Out of all the grocery stores in Kuwait, my favorite was The Sultan Center!
The Soug Sharg/Souq Sharq branch, to be more exact.
I knew the layout by heart.
I’d walk in, wheeling my shopping cart through the fresh produce aisle at the entrance, making a mental note of all the things I’d circle back for (mainly those lil apples).
Usually, I’d place the frozen stuff and fresh produce stuff in my shopping cart last, so they wouldn’t melt or defrost or wilt or spoil or whatever.
I’d skip the organic stuff aisle (eww healthy stuff) up until I got to the personal care aisle and snag some makeup remover, cotton pads, face wash, etc… The other side would have shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, facing each other.
I’d skip the cleaning supplies aisle up until I got to the cooking stuff aisle (sauces and other condiments). I’d grab a few tins of baked beans or a box of pasta or whatever else I was craving. Then move on on to the next aisle and fill up my cart accordingly.
Eventually, I’d make it to the cookies and biscuits aisle which would be facing the chocolates aisle and on the other side, the candy aisle facing the potato chips aisle.
I’d check for my beloved Coco Mojo in the unrefrigerated drinks section before hitting up the refrigerated section (all the way towards the end) where I’d grab some bacon, smoked turkey, fruit yogurt, etc… and work my way back to the fresh produce aisle (walking freezer-side to keep an eye out for ice-cream or frozen pizza that looked particularly yummy).
Finally, I’d circle back to the fresh produce aisle, pick up some grapes or apples or whatever my latest recipe called for, and head towards the checkout counter.
Sadly, that’s all out the window because they renovated the place and the entire layout is completely different now!
The frozen section is right across the fresh produce section (which is convenient tbh) but I don’t like the rest of the layout :(
I noticed the renovations starting around April but before that, I hit up Sultan Center in January.
KitKat Coconut (repurchase)
Skittles / Skittles Smoothies (repurchase)
Starburst Strawberry Bubble Gum – love the original Starburst (here) figured I’d try the Gum
Wrigley’s Double Mint Chewing Gum (repurchase)
I picked up some chocolate, candy and gum, all of which were repurchases.
I’ve enjoyed KitKat Coconut ever since my cousin first introduced me to them (here). You get a nice hit of chocolate and coconut! The aftertaste can be off-putting to some, but I quite like it! It’s not nearly as rich as Bounty.
Skittles is a forever favorite (its own post and everything)!
I picked up some Gum because I’d quit smoking and it helped stave off any cravings (dis). Starburst Strawberry Bubble Gum was forgettable but the Wrigley’s Double Mint Chewing Gum was another forever favorite and a classic!
Caotina Swiss Chocolate Drink
Since I’d quite caffeine, I was always on the look-out for Hot Drink alternatives.
Ghirardelli Hot Cocoa Mix
I tend to enjoy Hot Cocoa, particularly when it’s raining outside. However, not all cocoa mixes are created equally. Some are far superior to others, hence the need to try them all.
Kellogg’s Hershey’s Vanilla Cream ChocoBits
Sooo unhealthy but sooo yummy! In fact, I’d have this stuff not only for “breakfast” but also as an evening snack lol
It was kinda’ like having Oreos in the form of a cereal (complete with the vanilla cream inside) and it made the milk taste like chocolate milk! In fact, it tasted more like Oreo Cereal than actual Oreo Cereal lol
Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut
Not sure when or why, but I started craving honey-flavored Cereal (any brand) all the time!
My go-to was Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut (as shown) and Kellogg’s Honey & Nuts (My Pantry Post) both of which were increasingly difficult to find (always out of stock) during the lockdown.
Love this stuff!
Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinner
This stuff was not good. I preferred the Mac & Cheese that I make (from scratch).
Knorr Napoletana Pasta Sauce (for spaghetti)
Knorr Basilico Pasta Sauce (for spaghetti)
Dolly’s Mushroom Pasta Sauce (for pizza)
I grabbed some Sauces for home-made Spaghetti and home-made Pizza.
As you can see, I couldn’t wait to try out the Napoletana Sauce.
I also picked up some Salsa to go with the Nachos.
Old El Paso is a long-time fave!
The Hot is too spicy (legit hurts my mouth) while the Mild has no spiciness (too bland) but the Medium is perfection (has a nice kick to it)!
Heinz Spaghetti Hoops (repurchase)
I dunno’ what it is with me and canned food but clearly I just love my preservatives lol
Just heat this stuff in the microwave along with some pita bread for dipping and you’ve got a super quick and easy meal.
Colman’s Cottage Pie Mix (repurchase)
Cottage Pie was one of the first dishes I learned to make when the lockdown first started and it’s all thanks to Colman’s Cottage Pie Mix!
It takes a bit of prepping but the end result is deelish! You can see the pictures for yourself (here, just scroll down to April 30).
Knorr Herb & Butter Rice Sides
I’ve tried the Knorr Parmesan Pasta Sides earlier and liked it well enough (here), which is why I figured I’d give this stuff a try too.
I have to say though, it’s way too easy to accidentally poke a small hole in this stuff (therefore contaminating the insides) so I really dislike the flimsy packaging.
Maggi Brocolli & Cheddar Rice Kit (mushy and tasteless)
Maggi Mandi Kit (tasty with a nice spicy kick to it)
These two appeared to be new (at the time) so I had to pick up one of each to try. They each came with their own packet of rice inside and packet of required spices, which was quite convenient!
Head & Shoulders Oud Collection Shampoo
Head & Shoulders Oud Collection Conditioner
TRESemme Basic Care Dry Shampoo (repurchase)
Oud-scented shampoo and conditioner? Yes, please! I’ve got a thing for Oud so this was a no-brainer.
The TRESemme Dry Shampoo was a repurchase because it’s nice and compact (for short trips or whatever).
That concludes this post.
