MAC Haul (Jan 2021)

I used to be obsessed with MAC, even way before I started this blog.

I used to follow all their new releases religiously.

Once the latest collection reached the country, I’d hunt down the items I wanted, hitting up several MAC stores back to back.

I’d haul entire collections (almost every single item) at a time!

For the past 5 year or so, my interest in MAC slowly dissipated.

I no longer kept up with their new releases. In fact, there’s currently a countdown on their website to what might possibly be a Stranger Things Collection coming soon and I could not care less.

For the past few years, I’ve rarely even set foot in a MAC store, except on very, very few occasions.

However, my beloved Mineralize Skinfinish in the shade Give Me Sun! had completely run out.

I wanted a fresh one, so I decided to order it online, from the U.S. MAC website.

That came with its own slew of issues but more on those issues at the end of this post.

Now on to the good-good!

Spotted at Sephora (Summer)

I visited Sephora again (seriously, they need to move the store to a more accessible area of the Avenues already, like maybe switch out Sephora with Next so people can access Sephora both from inside and outside the mall for quick drive-bys. I mean their current location is so out of the way from everything else!) and also, because I still didn’t get my Brand Gift (for reaching 200 points) even though I’ve already received the e-mail from the Dubai branch of Sephora. While there, I spotted several new displays (as shown above), new products and new brands!!!!

For starters they had a Mini Mania display (sooo cute!) mostly of cult fave products available in mini-sizes separated into 4 categories (all of which we’ll be taking a much closer look at, below) ranging from Speedy SportSunny BeachTrendy WorkFunky Party.

Spotted at The Body Shop (Summer)

I was at the Avenues when I noticed they had a Sale going on over at The Body Shop. It was around closing time, but I still managed to take some photos and grab a few things. I tried my best to put names and prices to everything. If there are any mistakes, I apologize (let me know in the comments and I’ll fix it). The NEW ITEMS (not included in the Sale) are all the way at the bottom of this post. To my understanding, the Sale usually lasts for an entire month which according to my calculations is August 20. So if anything catches your fancy, you’ve still got a few days to go pick it up. Hope you enjoy this post!

H&M Cosmetics Haul

I went to H&M (Salmiya Branch) again in December because they were having a Buy Two Get One Free deal on cosmetics. I’ve always enjoyed H&M cosmetics because they’ve got a vast array of products and everything is so inexpensive! I’ve purchased so many of their face masks, scented wet-wipes, eyeshadow palettes, colored eyeliners, black liquid liner (which is amazing!), nail polishes, and so much more from them, in the past. In fact, I always used to purchase at least one pink-y lip gloss every single time I visited H&M. However, I stopped purchasing makeup-y bits from them because everything always looks so ratchet (severely picked over) now. Plus, I feel like they bumped up the prices. With that being said, I downloaded the AlShaya Privileges Club Application on my phone (which is supposed to tell me whenever any of the AlShaya Stores such as H&M, Victoria’s Secret, etc… are having some sort of “offer” which normally aren’t even that enticing). That’s how I found out about the Buy Two Get One Free deal on select cosmetics (not all). I wasn’t really in the mood to try anything on in the changing room so I only purchased another one of those stripe-y pajama pants, aside from all the makeup-y bits. Now on to the haulage…

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Sun Power and Medium Deep

I picked up 2 Mineralize Skinfinish Naturals from the MAC website (before this happened) at $32.00 a pop. At first I couldn’t decided on a Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, but since I found the Sheer Mystery Power in Medium Plus from the Marcel Wanders Collection a bit too light on me (for my taste), I decided to go with something darker, and chose Medium Deep. I was also torn between Global Glow (MSF) and Sun Power (MSFN) and almost purchased them both but since these are quite dear, I ended up going with the latter.

MAC Tropical Taboo Collection

M•A•C captures the passion of samba in a shimmering colour collection pulsating with sensuality. Give in to the heat, beat and exotic glamour of shades that define desire. Be seduced by the lure of the Latin beat.

