Also at Mishref Fair Grounds, while paying for Black Feather Eau de Parfum (haulage here) by the local brand Al Mudaires, the guy manning the cash register spritzed Al Jalila Eau de Parfum by the brand Al Battash Luxury on the fragrance-tester (strip of paper) and handed it to me in the hopes of enticing me into purchasing it. Spoiler Alert: it worked.
In case you were wondering, many of the booths at Mishref Fair Grounds didn’t have their own cash register (for whatever reason), which was why certain cash registers were designated for use with several booths (very chaotic ergo very Kuwaity).
While paying for my Al Mudaires purchase at one of those cash registers, I ended up actually liking the scent on the fragrance-tester that the guy had given me! The bottle was gaudy AF, but the scent was nice and fruity! The gentleman further enticed me, by saying it had been reduced from KD20+ to now only KD5! I’ve never heard of Al Battash Luxury before either, but since the Perfume was so inexpensive, I figured why not? He even tossed in a handful of perfume samples!
“If I have a basic motivation, it’s to inspire people to make their life a Masterpiece!” Is that not what we do every day at M·A·C? So it is that the Dutch industrial designer – known for everything from his “Happy Hour” Chandelier to his “futuresonic” way with old Delft porcelain, and for co-founding now-iconic design collective Droog AND the amusing, classicism-meets-futurism objects of his own group, Moooi (from the Dutch word for “beauty,” but with an extra “o” for extra-beautiful!) – wandered HERE…It had to be! M·A·C partners with Marcel Wanders – his first foray into the world of cosmetics – and design sophisticates (and people with innate and irreverent tastes) will be bonkers for these limited-edition Lipstick, Lip Gloss, Sheer Mystery Powder, Air of Style Scent Concentrate and his signature brush and clutch creations, not least of all for their arresting packaging – fine collectors’ items all! But also for the rich palette, inspired by 17th Century Flemish painting, and particularly Vermeer’s – “Girl With a Pearl Earring” – and the idea of an artist painting a portrait, and falling in love. “Always, with a sense of love in the product…” he says. Marcel speaks our M·A·C language.
MAC Sheer Mystery Powder is described as “an ultra-fine, super sheer, and very sophisticated pressed powder … “Mysteriously” silky-soft in texture, glides on to give skin a velvety matte, slightly luminous and altogether flawless finish.”
I was staying at Kempinski Hotel, the branch situated next to Emirates Mall when I had some free time, so I decided to take a little stroll around the mall which is when I came across a MAC counter. They had the Marcel Wanders Collection on display. I was intrigued by the Sheer Mystery Powder so I decided to purchase it in the shade Medium Plus which was the darker one out of the 2 shades available (Light, Medium Plus). The compact itself came with a mirror, the powder, and a powder puff. Inside the box (please excuse the ratchet looking box) was also a refill pod. The refill pod contained an extra powder complete with the original etchings, and an extra powder puff. The presentation of the entire product was the epitome of gorgeousness, from the unique compact, to the beautiful etchings on the powder itself, and even the powder puff that came with it! I’ve swatched Medium Plus first unblended, and then blended. Once it’s blended, it gives a nice uniform semi-matte look to the skin. That said, I’m not really a fan of powders and since I don’t wear foundation, and have combination skin, it’s not really necessary but I just couldn’t resist picking this up because it just looked so luxe!
It’s been awhile since I last blogged but I was adjusting to married life, decorating our new place, getting to know my new family and so on but that hasn’t stopped me from trying out new makeup products, reviewing the stuff I already had, and jotting down notes in my lil notebook for future blog posts. Now if only I can find the time (read: motivation) to transfer all that to my blog. First of all, I know I’ve been promising to do a giveaway but to be completely honest, I’m not sure how many people actually read my blog. What if I have a giveaway and nobody enters? That would be so embarrassing which is what’s holding me back. I’ve figured out the solution. Leave a comment below if you want me to have a giveaway but if nobody comments, instead of the winner of the giveaway getting the “prize(s)”, I’ll just give them to a family member or friend. Hope that sounds fair.
