Sultan Center Groceries Haul (Jan 2021)

I was feeling physically weak on and off, all throughout January, but I was having a particularly bad day

So…

I decided to go grocery shopping, as one does.

To be honest, thanks to the lockdown, I had discovered that I quite enjoyed cooking! I actually found it therapeutic. More than that, I enjoyed the fact that the people I cared for enjoyed my cooking, saying I had a knack for it.

Since I needed to get ingredients for certain recipes that I was gonna’ try making later on, not to mention the fact that I’d been wanting to introduce healthier food to the kids (my nieces and nephew lived on chicken nuggs), I figured I might as well hit up Sultan Center.

The Souq Sharq branch was my favorite because I found it quite peaceful (barely any people, most of the time) and I knew where everything was placed by heart. Also, there was always plenty of parking space outside.

First, I hit up the top floor (where all the Cookware/Bakeware used to be), grabbed a few things and made my way back to the ground floor.

Sultan Center Haulage (Souq Sharq) (Sept 2020)

After hitting up Debenhams (here) and Bath & Body Works (here) and The Body Shop (here), I finally made it to Sultan Center.

Between my brother and his wife’s weekly visits to the local co-op, and my online orders from taw9eel.com (My Pantry), we were all set on groceries.

So, this haul was mostly snackage (stuff I couldn’t find online) and personal care stuff (face wash, cotton pads, etc…)

Amazon UK Hair Care Haulage (Summer 2020)

On July 20 2020 I placed an online order on Amazon UK for some Hair Tools and Hair Accessories and even Hair Removal Stuff.

I was swimming in the pool with my family almost daily and cooking pretty much regularly (Chef LuLu Part 4) which meant there was no point in curling or straightening or waving my hair, because I was constantly hopping in an out of the shower.

In fact, I relied pretty heavily on the Garnier Ultra Doux Mythic Olive Extreme Nutrition Oil Replacement (haulage here), which I would work into my hair and let it air-dry, until my next shower.

However, I’d really enjoyed the BaByliss Sensitive Curling Iron (reviewed here) and wondered if I was missing out on any more gems. Not satisfied with the small selection at taw9eel.com (it’s not their specialty) I figured I’d check out Amazon UK and ended up with a few hits and a few misses.

Hair Removal during the Lockdown

It’s not the sexiest of topics, but Hair Removal during the Lockdown was an issue and as such, I feel the need to talk about it now lol

First of all, if you haven’t already, check out my post on Hair Removal (here). I feel like it’s an interesting read, if I do say so myself (I do!) lol

As I said earlier in My Story: Shaving (here) typically I’ll use Gillette Blue II Disposable Razors (reviewed here) in conjunction with Nivea For Men Cool Kick Shaving Foam (reviewed here) to shave my underarms and legs.

As for my bikini area, I prefer to shave it dry (sans shaving foam). For my brows, I used my trusty Tweezerman Tweezers (the ones from Boots were absolute garbage lol). None of those areas were an issue. I could find disposable razors and shaving creams and foams and even tweezers all on taw9eel.com (My Pantry).

The issue was with the upper lip area. Typically, I’d get my upper lip area waxed and then for the invisible tiny hairs, a once over with thread, all at the salon. During the pandemic, there was no salon.

I called up all my friends and family (even the ones abroad) to see how they were handling the situation and not one of them was helpful! lol

Apparently, they were all between sessions of laser hair removal when the pandemic hit, meaning they only had the whiskers on the sides to contend with, which they just shaved off every few days. I was definitely not going to do that (slippery slope with an unknown end).

Some of my more self-sufficient friends had taught themselves how to thread their own face (and even provided me with a How-To Video on YouTube). There wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that I was ever going to learn how to do that (my hand-eye coordination was not up to par).

That’s when I remembered my own post (Hair Removal) and asked my sister-in-law to pick up a box of Wax Strips on her next run to the cooperative (you had to schedule your visit to the supermarket during the lockdown so my sister-in-law and my younger brother were taking turns buying groceries and whatnot for the house).

She couldn’t find Face Strips but did find Body Strips. Aside from the difference in size, I figured they were both effectively the same. So that’s what I used, up until the salons opened back up again!

Carrefour Haul (August)

After Boots (dis) and Bath & Body Works (dis), since I was at the Avenues anyway, I hit up Carrefour for some snackage. Annoyingly, I forgot to include some things in the main photo again, but I did add them below.

Sultan Center Personal Care Haul (July)

I was running low out of my Personal Care favorites and had to replenish my stock. By now, regular readers will know that my “go to” was Sultan Center (Souq Sharq). While there, I snatched up some random snackage, which turned out to be yummy! Unfortunately, I seem to have lost the receipt (meaning no prices will be listed).

Nordstrom Men Sample Pack (June)

Get a Free Gift when you spend $75 on Men’s Grooming or Cologne. $86 Value.

I’d already filled up my online shopping cart at Nordstrom with Hair Care, but then, noticed that they’d added the Men’s Sample Pack (products purely for dudes, because of Father’s Day). The Men’s Sample Pack included a whole bunch of Men’s Fragrance Samples, which naturally I was very, very interested in sniffing since my latest obsession (well, since this past December) was Fragrances. So I added a Perfume/Cologne (Travel Spray) and a couple of Bar Soaps, from the Men’s Grooming and Cologne section, to qualify for the Men’s Sample Pack (for the month of June).

Boots Mini Haul (Salmiya)

After Sultan Center (spotted here) I popped into the Boots store, down the street for a lil looksy. Straight away, I noticed this adorable little Lip Balm!

Since I was going to be standing in line anyway (to pay at the check-out counter) I figured I might as well grab another pair of Tweezers, since my previous pair seem to have disappeared. I couldn’t reach the top rack so I asked the nearest sales assistant (Veiled Egyptian Woman) to give me a hand. She reached for the more expensive (KD 4) pair of Tweezers from the brand The Vintage Cosmetic Company, but I laughed and said “No, the cheaper one, please” (which cost around KD 1 and was by the in-home brand, Boots). I looked away because I was still scoping out the place (it was my first time in that particular branch, ever), but I trusted her.

It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have looked away…

Eyes Lips Face (ELF) Summer Haulage

Since my previous order (haulage here), about 4 months ago, ELF had come out with a bunch of new products (including 4 new Makeup Brushes). At the time of this order, they had a promo which included a Free Plump It Up Gift (3pc) with any $25+ order, in addition to a Free Sample with every purchase. I’d accumulated enough points (you get 50 point just for signing up) to pick out a Free Gift of my choice (from select items). I figured it was worth placing an order right then and taking advantage of all the deals and promos and such. Mostly, I just wanted to give those Makeup Brushes a try!

Generally, I try to stick to a budget of around $100 (otherwise it’d be too easy to go overboard without even realizing it). The subtotal for this order was $100 (minus the $8.87 sales tax), which I felt was close enough to my personal target.

Makeup (Eye Stuff, Lip Stuff, Face Stuff, geddit? ELF lawl)

Tools (Makeup Brushes, Sharpener, Tweezers, Lash Curler, etc…)
