Ramadan this year happened to coincide with Nordstrom’s annual “Pick 3 Mascaras, Get 1 of them Free” deal. Apparently, most people take advantage of this opportunity, to go after some of the more expensive mascaras (I’m talkin’ crazy expensive).
However, since it was boiling hot in Kuwait, towards the end of May, I wasn’t as willing to risk spending a crazy amount on mascaras, that might possibly arrive all dried up, especially since, after purchasing a handful of Kaftans via Instagram for Ramadan, I was pretty much skint. In fact, I was so broke, I actually debated whether I should just skip ordering online, for the time being.
Then again, the deal on mascaras was too good to pass up! Also, after spending a certain amount, customers qualified for the “Sample Pack of the month” (haulage here), not to mention the Gift with Purchase which totally sweetened the deal!
– Kilian Black Phantom (Memento Mori) Body Lotion
– Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Parfum Intense (arrived already opened)
– Maison Lancome Oud Bouquet Eau de Parfum (x2 travel-size)
While I busy at work not working, I noticed that Nordstrom were now selling my beloved Black Phantom (Memento Mori) (haulage here) as both a Body Lotion and a Shower Gel! Also new to Nordstrom was the latest take on the infamous Black Opium, which was Black Opium Intense. I was still debating whether I should purchase yet another Body Lotion and Perfume, when I happened to notice that the travel-size version of the ever elusive Oud Bouquet was back in stock! That settled that!
As soon as I got home, I hurriedly placed my order. As per usual, there were a ton of Gifts with Purchase and Samples that came along with the order, and everything arrived safely (not a thing was damaged)!
The only reason I placed this order, was because I noticed that Nordstrom was selling Maison Lancôme Ôud Bouquet Eau de Parfum… in a travel size version!!!! I’d been obsessed with Oud Bouquet for quite some time now (spotted here and later here) so finding a smaller and consequentially cheaper version, online, was kismet! Sadly, it kept going out of stock, almost as soon as it’d appeared online. So, I patiently bided my time and waited for it to come back in stock.
That said, my previous Skincare Haul from Nordstrom (haulage here) had included several chemical exfoliators and as such, meant I needed to invest in some decent Sun Protection (mainly the blue Shiseido one, which I’d been eyeing for a minute now). So, I figured I’d purchase some Sunscreen/Sun Block/Sun Protection (while the weather allowed and was still cool, enough not to damage or alter the contents being shipped) and snatch up the ever elusive travel-size Lancôme Ôud Bouquet Eau de Parfum while I was at it!
Again, several of the brands had really cool Gifts With Purchase! Not to mention the Winter Beauty Bundle (20pc deluxe samples) with every $125 spent on Skincare! Once Oud Bouquet popped back up, I placed my order immediately (literally 5 days after my previous order with Nordstrom), making sure that I qualified for most of the Gifts With Purchase (as you can see in the photo below).
Basically, Oud Bouquet was the main reason I’d placed this order, but sadly it went out of stock again and was canceled from my order. On the bright side, at least they still sent over the Lancome Gift With Purchase, which was nice! Plus, the fact that I only purchased 5 items (1 Mascara + 4 different types of Sunscreen) and managed to accumulate a whole bunch of other stuff, along with them, was pretty suh-weet! The subtotal was $169 (around KD 50) but with $15 (KD 4/500) for tax, ended up being $184 (around KD 55).
Smashbox Glam In a Flash Kit
The Lancome Drama Look
Not my first choice, but whatever. All the other options (here), were even worse lol
I like how they went from asking me to flat-out stop taking pictures (here and here) to now offering to hold up the products for me while I take the picture LOL I spotted some of the New Collections (new to Kuwait, rather) and a new Hair Care Brand called Briogeo, some fun Asian Skincare and more than a few absolutely stunning Palettes! With that being said, now that I’m getting older, I find myself… dare I say it… kinda’ losing interest in makeup (I’m 33). Not a lot seems to wow me anymore. I’ve also noticed the same thing happening with my choice of fragrance (I’m starting to turn away from all things candy and find a lot of my once-beloved gourmands straight up annoying now). If I ever fall out of love with videogames though, I’d be completely devastated (might as well not live anymore, after that! lawl). Thankfully, that hasn’t happened… yet.
Like I said, Lancome and Dior are some of my first makeup brands so they’ll always hold a special place in my heart, no matter what. My love affair with Lancome began with their mascaras. My first “black” mascara ever was from Lancome, purchased for me by my mom. I talked more in-depth about my first experience with Lancome mascaras (here). Shortly after, that same love spread to their lipglosses (most of the Juicy Tubes) and a few random bits (Aqua Fusion Moisturizer, Peach-y Blush, literally everything in the Lancome “Calypso” Collection including an Eye Shadow Quad, Blue Nail Polish, and several Lip Products). I’ll still pick up a tube of Lancome Oscillation Mascara (reviewed here) every now and again, and use it as a topper (or even on it’s own because it’s just that good) or pick up random makeup-y bits on a whim. Even though I previewed the Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation (here) I didn’t end up purchasing it. My last Lancome purchase (prior to this haul) was Lancome Grandiose Mascara (previewed here) but I never got around to reviewing it (soz!)
More recently, at the Perfume & Makeup Exhibition (Mishref Fair Grounds) I stopped by the Beidoun Booth to check out the sets available at Lancome. Just like Clinique (who are constantly churning out Value Sets and Gift Sets and all kinds of sets really) Lancome are also known to come out with a few desirable sets of their own. I was only interested in the new Energie de Vie Skincare Collection (green ombre packaging), the antioxidant liquid moisturizer specifically but other than that, I wasn’t really planning on getting anything. With that being said, the sales assistants were all so lovely and accommodating (as always, just like all Beidoun employees, as opposed to the horrible aggressively pushy Alshaya employees) that I obligingly picked up a Douceur Cleansing Trio which consisted of the cult classic Bi-Facil (Dual Phase) Eye Makeup Remover, a Cream Cleanser (my preferred way of removing makeup) and a Toner (to play around with), all full-sized. The sales assistants were all so very helpful that I couldn’t help pick up yet another set called Effortless Chic Eyes that consisted of a full-sized Lancome Hypnose Volume-a-porter Mascara (black), mini-size Lancome Crayon Khol (black), and full-size Lancome Lip Lover (Rose Attrape-Coeur). The Cleansing Trio normally retails for KD 22/750 but I got it for KD 14/790 and the Effortless Chic Eyes Set retails for KD 13/000 but I got it for only KD 8/000! Not only was their a significant discount on both Sets, but I also received a generous supply of samples including some from the Energie de Vie range! I walked away feeling great about my extremely pleasant experience at the Lancome counter! The sales assistants were lovely and actually helpful! They were also quite generous with the samples! Best of all, there were several great deals on already marked down Value Sets! Can you fault me for loving Lancome?
