Nordstrom Haul (Jan 2021)

Everyone and I mean everyone, won’t shut up about Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum.

With that being said, it’s pretty expensive.

So, after months of humming and hawwing, I decided to get the Travel Spray Trio.

I probably could’ve found it locally, but for that price, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting an expired or close to expired batch.

I found it on Nordstrom and since I was ordering it anyway, I picked up a few more things, to make it worth the shipping fee. It was not.

The latest reiteration of Angel Perfume shipped separately. Also, one of the perfume samples shipped separately.

I mean, imagine paying several Kuwaiti Dinars for a perfume sample (the one-time-use ones) lol

Since I’d only ordered a few items, I could hear them rattling around inside the cardboard box. Not everything was wrapped in paper.

I literally only got a Perfume and Travel Spray Trio and a Skincare Set and a Candle and a Book.

The rest were either a gift with purchase or samples.

‘The Star Wars Archives: Episodes IV-VI 1977-1983’ 40th Anniversary Book ($25.00)

‘Star Wars’ exploded onto our cinema screens in 1977, and the world has not been the same since.

In this book, George Lucas guides us through the original trilogy like never before, recounting the inspirations, experiences and stories that created a modern monomyth. Complete with script pages, concept art, storyboards, on-set photography and more.

• By Paul Duncan
• 6″ x 8 1/2″
• 512 pages
• Hardcover

First of all, eww Star Wars lol

Now that we got that out of the way, like most dudes born in the 70’s, my older brother is a huge Star Wars buff.

As soon as I clocked it on Nordstrom, I figured he’d get a kick out this thing and I was not wrong.

He was pretty stoked when I gave it to him ^_^

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum Travel Spray Trio ($295.00)

What it is: A trio of travel sprays featuring the luminous and sophisticated scent of Baccarat Rouge 540.

Fragrance story: This extrait de parfum lays on the skin like an amber, floral and woody breeze. A poetic alchemy with a graphic and highly condensed signature.

Notes: Jasmine, saffron, cedarwood, ambergris.

• 0.37 oz. each
• Made in France

I’ve purchased Oud Satin Mood earlier (here) and I quite like it, still.

However, Baccarat Rouge 540 is next level!

It starts off sweet, which obviously I find delightful! The sweetness is a heady mix of jasmine and saffron which almost smell like caramalized sugar. It’s so good that it’s practically intoxicating!

Shortly after, I get a woodsy note, which I also enjoy! It cuts through the sweetness, adding depth to the scent.

Baccarat Rouge 540 smells lovely on the skin but even lovelier in the air when you walk by! Such a beautiful scent!

There are many, many, many “dupes” for BR540 but nothing quite comes close to the real thing, in my opinion.

I will say that I have yet to sniff the most famous dupe though, which is Cloud by Ariana Grande.

Worthy of note, I was wearing BR540 when a random dude who had been hitting on me, caught a whiff and straight up said “You smell like a Goddess” lol

So yeah, definitely worth the hype!

Neom Christmas Wish Scented Candle ($25)

What it is: A limited-edition festive candle that sends out a wish of calm and a sprinkling of happiness this season.

Fragrance story: Christmas Wish is a comforting blend of 13 pure essential oils including mandarin, cinnamon and tonka bean to help you relax and unwind while surrounding your home with the soothing, traditional scent of Christmas.

Style: Warm, spicy.

– Top: mandarin.
– Middle: cinnamon.
– Base: tonka bean.

• 6.52 oz.
• Paraben-free; sulfate-free; phthalate-free
• Made in the UK

Based on the fragrance notes, between the Mandarin and Cinnamon and Tonka Bean, I thought this was baby was going to smell citrus-y and sweet.

In reality, it smelled medicinal, like Vicks or Vapo-Rub.

I think I’ll stick to my Bath & Body Works Candles from now on lol

Clinique Derm Pro Solutions Set for Dehydrated Skin ($39.50)

Next, I picked up a 3pc Skincare Set for dry skin (box on the left) which qualified me for the 8pc Gift with Purchase (bag on the right) all from Clinique.

