I was at The Avenues with my younger brother’s wife when we (and by we, I mean me) decided to stop by a Sephora (I say a, as if we have more than one Sephora in Kuwait lawl). I was dumbfounded by my sister-in-law’s maturity (I’m pretty sure I’m at least 6-8 years older than her) because she exercised such restraint (masha’allah) and only purchased a few items, and even then, they were only things she would actually use, as opposed to myself randomly grabbing products left and right (just kidding, they were all “necessities”) and tossing them in my shopping basket (that they hand out at the entrance to Sephora). Even at the zigzag-y queue leading to the check-out counter, she showed little to no interest in all the ridiculously adorable minis! I was starting to suspect that she wasn’t really human (because how could anyone not be enticed by those cute minis at the zigzag-y queue?) and so as a final test I pointed out the GlamGlow PoutMud, mumbled something or other and tossed it in my shopping basket, to which she exclaimed that she was interested in trying it as well, and tossed one in her own shopping basket. Success! My adorable sister-in-law had succumbed to the cuteness of a Lip Scrub which meant she was a red-blooded human being (not an Alien life-form impervious to human wants like “makeup-y bits”) after all!

Sephora Mini Haulage

Sephora got a whole bunch of NEW MAKEUP BRANDS!!!! Well, new to Kuwait, at least. In fact, I could only get my hands on them (in the past) by ordering online, and even then not all the brands were easily accessible. During my visit to Sephora, I noticed that they had Anastasia (which I used to order from Beauty.com back in 2007 before all the hype) and Tarte (also ordered from Beauty.com only much later, around the time when they first introduced the Amazonian Clay Blush) and Becca (never owned anything from this brand before, but I’ve been dying to try the Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighters) and Kat Von D (never got a chance to order anything from this brand before either, but apparently everyone loves their Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks), just to name a few. They also sectioned off a whole area focused on skincare with the usual brands, some newer brands, and brands I’ve never even heard of before. Just before the cash register, they had an entire shelf dedicated to Face Masks and Scrubs (namely GlamGlow but there were some other brands including Peter Thomas Roth and Starskin). Best of all, when you queue in line at the check-out counter, instead of it being a straight line, it’s now more of a zigzag, with shelves on either side, chock-full of travel-sized minis of their most-loved and best-selling products!

I got a really cool Makeup Brush from Becca, and one of the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks from Kat Von D in an absolutely stunning shade, but while waiting my turn at the new zigzag-y queue, couldn’t resist snatching up yet another travel-sized GlamGlow product. As intended, the zigzag-y queue is meant to sucker us into buying even more products before we leave Sephora. Myself as well as others will probably fall victim to the adorable travel-sized minis at the zigzag-y queue, many times over. So… kudos, Sephora, for your ploy has succeeded!

Sephora Loyalty Program

Here’s everything I know about the Sephora Loyalty Program in Kuwait, so far. Supposedly, signing up for the Sephora Loyalty Program is free. However, you can only sign up after making a purchase. In my case, I was only at the check-out counter because I was getting the GlamGlow Holiday Set (hauled here) and a few of the newer (at the time) Sephora Face Masks, when they asked me if I had a Sephora Card and if not, would I be interested in signing up for one (as they were ringing up my purchases). Once you sign up for the Sephora Loyalty Program at the check-out counter at Sephora, they hand you a White Sephora Card. After 72 hours, your Sephora Loyalty Program account is finally activated (you get access to the site) and you get an e-mail with a voucher (that expires in 2 months) to claim your “Welcome Gift”… with your next purchase. Personally, I thought that was silly. Why couldn’t they have just given me the “Welcome Gift” when I signed up in-store? I’d just made a purchase. I was already there. I wasn’t about to drive all the way back to the Avenues (which isn’t exactly the most convenient of locations really) just to make yet another purchase at Sephora (so soon after my previous Sephora purchase), just to get the “Welcome Gift”.

GlamGlow YouthMud was literally the most talked about face mask, ever… and might still very well be. All the well-established magazines kept featuring it. Well-known blogs were constantly mentioning it. Makeup Girls on YouTube were churning out video after video on how to apply it. Everyone was obsessed with GlamGlow Mud Masks! Quite frankly, they made it sound like it was the second coming. Naturally, I was dying to get my hands on a jar of this miraculous product. Sadly, Aramex have confiscated or straight up refused to ship my packages in the past (due to the shipping restrictions) so I wasn’t sure that they’d deliver this little miracle-worker in a jar. So I bided my time and waited… and waited… and waited (very patiently, if I do say so myself… which I do). Finally, this stuff made it to Kuwait and I quickly snatched up a jar of magic (can’t remember the exact amount I shelled out but it felt overpriced) for yours truly from Sephora.

Sephora Haul

It’s not really a Beauty Expo without Sephora now is it? ;) One of the interesting things I noticed at the Sephora booth was that they had grab bags for sale. Just pay KD 10/000 and get a random assortment of up to five or more full-sized products. I didn’t manage to get one but I hope they have something like that next time too. Did any of you lovelies manage to snag a grab bag? If so, please share with us the products you found.