Tropical Taboo was yet another mineralize collection which I couldn’t resist purchasing a whole bunch from, obvi. I got 2 Mineralize Skinfinishes (MSFs), 2 Mineralize Blushes, 3 Mineralize Eyeshadows. Continue reading

MAC Heavenly Creature Collection

Discover a whole new, gorgeous galaxy of supernova shades. On the surface they look marbleized, but on the skin they blend for stunning celestial effects. The M·A·C Heavenly Creature colour collection features 4 Mineralize Skinfinishes and 4 Mineralize Blushes, orbited by 5 Lipsticks and 5 Cremesheen Glass.

Clearly, I cannot resist MAC’s mineralize products. They’re just so unbelievably pretty and they really do look like cute little planets!

Galaxy Rose Cremesheen Glass (mid-tone violet pink) On my lips it’s less pinky and more mauve. Cremesheen Glasses are usually quite sheer with a very subtle yet buildable tint to them and this was no exception. I love the texture of Cremesheen Glasses. They’re so light, and airy, and best of all non-sticky. They kind of remind me of my favorite lipglosses, the discontinued Super Lustrous Lipglosses from Revlon which I’ve reviewed here.

Fire Sign (red pink, lustre finish) I figured this would be a good dupe for the Viva Glam Cyndi Lipstick that I missed out on and I’m thankful to say that it is! Fire Sign is a delightful strawberry red and because it’s a lustre, it applies less opaquely than say an amplified finish lipstick. Normally I’m not a fan of darker colors that have a shine to them but this is glossy enough that it just works. Plus, if I wanted to, I can easily add more to get it to be more opaque. Plus, you know Sagittarius in da’ house, heeeeey!

My little planets. Aren’t they darling? L-R: Center of the Universe Mineralize Skinfinish, Ring of Saturn Mineralize Blush, Supernova Mineralize Blush, Earthly Mineralize Eyeshadow, Magnetic Attraction Mineralize Eyeshadow

Center of the Universe Mineralize Skinfinish (coral with gold shimmer) The first stripe is a swatch of everything swirled together. The second stripe is a swatch of the gold part on the outer edges of the MSF. The last stripe is a swatch of the middle part. Obviously, I’m not going to sit there and apply this with a microscopic brush so the the first stripe is closest to the effect of what I get on my cheeks after swirling my stippling brush (which sheers it out even more) in it. The end result is a sweet, shimmery coral orange which I love! Again, if you want a more pigmented look, just wet your brush and dip it in there as even these MSFs can be used both wet and dry.

Ring of Saturn Mineralize Blush (terracotta and gold melange, frost finish) I managed to swatch the gold part on my pinky but unfortunately I couldn’t quite manage to get a clean swipe of the terracotta on my ring finger without picking up some of the gold (as you can tell from the photo). The first swatch is of the terracotta mixed in with the gold which is why I didn’t do a separate swatch of everything mixed together. It’s a gorgeous peachy pink with gold shimmer, which in my eyes is a darker, more pigmented version of Orgasm Blush by Nars. The second swatch, right next to it, is the gold part which is actually a pink which flashes gold. Even though it’s a beautiful duochrome, it’s also quite powdery with lots of fall-out. I know it might not look it from the swatches, but on me, it looks exactly like Deep Throat Blush from Nars.

Supernova Mineralize Blush (magenta and burnished gold, frost finish) The magenta shows up nicely, on my finger, in the swatch, on my cheeks. The “burnished gold” on the other hand, shows up as a tan on my finger, a peach in the swatch, and a coral on my cheeks. After swirling my stippling brush in Supernova, it applies as a straight up magenta with a slight sheen. In hindsight, it’s too similar to Her Blooming Cheek Blush from MAC (which I’ve reviewed here) for me to own both, especially since hot pinks, magentas, and fuchsias are not my thing. The first swatch is of the magenta part. The next swatch is the burnished gold part. Again, the burnished gold part is powdery and there was a lot of fall-out. Directly below them, I’ve swatched the magenta and burnished gold together light-handedly.

Here they are swatched side by side L-R: Supernova Blush, Ring of Saturn Blush, Center of the Universe MSF Supernova is a sheen-y magenta, Ring of Saturn is a gorgeous duochrome-y peachy pink, and Center of the Universe is a frosty golden orange.