Although I’m not quite as diligent as I’d like to be at applying it (I’ll skip it depending on my mood), I now can get quite excited about Skincare, dare I say almost as excited as I get for Makeup.

Other than having top-notch products, Clinique are also quite affordable and more often than not, come with a healthy amount of deluxe samples to play around with.

What’s not to love?

Mugler Angel Nova Eau de Parfum (1.7oz) ($100)

What it is: A fruity, floral fragrance that is both captivating and super feminine, exuding instant pleasure and confidence.

Fragrance story: Angel Nova opens with an explosion of raspberry notes, followed by upcycled rose at the heart.

Upcycling is achieved through the process of double distillation of the rose petals, which adds depth and body to the note.

Akigalawood at the base gives this perfume long-lasting power and confidence.

Adorned with vivid raspberry-pink hues, the Angel Nova eco-friendly perfume bottle is forever refillable.

Style: Floral.

– Top: raspberry.
– Middle: upcycled rose.
– Base: akigalawood.

• Made in France

So disappointing… at first.

As I said in an earlier post, I’d been having difficulty tracking down a tester for the original Angel (blue).

However, at the time of this order, Angel Nova (pink) popped up on the Nordstrom site as a newly released item.

Despite the fact that it listed Raspberry in the notes (which I dislike), I added this thing to my online cart right away.

I figured it would have the original Angel DNA, which would hopefully cancel out the nasty Raspberry. Yeah… no.

I was anxious about the Raspberry, that it didn’t even occur to me that the Rose would be an issue. It was.

Angel Nova was intense dislike, from first sniff.

It actually reminded me of something and with time, I narrowed it down to Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme (hauled and reviewed here).

Cut to a few months later, I was in a rush and just grabbed the nearest fragrance from my stash, which turned out to be this baby.

As I said, initially, it starts off bad. However, with time, I detected an absolutely delightful scent which seemed to be emanating from… me!

It was the akigalawood, the base note, which I found so delightful and addictive!

Basically, if you give it enough time to settle (like an hour or so), it morphs from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan making Nova quite an apt name!

Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady Parfum

What it is: A baroque, sumptuous and symphonic perfume that required hundreds of trials to balance its expressive formula.

Fragrance story: A cross between a couture evening dress and the tales of 1000 nights, Portrait of a Lady is undoubtedly the perfume containing the strongest-ever dosage of rose essence and patchouli heart.

Perfumer Dominique Ropion composed an oriental rose, based on an accord of benzoin, cinnamon, sandalwood and, above all, patchouli, musk and frankincense.

A perfume evocative of sensuous beauty that attracts people like a magnet. A modern classic.

Style: Woody oriental, crisp, citrus, fruity.

Notes: Rose, red fruits, cinnamon, benzoin, incense, patchouli, sandalwood, castoreum.

Mood: Sensuous, magnetic.

This arrived separately as well. Imagine paying insane shipping fees for this tiny lil thing lol

Still, the actual full sized bottle of this perfume is actually quite expensive so I’m glad I got a sample.

These are the 3 freebie one-time-use samples I chose for this order. The fragrance notes are above and below.

Le Labo Baie 19 Eau de Parfum

What it is: A crisp, wet eau de parfum that captures how the air smells after a heavy rain on dry earth.

What it does: Baie 19 captures the oil secretions from certain plants, accumulated after a long dry period. The dry juniper berry, the patchouli, the green leaves—all soaked by a beautiful, luminous magnetic rain that comes after a drought.

Style: Fresh, woody.

Kilian Dark Lord Ex Temebris Fragrance

What it is: Seize the night with this fragrance created by perfumer Alberto Morillas.

Fragrance Story: Dark Lord Ex Tenebris Lux is a gentleman of the night. Meet him in the most surprising of circumstances and his mystery slowly unfolds.

A head-twisting mix of shadows and light, Dark Lord seduces in seconds with its elegant, long-lasting accords of leather and strong vetiver, its jasmine drenched in rum and a dandyish entrance of bergamot and pepper. From darkness into light.

All in all, not one of my most exciting hauls, but as I said, I mainly wanted to get Baccarat Rouge 540 (worth it) and the rest, was just to sorta’ even out the shipping fee.
