After hitting up Debenhams (here) and Bath & Body Works (here) and The Body Shop (here), I finally made it to Sultan Center.
Between my brother and his wife’s weekly visits to the local co-op, and my online orders from taw9eel.com (My Pantry), we were all set on groceries.
So, this haul was mostly snackage (stuff I couldn’t find online) and personal care stuff (face wash, cotton pads, etc…)
On July 20 2020 I placed an online order on Amazon UK for some Hair Tools and Hair Accessories and even Hair Removal Stuff.
I was swimming in the pool with my family almost daily and cooking pretty much regularly (Chef LuLu Part 4) which meant there was no point in curling or straightening or waving my hair, because I was constantly hopping in an out of the shower.
In fact, I relied pretty heavily on the Garnier Ultra Doux Mythic Olive Extreme Nutrition Oil Replacement (haulage here), which I would work into my hair and let it air-dry, until my next shower.
However, I’d really enjoyed the BaByliss Sensitive Curling Iron (reviewed here) and wondered if I was missing out on any more gems. Not satisfied with the small selection at taw9eel.com (it’s not their specialty) I figured I’d check out Amazon UK and ended up with a few hits and a few misses.
During the lockdown, I was pretty much swimming on the daily and consequentially sharing my Shampoo with friends and family. Naturally, I was starting to run low on Shampoo and it was starting to worry me.
I wasn’t certain how long the online stores would remain open during the lockdown (thinking they could all shut down at any moment).
So, I stocked up on not only Shampoo but Conditioner and Oil Replacement and even Hair Serums.
Did I overdo it? Possibly, but then again, we were in the midst of a pandemic.
On February 7th 2020, I placed an order with Nordstrom for some Hair Care and Perfumes.
It might look like a lot, but I actually purchased only x8 items (x3 full-size hair care items – x3 travel-size hair care items – x2 travel-size perfumes) and the rest were all gifts with purchase (deluxe samples).
The total was $336 (tack on an additional $30 for tax) which was around KD 111, not including Aramex shipping fees.
I didn’t know it at the time, but this was going to be my last online order for a good long while.
– Umberto Giannini “Mermaid Hair” Volume Mousse
– Soap&Glory “Junk The Gunk” Deep Cleansing Shampoo
– Umberto Giannini “Beach Care” Coconut Oil Conditioner
– Umberto Giannini “Pool Proof” Leave-In Hair Protection Cream
– Soap&Glory “Control Sleek” Heat-Activated Smoothing Cream
– Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Express Blow Dry Primer
Boots (Avenues) had a “Buy 3, Get 3 Free” promo going on, around the beginning of August. Since my latest obsession seems to be Hair Care, I decided to take advantage of that opportunity and snag some things from the new “Beach Collection” from Umberto Giannini. I also got some stuff from the all new Hair Care Range from Soap&Glory and just the one thing from Charles Worthington.
I didn’t do any “research” beforehand and just grabbed stuff based on the cutesy packaging and fun names, and what they claimed to do. As such, I found some of them kinda’ disappointing. That said, I’m not about to open up all of them in one go (not that crazy) so I’ve only gotten around to using 3 out of the 6, for now.
Even though I’d already ordered from Nordstrom at the start of June (dis), I placed another order at the end of June, mainly because I wanted a second Hair Care Sample Pack (dis) which happened to still be available (at the time). After this order though, I think I’m gonna’ cool it with Nordstrom (for a bit). It’s just too hot to be ordering stuff online.
Anyways, I got something from Alterna and two more somethings from Bumble and Bumble. Other than the Hair Care Sample Pack there was an Alterna Gift With Purchase and Bumble and Bumble Gift With Purchase which included deluxe samples from each brand! Yaaay!
I also got some more Bar Soaps and Candles to qualify for the Fragrance Sample Pack (dis). I was actually interested in purchasing Mojave Ghost from Byredo and Philosykos from Diptyque as Perfumes, but it was way too hot to risk (the heat might alter the contents and therefore the scent). So, I got them as Bar Soaps instead. Plus, this way, I could “test” the scents first, rather than buying them as Perfumes and possibly ending up hating them.
