On July 23 2020 I went to The Avenues to return/exchange some stuff that I’d purchased online from Centerpoint (here) and H&M (here).
Aside from that one time Mera and I went to the Starbucks Drive-Thru before swimming (June 19) and the day after, when we went to Five Guys to grab some food before the nationwide curfew (June 20), this was my first real outing since the lockdown!
It felt so strange being back at The Avenues after everything that had gone down.
For starters, everyone including myself, was wearing a mask. It felt so surreal!
There were long queues of people waiting their turn outside every store.
As an added bonus, it was an extra humid day and the ACs were not working, meaning every store at The Avenues was basically a sweat lodge lol
After I’d gotten my Centerpoint stuff sorted out (and I was no longer wheeling a huge shopping cart around the mall) I decided to take a quick peek inside Bath and Body Works (the branch facing Carrefour) and ended up getting a few things from there (on sale).
Full disclosure, my previous order (this) still hadn’t arrived when I picked these babies up.
During the lockdown, I was pretty much swimming on the daily and consequentially sharing my Shampoo with friends and family. Naturally, I was starting to run low on Shampoo and it was starting to worry me.
I wasn’t certain how long the online stores would remain open during the lockdown (thinking they could all shut down at any moment).
So, I stocked up on not only Shampoo but Conditioner and Oil Replacement and even Hair Serums.
Did I overdo it? Possibly, but then again, we were in the midst of a pandemic.
Bath and Body Works were having a sale and not gonna lie, my previous haul (this) was kinda’ disappointing, so on July 8 2020 I placed another online order with them.
A lot of stuff was missing (out of stock, because of the sale) but they refunded me (my money was back in my account) in a little under two weeks.
Everything arrived individually wrapped in bubble wrap and there was no breakage nor leakage.
As if the previous promos (KD 1/750 Showers Gels and KD 2/500 Body Lotions) weren’t enough, seemingly out of the blue, Bath & Body Works had a Flash Sale… only days before “Black Friday“!
– 3-wick Candles were reduced from KD 8 to KD 3 each
– Shower Gels were reduced from KD 5/500 for KD 2/750
– Mini Perfume Sprays (travel size eau de parfums) were reduced from KD 4/500 to KD 1/750
– Hand Soaps were reduced from KD 3/750 to KD 1/750
– Fragrance Mists were reduced from KD 7 toKD 2/750
– Travel Size Fragrance Mists were reduced from KD 3/250 to KD 1/750
– Travel Size Body Lotions were reduced from KD 2/750 to KD 1/750
– Room Sprays were reduced from KD 2/750 to KD 1/750
– Wallflower Refills were reduced from KD 2/250 to KD 1
– Scentportable Holders (car fragrance) were reduced to KD 1
The total for this online order was KD 50/500 (free shipping)
Once again, I was feeling pretty smug about placing my order when I did, because the 40% Off promo they had for “Black Friday” (or “Cyber Week” as they call it on the site), was pretty disappointing and not nearly as good as the one they had during the Flash Sale.
I even included the percentage saved next to each item (nicked from their site, I didn’t math this time lol) just to show you guys the difference. It adds up, you guys.
Needless to say, I did not purchase anything online or in-store from our local Bath&Body Works during “Black Friday” (hard pass).
I placed my order on November 21 and everything (including the wasteful pages and pages of the receipt/invoice) arrived safely and well-packaged the next day.
When I took the kids to see Toy Story 4 at Souq Sharq (fully gory deets here), we hit up Fantasy World and Bath&Body Works (dis) and MAC before the movie, and Sultan Center after the movie (dis).
I wasn’t even planning on going in to MAC (especially since I had the little monsters with me), up until I clocked the display for the crazy cute Limited Edition Fix+. One thing led to another and I ended up leaving with these 2 cuties! They were sorta’ repurchases and sorta’ not. I’m just really having a moment with all things Mini/Travel-Size! They’re cuter, cheaper (not necessarily cost-effective but whatevs) and easier to carry around or store!

Towards the end of June, Nordstrom came out with x2 more Sample Packs. One, was a mix of Makeup and Skincare (dis), which wasn’t particularly exciting. The other, was this Fragrance Sample Pack, which was very enticing!
For starters, it came with a sample of Mugler Angel Eau Croisière which I was dying to sniff! The pack also included several flankers of well-loved gourmands, Prada Candy and CH Good Girl and V&R Flowerbomb and YSL Black Opium and YSL Mon Paris! I was pretty excited about the samples from Atelier Cologne and Diptyque and Replica and my beloved Kilian as well! Also, most of these were new-new!
In hindsight though, I totally should’ve skipped the Fragrance Sample Pack (June) because it was mostly either floral-y florals (yuck) or overly sharp and citrus-y scents (namely Peach, ugh).
