Boots Hair Care Haul (August)

– Umberto Giannini “Mermaid Hair” Volume Mousse
– Soap&Glory “Junk The Gunk” Deep Cleansing Shampoo
– Umberto Giannini “Beach Care” Coconut Oil Conditioner
– Umberto Giannini “Pool Proof” Leave-In Hair Protection Cream
– Soap&Glory “Control Sleek” Heat-Activated Smoothing Cream
– Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Express Blow Dry Primer

Boots (Avenues) had a “Buy 3, Get 3 Free” promo going on, around the beginning of August. Since my latest obsession seems to be Hair Care, I decided to take advantage of that opportunity and snag some things from the newBeach Collection” from Umberto Giannini. I also got some stuff from the all new Hair Care Range from Soap&Glory and just the one thing from Charles Worthington.

I didn’t do any “research” beforehand and just grabbed stuff based on the cutesy packaging and fun names, and what they claimed to do. As such, I found some of them kinda’ disappointing. That said, I’m not about to open up all of them in one go (not that crazy) so I’ve only gotten around to using 3 out of the 6, for now.

Nordstrom Mix Haul (June)

Even though I’d already ordered from Nordstrom at the start of June (dis), I placed another order at the end of June, mainly because I wanted a second Hair Care Sample Pack (dis) which happened to still be available (at the time). After this order though, I think I’m gonna’ cool it with Nordstrom (for a bit). It’s just too hot to be ordering stuff online.

Anyways, I got something from Alterna and two more somethings from Bumble and Bumble. Other than the Hair Care Sample Pack there was an Alterna Gift With Purchase and Bumble and Bumble Gift With Purchase which included deluxe samples from each brand! Yaaay!

I also got some more Bar Soaps and Candles to qualify for the Fragrance Sample Pack (dis). I was actually interested in purchasing Mojave Ghost from Byredo and Philosykos from Diptyque as Perfumes, but it was way too hot to risk (the heat might alter the contents and therefore the scent). So, I got them as Bar Soaps instead. Plus, this way, I could “test” the scents first, rather than buying them as Perfumes and possibly ending up hating them.

The Makeup stuff was from Benefit and I only got them because I really, really had my heart set on the Benefit Gift With Purchase that came with a very, very cute Benefit Clear Tote Bag and some samples. Also, it helped bump up the total of my order so I could qualify for the latest Sample Pack (dis).

AL-Nasaem (Salmiya)

One number to rule them all

I refuse to believe that this sad little building with all its janky-lookin’ stores is the one all those people have been referencing for all those years.

It’s a miracle the place is still standing upright! Inside, the entire complex smelled like some sort of extremely pungent ethnic dish, maybe curry (ironic really, for a place meant to be dedicated to Hair Care). Everything was dusty! Most of the stuff looked very suspicious including the products (a huge 35.2 fl oz tub of Banana Conditioning Hair Mask by the brand Kanechom for only 500 fils? No, thanks! Probably give you cancer or summat) and tools (over-priced Made in China Curling Wand knock-offs that’ll probably singe your hair). The products that looked “legit” (from already well established brands) looked they’d been “lightly used” already and were either sticky or gunky! The Hair Extensions (I saw these girls paying several hundies, in Kuwaiti Dinars, for them) looked pretty ratchet as well. I believe the top floor had one or two Hair Salons (facing each other). As opposed to stairs, to get to the top floor, there was a ramp… Basically, Al-Zaamil (formerly known as Al-Lathayna) was a mess of a building.

I could wrap my head around all that. What I struggled with, was why did they have no less than five (yes, 5) Al Nasaem stores, not only all in the same building, but actually wall-to-wall (one was on the top floor, but the rest were on the ground floor) with each other? After entering the millionth store and realizing the entire place was store after store… that sold the exact same products, I asked the sales assistant and she calmly explained “Oh, all of these stores are part of Al Nasaem“.

That’s just… so stupid.

Matrix Total Results Brass Off Conditioner and L’Oreal Hollywood Waves Siren Waves Cream

That said, that didn’t stop me from purchasing these two lol

Spotted at Bath & Body Works (Mermaid Approved Sea-Tox Collection)

Here’s an in-depth look at all the products in the Mermaid Approved Sea-Tox Collection! As I mentioned earlier (here), they had a promo going on and despite the sticker price, all full-size items were on sale for only KD 2/750 which was a total steal! I’ll try to go over them in the same order shown.

