Nordstrom Hair Care and Fragrance Haul (February)

On February 7th 2020, I placed an order with Nordstrom for some Hair Care and Perfumes.

It might look like a lot, but I actually purchased only x8 items (x3 full-size hair care items – x3 travel-size hair care items – x2 travel-size perfumes) and the rest were all gifts with purchase (deluxe samples).

The total was $336 (tack on an additional $30 for tax) which was around KD 111, not including Aramex shipping fees.

I didn’t know it at the time, but this was going to be my last online order for a good long while.

Unfortunately, one of the fragrances arrived separately (had to pay extortionate shipping fees for it), but everything else arrived in a single shipment, thankfully.

Nothing arrived damaged this time either.

As per usual, there was a gift with purchase on the brands I purchased from, which meant I received even more products to play around with!

Like I said, I actually purchased x8 items, while the rest were all gifts with purchase (deluxe samples).

Perfumes

I’d spotted Oud Satin Mood at 360 Mall and sniffed it at The Avenues Mall a little more than a year ago (here) and couldn’t stop thinking about it ever since!

Coffee Break was a newer release that I’d been lusting after mainly because of my obsession with anything coffee-scented.

As soon as I saw both Oud Satin Mood and Coffee Break available for purchase in travel-sizes, I quickly added them to my online shopping cart.

Maison Francis Kurkdijian Oud Satin Mood Eau de Parfum Travel Spray Trio ($180) (KD 55)

OUD Satin Mood conveys the desire to bring the shimmering Orient to life. You’ll want to wrap it around you, lose yourself in the depth of the moment and suspend time.

Olfactory Description:
– Violet Accord
– Geranium
– Cinnamon from Ceylon
– Damascena Rose Essence from Turkey
– Centifolia Rose Absolute from Tunisia
– Natural Oud from Laos
– Amber and Vanilla Accord

0.37 fl oz x 3

Made in France

Like I said, I’d spotted Oud Satin Mood at 360 Mall and sniffed it at The Avenues Mall a little more than a year ago (here) and couldn’t stop thinking about it ever since!

Since I’ve been pretty much obsessed with my Maison Lancome Le Parfums Grands Crus Travel Set (haulage here), I figured I’d go for the Maison Francis Kurkdijian Globe Trotter Refill Set.

I’d like to point out that the Lancome Travel Set included x4 different fragrances, while the Francis Kurkdijian Travel Set included x3 of the same fragrance (just to be clear).

The box they arrived in was tiny but at 11 mL each, that meant I had a total of 33 mL (which was plenty) of Oud Satin Mood to indulge in!

While I wasn’t a fan of the packaging (too much emphasis on gold turns me off), it was the juice that mattered and the juice on this baby was exquisite!

The opening included a bunch of a stinky florals (ugh) which lasted about an hour or so, only to be replaced by a wonderful Vanilla and Oud combo! It smelled equally gorgeous on my skin and clothes as it did in the air!

As time went on, the scent took on an almost delectable quality! Think along the lines of Maison Lancome Oud Bouquet (haulage here)!

The scent was quite strong (most definitely a Winter Fragrance), which is why it didn’t matter that the little glass vials didn’t include a cap. All you needed was a spritz or two and you were set for the next 48 hours (at least).

That meant you didn’t need to take the perfume on-the-go with you. You could just spritz it on at home (ideally an hour beforehand) and go.

I’m actually glad I didn’t purchase the full-size because this cute little set was more than enough! Oud Satin Mood was “beast-mode”!

If you enjoy Middle-Eastern scents that feature a heady Damascus Rose/Oud/Vanilla combo, than definitely give Oud Satin Mood a try! Just be sure to give it plenty of time to settle on your skin so it could morph into pure magic!

This was my first fragrance from Maison Francis Kurkdijian but definitely won’t be my last!

Maison Margiela Replica Coffee Break Eau de Toilette ($30) (KD 9)

Coffee Break evokes the memory of the first sip of hot coffee inside a warm and cozy coffee shop in Stockholm on a cold winter day.