Magnetic Attraction Mineralize Eyeshadow (Orange, pink, gold melange) With these mineralize eyeshadows, it’s easier to pick and choose which colors you want to be more dominant, by using a smaller eyeshadow brush but oh my ‘lanta! This really is a beaut! Does it not remind you of a sunset? I’m talking strictly color-wise. I attempted to swatch the swirls seperately but that wasn’t happening (fat finger syndrome) so that’s why in the first photo you can see the yellow swatched in the center of all that copper. They just look so pretty together!

Earthly Mineralize Eyeshadow (beige, peach, cool brown melange) In the swatches, this looks like one of those gorgeous glow-y neutrals which as you all should know by now, is my favorite! I truly was expecting a sandy tan. Continue reading to find out what it looks like…

L-R Magnetic Attraction Eyeshadow, Earthly Eyeshadow The first shot is a closeup of both of them so you can see how beautifully shimmery they are. Magnetic Attraction is a cute peachy pink whereas Earthly is a gorgeous taupe-y lilac with multi-colored shimmer. I believe I can even use Magnetic Attraction as a blush, if I felt so inclined. F.Y.I. On most people, Magnetic Attraction is copper and Earthly is brown. Like I said before, the overall outcome depends on the veining you get and which veins/swirls/stripes you swipe your brush through. Again, these can be used dry (as I’ve swatched them) or wet (for deeper pigmentation).

Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator. Yes, I did actually haul 3 because I can never find these and I’m obsessed with exfoliation products. I’ve reviewed this in the previews post (here).

MAC Naturally Collection

Hey, Nature Girl! For a look that is simple, sensuous and understatedly sexy, here are nothing-to-hide hues that make you look fresh, relaxed, gloriously “undone.” Brilliantly sheer, high-mineral Skinfinish make your look fresh-as-the-sun radiant. Lipsticks and Lipglass lushly tinted to reflect the wholesome. Eye Pencils with a touch of jojoba, mango and meadowfoam seed oils. M·A·C, Naturally is just what you need to do your own thing and keep your look, dreamily, down to earth…

As I said before, I love MAC’s Mineralize Collections but I was looking forward to this collection especially. There’s just something so appealing about the shades and their names, even the name of the collection itself, “Naturally”. The beautiful imagery is quite nice as well.

I picked up 2 MSFs, Redhead and Blonde. I didn’t manage to get them when they were first released several years ago because as I said before, I used to be intimidated by MSFs.

Here are some swatches of both MSFs side by side (Redhead is on top, Blonde is at the bottom.) The last few photos are of both MSFs blended out (Redhead left, Blonde right). As you can see from the photos of them blended out, they are beautiful sheen-y highlighters. It helps if you’ve got naturally beautiful skin otherwise this will basically highlight your imperfections.

I also purchased Summer Haze Mineralize Eyeshadow (palest gold with deeper gold veining). Left swatched dry, Right swatched wet. Summer Haze gives me that barely there, glow-y nude look, on the eyes. I love it!

MAC Semi-Precious Collection

We can all admire a girl with a 30-carat diamond. But the new dazzle is Semi-Precious. Gems that are rare in spirit, rich in substance and worn fluidly, on the skin. In MAC Semi-Precious, four finely milled gems – bronzite, black tourmaline, gold pyriate, and lilac lepidolite – bring their own earthy an spiritual affluence to three key elements of the mineralize collection: eyeshadows, skinfinish, and blush. Setting them off: a collection of colour, two mineralize skincare formulas, and four new limited-life split fibre brushes. Like everything this precious, these elements start off rare, and tend to get rarer… get rich while you can!

MAC In the Groove Collection

In the Groove was a pretty big collection which included 6 Lipsticks, 6 Lipglosses, 9 Eyeshadows, 4 MSFs, and 5 blushes, not counting the other permanent stuff like the eyeliners and mascara. Althought the items I picked up were Limited Edition, I’m reviewing them just in case MAC re-releases them (as they are wont to do). Some of them have actually been re-released already.
