Boots Hair Care Haul (August)

– Umberto Giannini “Mermaid Hair” Volume Mousse
– Soap&Glory “Junk The Gunk” Deep Cleansing Shampoo
– Umberto Giannini “Beach Care” Coconut Oil Conditioner
– Umberto Giannini “Pool Proof” Leave-In Hair Protection Cream
– Soap&Glory “Control Sleek” Heat-Activated Smoothing Cream
– Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Express Blow Dry Primer

Boots (Avenues) had a “Buy 3, Get 3 Free” promo going on, around the beginning of August. Since my latest obsession seems to be Hair Care, I decided to take advantage of that opportunity and snag some things from the newBeach Collection” from Umberto Giannini. I also got some stuff from the all new Hair Care Range from Soap&Glory and just the one thing from Charles Worthington.

I didn’t do any “research” beforehand and just grabbed stuff based on the cutesy packaging and fun names, and what they claimed to do. As such, I found some of them kinda’ disappointing. That said, I’m not about to open up all of them in one go (not that crazy) so I’ve only gotten around to using 3 out of the 6, for now.

Nordstrom Mix Haul (June)

Even though I’d already ordered from Nordstrom at the start of June (dis), I placed another order at the end of June, mainly because I wanted a second Hair Care Sample Pack (dis) which happened to still be available (at the time). After this order though, I think I’m gonna’ cool it with Nordstrom (for a bit). It’s just too hot to be ordering stuff online.

Anyways, I got something from Alterna and two more somethings from Bumble and Bumble. Other than the Hair Care Sample Pack there was an Alterna Gift With Purchase and Bumble and Bumble Gift With Purchase which included deluxe samples from each brand! Yaaay!

I also got some more Bar Soaps and Candles to qualify for the Fragrance Sample Pack (dis). I was actually interested in purchasing Mojave Ghost from Byredo and Philosykos from Diptyque as Perfumes, but it was way too hot to risk (the heat might alter the contents and therefore the scent). So, I got them as Bar Soaps instead. Plus, this way, I could “test” the scents first, rather than buying them as Perfumes and possibly ending up hating them.

The Makeup stuff was from Benefit and I only got them because I really, really had my heart set on the Benefit Gift With Purchase that came with a very, very cute Benefit Clear Tote Bag and some samples. Also, it helped bump up the total of my order so I could qualify for the latest Sample Pack (dis).

Nordstrom Hair Care Sample Pack (June)

Get a Free Gift with your $85 Hair Care purchase. Find your next Hair Care favorites with samples from Drybar, slip for beauty sleep, Briogeo and more. $87 Value.

So. Much. Yes.

For whatever reason, I’ve never even glanced at the Hair Care section on the Nordstrom website, up until the weather became too hot to order Perfume and Makeup. That said, I’ve always lusted after the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray (possibly for decades), but just never knew how to get my hands on that stuff. I found it, along with a whole bunch of other interesting Hair Care products over at Nordstrom. The more I browsed, the more stuff I lusted after! Hair Care was quickly shaping up to be my newest obsession!

Other than Bumble and Bumble, they also had DevaCurl (another “Curly Girl Method” approved brand) and Living Proof and Drybar and R+Co (hella’ cute packaging!) and Oribe (the one everyone seem to lose their minds over) and Alterna and so much more! I kinda’ wanted… everything! To be fair though, I’d gotten gotten samples from most of those brands at one point or another (mostly from Nordstrom), but Hair Care hadn’t really been on my radar, at that point in time. However, once they came out with this Hair Care Sample Pack for the month of June, with the pre-requisite of purchasing $85 worth of Hair Care to qualify, I jumped on that deal! It was kismet!

The Sample Pack contained several Hair Care samples of stuff that I actually wanted to try! In fact, the full sizes of many of those samples were already in my online shopping cart, including the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray! Now that I could try out the samples first, I quickly deleted the fuller sizes from my shopping cart. Honestly, the Hair Care Sample Pack could not have come at a better time! Again, I just love Nordstrom!