Choose a Free Gift with Your $85 Women’s or Men’s Fragrance Purchase. During our Scent Event, try samples from Jo Malone, Atelier Cologne, Voluspa and more. Promo code (PINK or YELLOW) required. Plus, when you spend $100, you’ll also get a “bonus” gift.
Nordstrom were having yet another Scent Event and giving away x2 Fragrance Sample Packs (your choice of Yellow or Pink, each with different fragrance samples) during the month of April. I’ll list everything included in both packs below. Both packs included several items that I already own, but as you can see, I decided to go with the Yellow mainly because the adorable, itty-bitty Yellow Cosmetics Bag looked more appealing to me lol I’ll also be listing all the notes below (if I can find them) for everything that came with the Yellow Pack. Lastly, since I spent well over $100 I also qualified for the “bonus” gift which was a Nest Grapefruit Reed Diffuser!
I finally caved and decided to buy Kilian Black Phantom (Memento Mori) Eau de Parfum (purchased for a whopping KD 116) (mentioned here), rather than continuing to lust after it from afar (here). The fact that the sales assistant (stationed at the Lancome Fragrances) was such a sweetie was also a major factor! I mean… homeboy hooked it up!
He drowned me in Black Phantom (literally dousing me with the stuff!) and willingly filled up several of those little vials for me (with scents that I chose) and gave me several more fragrance samples that he thought I might enjoy and gave me a Dolce & Gabbana Duo Set (Perfumed Body Lotion + Lipstick) and gave me an Estee Lauder Cosmetics Bag (which was filled with a mish-mash of Travel-Size Estee Lauder products and an actual Travel-Size Armani Perfume that he’d stuffed in there for me)!
He did me right! Enough to where I felt obligated to purchase something from his station! So, I picked up another Perfume that I’d been lusting after, which was Lancome Tresor Midnight Rose Eau de Parfum (purchased at a more reasonable KD 43)!
KILIAN created MY KIND OF LOVE, an entire new fragrance collection for young lovers: five scents inspired by moments of seduction without inhibitions, audacious declarations of love and the will to love freely.
I was pretty much stalking Sephora ever since I discovered Black Phantom (Memento Mori) by Kilian, which was how I stumbled on them setting up the display for the new Kilian Perfumes! They had cute packaging and absurdly long names, but were considerably less expensive than Kilian Perfumes from previous collections. Sadly, as you can see, not all 5 made it to our little Kuwait, but hey, 3 is better than none, amirite or amirite?
I also spotted the “gender neutral” Fragrance brand called Commo̲dity (pics below) and last but certainly not least, they’ve finally started selling Farsáli at our local Sephora!
Like I said in my previous post (here), I was sick of paying top
dollar dinar and still having to deal with all the unpleasantness at the local stores. So, I turned to online shopping and one store that really stood out to me was Nordstrom. They had everything you could think of, including brands that have yet to reach Kuwait (give ’em a year… or ten lawl)! I purchased a ton of skincare and ended up getting a ton of deluxe samples as a “gift with purchase”, all for only KD 100 ($331.52 with tax)!
Everything was properly packaged (not one thing arrived damaged) and was shipped pretty much the next day! They also had great customer service with agents available on the 24-hour live chat pop-up to answer any of your questions! You could tell these guys were trained because they knew exactly what they were talking about and they got back to you instantly (unlike the 15 minute wait at Carriage for them to only tell you “I don’t know” lol so useless). Even on the off-chance that customer service reps at Nordstrom didn’t know something, they’d transfer you to the proper department in a matter of seconds! They were so professional! More importantly, they were all extremely polite and actually quite friendly!
Basically, from the products, to the price, to the attitude of the customer service reps, the whole experience was massively different to the experience of shopping at any given store in Kuwait! You don’t have to take my word for it either! Just compare this Nordstrom Haul to any given Sephora Haul and you can spot the different for yourself! Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied with the whole experience of shopping online from Nordstrom and will continue to do so in the future!
I got some stuff from Herbivore Botanicals and Sunday Riley, both of which are skincare brands that I have yet to see in Kuwait. You wouldn’t think it, but to me, Buxom Lip Creams are one of the most elusive beauty products I’ve ever tried to acquire. It was next to impossible to get my hands on this stuff… and I’ve seriously been trying… for years! +10 years later, I’ve finally gotten my hands on the shade White Russian! I can die happy now! I also got a small size of the infamous ExfoliKate which I’ve wanted to try for years now, but could never find. I picked up the COSRX Low pH BHA Overnight Mask because it seemed like a great starting point to ease my skin into this whole chemical exfoliating business. Also, COSRX is a Korean brand. Arguably the best thing out of this entire haul, was the discovery of my beloved Lancome Oscillation Mascara (full review here), which I was told was discontinued, but apparently is still being sold world-wide, just not in Kuwait.
