pieces” (bright pink chunky plastic) from the Freedom range, but never actively sought out Topshop ever again.
On April 6 I found myself at Zara (the Marina Mall branch). It was around closing time (literally no time to try anything on), but there was a long line of people at the cash register, so I figured I at least had enough time to give the perfume testers a sniff and possibly pick one or two up. In all honestly, I was hoping for something similar to the long-discontinued Zara Black Peony Eau de Toilette (reviewed here). Unfortunately, some of the perfume testers wouldn’t even spritz (the atomizer had been damaged after being manhandled, I presume) while other perfume testers were straight up empty! One of the Sales Assistants walked over to me and suggested I give Zara Cashmere Rose a try. He said that they’d knocked the price down because they were phasing it out (only in Kuwait, because as far as I know, Zara Cashmere Rose is still production abroad) and as such, he’d stocked up, for his wife. The tester was at the check-out counter so I followed him there. The scent was beautiful and I said so, to which he replied, “just like you” (which I thought was inappropriate). I didn’t know it at the time but apparently I’d snatched up the very last Zara Cashmere Rose and I’ve been showing it a lot of love ever since!
I actually didn’t do much shopping for clothes this Winter. However, when I went back to Promod to pick up my Maxi Jersey Skirt (hauled here) after some alterations (it had to be shortened lawl) at Marina Mall, I spotted the Sales Assistant hanging up (meaning they were super new) the coolest Biker Jackets of life, over at Bershka! I made a bee-line towards the gorgeous jacket, all the while making excited cooing and squealing noises. Once I reached the magnificent jacket I just sorta’ gazed up at it reverently, while still making cooing noises, up until the Sales Assistant deigned to assist me with a “May I help you?”
After that got sorted, he pawned me off (I suspect my
craziness eccentricity made him feel a wee bit uncomfortable) on a female Sales Assistant, who was way more eager to help (she did her job with such gusto!) making my experience at Bershka… a much more enjoyable one! I walked away with a stunning Biker Jacket, an insanely cool Biker Waistcoat, and a ridiculously adorable Furry Hooded Jacket! Sure, I plunked down KD 53/800 but you can’t put a price on cool (actually… kinda’ just did, but whatever, just go with it). Also, like I said earlier, I haven’t done much shopping for Winter stuff (justification). Also, everything I got really was just so cool! I think… I’m kinda’ in love with Bershka now!
Since the Big Sale was still on-going, and I was at Marina Mall anyway, I decided to check out their Bath & Body Works, hoping to find the place in a much better state than the Avenues branch (which as I said earlier, here, was a complete mess). No such luck. The place was just as messy and chaotic, if not more so, than the other branch. I couldn’t find anything I was interested in, other than 2 cutesy PocketBacs and 4 lemon-y Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps. I haven’t used any of the stuff yet, because I’m currently working my through the other stuff from my previous haul (here). Still, I’m pretty excited to try them out, when I finally do get around to it!
I was all the way on the other side of Marina Mall, the side I rarely frequent, the sea-side facing front of Marina Mall. It was the side that had Cinnabon and Decathlon located next to each other (lawl). I was actually there to purchase a Gift Certificate from Decathlon as a Birthday Gift for a friend (who was more than a little obsessed with fitness and exercise). Once I got what I’d came for, I figured I could hotfoot it all the way to the opposite end of Marina Mall (all the way to the back) to check out MAC and Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret (which were so very conveniently bunched together).
No sooner had I taken a step in that direction, when I spotted the most darling sweater of all time! It was all white (Ecru) with a sweet black ribbon at the back and everything! I just had to try it on. Once I set foot in the store, I noticed my beloved Red and Blue (Navy and Burgundy) Striped Print on a jumper and grabbed that to try on too. In fact, I found a multitude of truly lovely pieces at the french boutique, Promod. Unfortunately, as with most European Clothing Stores, most of the stuff dwarfed my 5’1 frame and just fit all weird on me. That said, I still managed to walk away with a Black Maxi Jersey Skirt (which had to be significantly shortened) and the softest Cable-Knit Jumpers of life!
As I mentioned in my previous The Body Shop haulage posts (here) and (here), I wasn’t going to wait so long between visits (so that I wouldn’t go crazy when I finally did go). I was at the Marina Mall branch of The Body Shop (even though it’s not the largest in the country, it’s my fave branch, for some reason) and noticed that they were having a sale. So I made a
quick stop and picked up a few things (mostly skincare). I haven’t gotten a chance to try everything out yet, but there’s a few items in here that have already seriously impressed me!