First of all, the idea of a Mermaid-themed Collection from Bath & Body Works (of all places) is everything! None of the products look nor smell nor feel too young (read: juvenile). Unlike the usual rainbow vomit take on mermaid-inspired collections (like Tarte Cosmetics for example) which honestly is a total eyesore, Bath & Body Works did a really good job on the packaging! Everything is appropriately either seaweed-green or seafoam-green or peachy-pink. I especially adore the Japanese Wave Print (which seems to resemble the Japanese Print called The Great Wave of Kanagawa)! Also, the mermaid on the packaging is so stinkin’ cute (like something out of an old-school JRPG)!

Even the travel-size versions of these products (all the way at the bottom) have cute (if a bit cliche) mermaid-related quips! I’ve actually picked up a purple top from New Look (I wanna’ say around 2-3 years ago) that says “Mermaid hair, don’t care” and my sister-in-law recently got me a baby blue top that says “Mermaid in Training” (as a gift from one of her trips abroad with my brother) which proves that I’m quite partial to mermaid-related paraphernalia to begin with.

The feature ingredient of the Sea-Tox Collection (sea-tox like detox, I see you, fam, I see you) is Seaweed and I am living for it! I’ve mentioned this before on my blog, but I’m obsessed with all things Seaweed, so a Mermaid Collection showcasing Seaweed as the feature ingredient is deliciously appropriate! Also, you can’t very well have a Mermaid Collection without including some Hair Care products (So. Much. Yes!) and the Sea-Tox Collection not only has one but two of those, one of them being a legit Sea Salt Hair Spray (I die)! Lastly, I love the fact that the directions include “Mermaid Tips” (which are effectively useless lol but such a cute touch, just the same)! Honestly, the entire Sea-Tox Collection was stupid cute!

The scent on all the products in the Sea-Tox Collection was a pleasant, zesty, unisex (leaning more towards masculine) scent (which was extremely light and subtle, by the way), that had underlying citrusy-green notes (I almost wanna’ say lemon leaf), kinda’ like a Mojito (non-alcoholic, of course)! I’m pretty sure that I’ve smelled this particular scent before (possibly from the For Men range), but I just can’t quite place it at the moment. In any case, it’s perfect for Summers in Kuwait! Even though Bath & Body Works love making stuff up for their descriptions, I’ll leave you with their official description.

A mermaid-approved blend of soft sea breeze, salty ocean waves & crisp aquatic florals

Hair Care Empties and Declutter

After 4 years of moving in, I figure it’s finally time to start unpacking and making myself at home… at home lol I’ve got a pretty spacious apartment, but most of is being taken up by boxes. It’s high time I start unpacking those boxes, keeping what I wanna’ keep, donating what I don’t wanna’ keep and trashing whatever needs to be trashed. A lot of is just clothes that don’t fit me anymore (since I lost a bit of weight), while the rest is just random stuff that I no longer feel the need to own. As I unpack the boxes, you’ll see a lot of these “Empties” and “Decluttering” posts… maybe.

Starting with some Hair Care stuff, I’m going to be trashing all of these, because unfortunately at this point they’ve all pretty much expired. In fact, they’re so old that most of them have been discontinued.

I ♥ Garnier

SAM_0604

I love Garnier! I’ve loved their products for years and years. Their hair care products smell great, perform great, and my wavy/curly hair seems to love them. I always get excited when they come out with a new product or a new line of products or even just revamp their old packaging. Every once in awhile, they’ll come out with a dud (for example, the Sleek & Shine Blow Dry Perfector which just did not work for me at all) but the performance of the rest of the products is usually stellar.

For reference, my hair in its natural state is both wavy and curly, extremely soft to the touch, with a decent amount of volume. If anything, my hair is on the dry side (doesn’t get oily) and can look quite dull (no shininess). It’s also very prone to frizz and tangles. If I brush my hair, my hair frizzes up and the curls lose their shape resulting in the dreaded triangle hair. If I don’t brush my hair, I get tangles (at the back of my neck, above my nape) which are extremely painful to detangle, especially while dry. Lastly, I’ve been regularly getting my hair dyed blonde ever since I was about 17.