Unfortunately, once again, something had leaked all over everything while in-transit, but that’s okay because… Hair Care Samples, yaaaay!

AL-Nasaem (Salmiya)

One number to rule them all

I refuse to believe that this sad little building with all its janky-lookin’ stores is the one all those people have been referencing for all those years.

It’s a miracle the place is still standing upright! Inside, the entire complex smelled like some sort of extremely pungent ethnic dish, maybe curry (ironic really, for a place meant to be dedicated to Hair Care). Everything was dusty! Most of the stuff looked very suspicious including the products (a huge 35.2 fl oz tub of Banana Conditioning Hair Mask by the brand Kanechom for only 500 fils? No, thanks! Probably give you cancer or summat) and tools (over-priced Made in China Curling Wand knock-offs that’ll probably singe your hair). The products that looked “legit” (from already well established brands) looked they’d been “lightly used” already and were either sticky or gunky! The Hair Extensions (I saw these girls paying several hundies, in Kuwaiti Dinars, for them) looked pretty ratchet as well. I believe the top floor had one or two Hair Salons (facing each other). As opposed to stairs, to get to the top floor, there was a ramp… Basically, Al-Zaamil (formerly known as Al-Lathayna) was a mess of a building.

I could wrap my head around all that. What I struggled with, was why did they have no less than five (yes, 5) Al Nasaem stores, not only all in the same building, but actually wall-to-wall (one was on the top floor, but the rest were on the ground floor) with each other? After entering the millionth store and realizing the entire place was store after store… that sold the exact same products, I asked the sales assistant and she calmly explained “Oh, all of these stores are part of Al Nasaem“.

That’s just… so stupid.

Matrix Total Results Brass Off Conditioner and L’Oreal Hollywood Waves Siren Waves Cream

That said, that didn’t stop me from purchasing these two lol

Side… Braid

Hair Tie: Blue Stars (from local equivalent of the dollar store)
Sunglasses: Louis Vuitton Aviators (to “hide” my identity… and all my deep dark secrets)
Top: Express Maroon/Navy Camo Shirt (before the Avenues branch of Express closed down)

So, other than straightening my hair (using my trusty National Hot Air Brush) and then curling the ends (using my Rodeo Drive Beauty Curling Wand), I’ve taken to adding a mini side-braid.

I say I, but what I really mean is our housekeeper (who hails from the Philippines) or my 12 year old niece (who is somehow, better at braiding hair than I am, because I’m pretty much hopeless when it comes to anything hair related).

I don’t clip it back or tie it up or whatever. I will however wrap the the ends of the braid around my curling iron, so it blends in with the rest of my already curled hair, but that’s pretty much it. I just sorta’ let it do its thing.

The main issue I seem to face is finding Hair Ties that are small enough to wrap around the smaller braid, because even the teeny-tiny Blue Stars Hair Tie that I’m wearing (“borrowed” from my niece) had to be wrapped around my hair multiple times. I distinctly remember purchasing a tin or two, of those mini Hair Ties (in Clear and Black) at some point, but they’re nowhere to be found and I don’t even remember where I bought them from. I’d totally use rubber bands instead, except those are pretty painful to remove.

That said, a mini side-braid (which is about as “intricate” as my hairstyles get) is extremely low maintenance. You just braid your hair (or in my case, get someone more competent to braid it) and then forget about it! As opposed to certain hairstyles that fall apart as soon as you so much as blink at them, this thing is totally touchable, and even swimmable and roughhouse-able too!

Also, depending on how I accessorize it, I feel like it can be pretty versatile! Paired with Denim/Leather (during Winter obvi.) and it’s grungy! Pop on some Feathers or Seashells, instant Bohemian Vibe! Worn to the beach/pool with a Swimsuit/Bikini, it’s fun and playful! Paired with a Skirt/Dress, it’s frou-frou (blech) and girly. Peeking out of a Baseball Cap paired with matching Trainers, it’s sporty! Worn with casual business attire, it’s unexpected (maybe?) and cool (deffo’)!

That’s why I’ve really been enjoying sporting a mini side-braid!
