(Photo nicked off the Mishref Fair Grounds Website).
I try to make it a point to visit the Perfume & Makeup Exhibition at least once a year. The Perfume & Cosmetics Exhibition takes place twice a year (March and then again in Oct-Nov) in Hall 5 and Hall 6 and Hall 8 at Mishref Fair Grounds. As you can see, the Halls are huge! They’ve always got something or other going on there (sometimes simultaneously), year-round! This year, I noticed that they had strung up pretty fairy lights and arranged a seating area somewhere outside, with a ton of trendy pop-ups in cute little shacks that were catering the event, on either side of the seating area! I actually took a handful of pics, but people’s faces were on full display so I can’t show ’em (privacy blah blah blah consent blah blah blah).
Unfortunately, the majority of the halls participating in the Perfume & Cosmetics Exhibition mainly feature Oud and Teeb (Arab Fragrances), with only a smaller portion of booths featuring “French Perfumes” and an even smaller portion featuring Makeup. Heck, one of the Halls (I wanna’ say Hall 7) was reserved solely and entirely for Boutiqaat (at one point, I saw a tumbleweed roll by).
I’ve been going to the Perfume & Makeup Exhibition for
years decades! In fact, even before I used to go there, my mom would get me a Lancome Mascara Gift Set when I was a teen (drugstore brands weren’t as readily available in Kuwait back then). Even just 8 years back, Victoria’s Secret used to participate (here) as did Sephora (here). It’s also where I first spotted China Glaze (here) and Lush (here). Now, it’s so very different (not in a good way) from what it once was…
On the last day of the Perfume & Makeup Exhibition (Mishref Fair Grounds during October-November 2016) I came across the Bioderma booth. I hate Bioderma Micellar Water (story below) but I figure it’s been 5 years since my horrible experience, so why not let bygones be bygones? They had several good deals on a lot of their stuff. I’ve always loved a good facial mist (my first was from Evian back in 2000) so the Hydrabio Moisturizing anti-UV Water Mist caught my attention straight away. I mean… it hydrates your skin, protects your skin from UV rays, feels refreshing (a must in Kuwait) and sets your makeup! Basically, this stuff is perfect for summer! They were having some sort of deal where if you bought 2 cans you’d get a discount as opposed to buying just 1 can and paying full price for it. They kept trying to push products on me but I straight up told them that I absolutely hate Bioderma and was only willing to mend fences just recently (literally when I laied eyes on the Hydrabio Mist lawl). I figure since I was going to be stuck in line waiting to pay for my purchase anyway, might as well get something else from the brand. It was a spur of the moment thing, but I snagged a pack of Sensibio H2O Wipes because I like cleansing wipes, in general. It didn’t even occur to me (until I got back home) that these were red… and the Bioderma Micellar Water (that I’d used in the past) was red… so they were from the same line (red packaging)… and these wipes were soaked in that very same useless Micellar Water that I’d had a horrible experience with in the past. At the very least, they tossed in a whole bunch of samples (since it was the last day of Beautycon … or at least the Kuwaiti version of it), which is always fun! Here’s hoping it all works out… I’m going to be “cautiously optimistic”!