The Makeup stuff was from Benefit and I only got them because I really, really had my heart set on the Benefit Gift With Purchase that came with a very, very cute Benefit Clear Tote Bag and some samples. Also, it helped bump up the total of my order so I could qualify for the latest Sample Pack (dis).

So. Much. Yes.
For whatever reason, I’ve never even glanced at the Hair Care section on the Nordstrom website, up until the weather became too hot to order Perfume and Makeup. That said, I’ve always lusted after the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray (possibly for decades), but just never knew how to get my hands on that stuff. I found it, along with a whole bunch of other interesting Hair Care products over at Nordstrom. The more I browsed, the more stuff I lusted after! Hair Care was quickly shaping up to be my newest obsession!
Other than Bumble and Bumble, they also had DevaCurl (another “Curly Girl Method” approved brand) and Living Proof and Drybar and R+Co (hella’ cute packaging!) and Oribe (the one everyone seem to lose their minds over) and Alterna and so much more! I kinda’ wanted… everything! To be fair though, I’d gotten gotten samples from most of those brands at one point or another (mostly from Nordstrom), but Hair Care hadn’t really been on my radar, at that point in time. However, once they came out with this Hair Care Sample Pack for the month of June, with the pre-requisite of purchasing $85 worth of Hair Care to qualify, I jumped on that deal! It was kismet!
The Sample Pack contained several Hair Care samples of stuff that I actually wanted to try! In fact, the full sizes of many of those samples were already in my online shopping cart, including the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray! Now that I could try out the samples first, I quickly deleted the fuller sizes from my shopping cart. Honestly, the Hair Care Sample Pack could not have come at a better time! Again, I just love Nordstrom!
Unfortunately, once again, something had leaked all over everything while in-transit, but that’s okay because… Hair Care Samples, yaaaay!
I accidentally spent KD 75 (almost $250) at Saveco! lol
I was out with the kids again and the youngest was misbehaving. I was already dead tired, but I’ve kinda’ made it a point to dole out swift, if not immediate punishment, when it comes to the kids (so they remember). As such, I dropped her off at home and went right back outside, taking the other two along with me. The youngest was visibly upset at being left out, as intended.
Anywho, I’ve been meaning to get the older two started on wearing antiperspirant/deodorant regularly. They participate in all sorts of water-related activities at Summer Camp, from “Swimming Day” to “Foam Football” (Soccer for the Americans) to regular “Sports Day” all of which involved them showering afterwards over there, and then I get them to shower again back at home, before bed (well, except the eldest, who only washes her body regularly, but her hair every other day, because I don’t think her hair can handle daily washing). Despite the constant showers, the kids can smell a bit… ripe. Also, it’s shaping up to be an exceptionally hot Summer in Kuwait.
So I took them to Sultan Center (Salmiya) where they each got to pick out their own Deodorant. We also stocked up on some snackage (some healthy, but mostly not) and on our way back home, despite being way past their bedtime, decided to made a quick stop at the McDonald’s Drive-Thru on Gulf Road and treat each of them to an Oreo McFlurry (knowing full well that they were going to go back and gloat about it to their younger sister). It was around 2:30am at this point, and yet the beach was packed with families just hanging out! Even the McDonald’s Kiddie Playground (outside) was crowded with kids (of all ages) running around, as happy as you please.
Back home, the youngest was so upset at being left out (most definitely imagining that her brother and sister were out having all kinds of fun, while she was stuck at home) that she chose to stay up and wait for us. As soon as we walked in with bags of
groceries snackage, her eyes widened like saucers and she proceeded to grill her siblings about where they’d gone, what they’d done, etc… The eldest did not miss this opportunity to answer with great relish. It’s been weeks, but the youngest hasn’t misbehaved since!
