I was at Marina Mall, to check out a certain fragrance at Jo Malone (which ended up being a disappointment) among other things, when I decided to hit up Bath & Body Works just to browse around.
As luck would have it, I spotted several Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps (not one, not two, not three, but four different scents, granted one was Sweater Weather, ugh)! All of them were from the Fall Traditions 2019 Collection (as evident by the delightfully autumnal names and ugly cartoon-y packaging).
The Autumn Perfumes Exhibition took place at Mishref Fair Grounds (Halls 5,6,7,8) during October 24 and was meant to end on November 6, but was extended to November 9 (because… weekend).
I managed to get a lot of gift shopping out of the way:
(Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de L’Homme EDP for my cousin)
(Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium EDP for my cousin’s wife)
(Guerlain Mon Guerlain EDP for my uncle’s wife)
(Paco Rabanne Invictus Gift Set for my other cousin)
I also managed to snag several goodies for myself:
(Carolina Herrera Good Girl Gift Set)
(Marc Jacobs Decadence EDP)
(Hugo Boss Boss The Scent Private Accord – For Her EDP)
(Maison Lancome Les Parfums Grands Crus Travel Set x4 travel sprays)
Thankfully, there were a lot of good deals on some of this stuff (hefty discounts) and I even got some fragrance samples to boot! Unlike last year’s visit where I ended up with some duds (Perfume Fails), I was extremely happy with everything I purchased during this year’s Autumn Perfumes Exhibition! All the haulage took place in one hall (dis) because I rarely ventured out to the other halls.
Satisfied with the haulage, I leisurely surveyed the hall (the only one I ever visit) one last time before leaving the place and was delighted to find several niche brands including Amouage and Memo and Kilian and more, all offering substantially discounted fragrances! Naturally, I had to hit up the Kilian booth!
I sniffed several scents at the Kilian booth, but none of them really appealed to me… until I smelled Apple Brandy! I’d never even seen, let alone heard of Apple Brandy at our local Sephora before (pics here), because apparently Apple Brandy was exclusive to the brand’s boutique in New York City. It was love at first sniff!!!!
The final fragrance I purchased during this year’s Autumn Perfumes Exhibition was Apple Brandy by Kilian!
Lastly but certainly not least were the Candles and Wallflower Bulbs I picked up during The Big Sale. Some were purchased in-store and the ones I couldn’t find in-store were purchased online.
I picked up x14 large 3-wick Candles and x2 Jar Candles and x3 Wallflower Bulbs. I haven’t started burning any of them just yet because ironically, for the past two weeks I’ve been sick with the flu (hence lack of new posts lol)
3-Wick Candles were reduced from KD 8 each to KD 4 each
Single Wick Jar Candles were reduced from KD 6 – KD 5 each to KD 2/500 each
Wallflower Refill Bulbs were reduced from KD 2/250 each to KD 1 each
I was out with the kids again and the youngest was misbehaving. I was already dead tired, but I’ve kinda’ made it a point to dole out swift, if not immediate punishment, when it comes to the kids (so they remember). As such, I dropped her off at home and went right back outside, taking the other two along with me. The youngest was visibly upset at being left out, as intended.
Anywho, I’ve been meaning to get the older two started on wearing antiperspirant/deodorant regularly. They participate in all sorts of water-related activities at Summer Camp, from “Swimming Day” to “Foam Football” (Soccer for the Americans) to regular “Sports Day” all of which involved them showering afterwards over there, and then I get them to shower again back at home, before bed (well, except the eldest, who only washes her body regularly, but her hair every other day, because I don’t think her hair can handle daily washing). Despite the constant showers, the kids can smell a bit… ripe. Also, it’s shaping up to be an exceptionally hot Summer in Kuwait.
So I took them to Sultan Center (Salmiya) where they each got to pick out their own Deodorant. We also stocked up on some snackage (some healthy, but mostly not) and on our way back home, despite being way past their bedtime, decided to made a quick stop at the McDonald’s Drive-Thru on Gulf Road and treat each of them to an Oreo McFlurry (knowing full well that they were going to go back and gloat about it to their younger sister). It was around 2:30am at this point, and yet the beach was packed with families just hanging out! Even the McDonald’s Kiddie Playground (outside) was crowded with kids (of all ages) running around, as happy as you please.
Back home, the youngest was so upset at being left out (most definitely imagining that her brother and sister were out having all kinds of fun, while she was stuck at home) that she chose to stay up and wait for us. As soon as we walked in with bags of
groceries snackage, her eyes widened like saucers and she proceeded to grill her siblings about where they’d gone, what they’d done, etc… The eldest did not miss this opportunity to answer with great relish. It’s been weeks, but the youngest hasn’t misbehaved since!
While browsing through the New Arrivals section up on Nordstrom, I spotted an exciting new version of my beloved Light Blue called Light Blue Sun. It listed Coconut Water (which I adore in most forms) in the fragrance notes! I mean…c’mon, Light Blue + Coconut Water just sounded awesome! So, despite my luck (or lack-thereof) with purchasing perfumes before actually smelling them, this was yet another blind-buy lol Since I was going to have to pay extortionate shipping fees regardless, I figured I might as well purchase a few more items, to even out the shipping cost (I mathed).
I picked up something from the Too Faced collab with Erika Jayne and to qualify for the Too Faced Gift with Purchase also purchased a Too Faced Mascara (travel size). Lastly, since I’d actually sampled Mon Paris earlier (here) and over time, grew to enjoy the scent, I sprung for the YSL Mon Paris Eau de Parfum Set (3oz/90mL + 1oz/30mL).
Since the total for everything was more than $100 I ended up qualifying for both the April Skincare Sample Pack (here) and April Fragrance Sample Pack (here) and the April Bonus Gift (here) and got to pick out 3 samples for free.
– Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Sun Eau de Toilette (Limited Edition)
– Too Faced x Erika Jayne Pat The Pu$$ Kissable Body Shimmer (Limited Edition)
– Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (travel size)
– Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris Eau de Parfum Set
Rush (Signature Collection) – Velvet Petals (Signature Collection) – Jasmine Noir (Midnight Blooms Collection) – Afterparty Angel (Fashion Show Collection) – Glitter Hustle (Disco Nights Collection) – Shot of Coconut (Juiced Collection)
Like I said in my previous post (here), they brought out all the Limited Edition Collections of the past year (Fashion Show Collection – Angel Collection – Disco Nights Collection, etc…) and knocked them down to half price, whereas the Signature Collection (permanent and can be purchased at any time from any branch) in the old-school packaging (Love Spell – Pure Seduction – Aqua Kiss, etc…) as well as all the newer collections (Cozy Collection – Midnight Blooms Collection – Star Struck Collection, etc…) retailed for KD 7 (full price) but were included in a “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” promo.
I ended up getting 2 from the Signature Collection (plain packaging) for KD 7 each, qualifying me for a third one, either from the Signature Collection or any of the newer collections (for free) so I chose Jasmine Noir (newer collection). The other 3 (Afterparty Angel – Glitter Hustle – Shot of Coconut) were not included in the “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” promo, since they were from older collections, but they had all been reduced to only KD 3/500 each. As you can see from the plain packaging, the first two (Rush + Velvet Petals) were from Signature Collection (permanent), whereas the rest were all Limited Edition.
I had a wonderful time sniffing and playing around with all those Fragrance Mists! I could’ve stayed there forever! Best of all, the sales assistants left me alone (to play in peace), for the most part, because they were so busy with other customers!
Seeing as how popular my previous Zara Perfume posts were (Cashmere Rose is almost always listed in the Top 10 Posts in the side-bar), I picked up a total of x19 Zara Fragrances for around KD 120 to review (but also because I’m kinda’ obsessed with fragrances now and also because I was hoping to find some “hidden gems”). For starters, just like their clothing, Zara regularly comes out with a lot of excellent duplicates or “dupes” of best-selling high-end and designer perfumes.
That said, keep in mind, as with most cheap-y fragrances with a high alcohol content, these do not last as long. As such, most of them were pretty inexpensive (the lowest ranging from KD 4/900 and the highest ranging to KD 10/900)! I’d also like to point out that although certain fragrances might still have the same name, Zara tends to reformulate them (completely switching up the scent) and change the packaging, from year to year. Lastly, these are just my “first impressions” and my opinion is subject to change (so please don’t be offended if you happen to love a certain scent and I don’t).