The warm scent of this unisex perfume recreates the feeling of comfort in the simple pleasure of a fragrant cup of coffee.

A comforting and cozy break over a creamy coffee, savoring hot pastries. The sensation of milk froth on your lips, the soft sound of the coffee machine are encapsulated in this new REPLICA fragrance

Coffee Break is composed of addictive notes of coffee softly blended with the tenderness of aromatic lavender. A unique milky and hot addiction to recall a moment of pure cozyness.

Top: Coffee, Red Apple, Lemon Essence.
Middle: Lavender Essence, Spearmint Essence, Orange Flower Absolute.
Base: Milk Mousse Accord, Sri Lankan Sandalwood Essence, Virginia Cedarwood Essence.

I spotted the Maison Margiela counter at our local Sephora back during Winter 2018 (bottom of this post).

Sadly, much like the Kilian counter and Maison Lancome counter, the Maison Margiela counter was almost always abandoned (no helpful sales assistant ever around).

Thank God for Nordstrom samples though, because that’s how I got to try out By The Fireplace (here) and Sailing Day (here) and Under The Lemon Trees (here).

That said, I’d been dying to get my hands on Coffee Break even before it was released! I’ve just always been obsessed with anything coffee-scented and with a name like Coffee Break and that cozy description, I was highly, highly intrigued and needed to get my hands on this baby!

I mean, even if by some miracle Coffee Break did arrive to Kuwait (it was too new), there was no chance I was going to get to test it because as I said, the Replica counter was always abandoned.

Thankfully, I saw this cute travel-size version available for purchase up on Nordstrom! It was perfect for someone who didn’t wanna’ commit to a whole bottle of what was essentially a blind-buy (untested)!

It arrived in a slim glass vial with a removable cap (meaning you could pop this in your purse and take it on-the-go with you). Not that you would want to, because with each spritz, I was made painfully aware of the 10 mL housed inside and would actually notice a visible decrease in the amount lol

Not gonna’ lie, when I first sniffed Coffee Break I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting full-blown coffee, not hints and whispers of coffee.

In fact, the coffee note in Replica Coffee Break didn’t remind me of YSL Black Opium (this) as much as it reminded me of its less potent dupe, Zara Oriental Delice (this).

It opened up with lavender and spearmint and lemon and cedarwood, all extremely tame and well-behaved (nothing sharp nor screechy). Then the pleasant coffee note made an appearance, joined by a bakery note almost reminiscent of macarons. Then the lavender popped back up again and joined them.

It was a very strange combination!

Honestly, the only reason it worked was because everything was nice and soft! In fact, it was so soft that it quickly turned into an indiscernible skin scent in under an hour! Definitely not a Winter scent.

Strangely enough, Coffee Break put me in the mindset of Suntan Lotion lol

Recently, I’ve been enjoying showering with Lavender Clouds and spritzing Coffee Break behind each ear as I’ll keep getting random whispers of Lavender/Coffee/Vanilla every time I move my head!

If you enjoy soft and pleasant fragrances like the ones from Clean or the ones from Fresh, then definitely give Coffee Break a try!

Oribe Signature Shampoo + Oribe Signature Conditioner

Signature
For everyone, everyday.

Earlier, I’d received one-time-use samples of both the Signature Shampoo and Signature Conditioner from Oribe as a gift with purchase (haulage here) and fallen in love!

After falling in love with the samples, I wanted to repurchase both the Shampoo and Conditioner in the largest size available!

However, it occurred to me that I’d only used a one-time-use sample and should probably try both products out some more before springing for a litre of each.

So, I went for these cute little travel-sizes instead!

Oribe Signature Shampoo ($15) (KD 5)

Every morning should start with a little indulgence, such as this rich daily cleanser, custom-blended from the most exclusive ingredients to silken, detangle and protect. Prepare your hair for glamour.

Lather, indulge, rinse.

1.7 oz
50 mL

Oribe Signature Conditioner ($16) (KD 5)

Oribe spared nothing in crafting this restorative daily moisturizer. Hydrating polymers revive youthful shine for lustrous, healthy locks and detangle for ease of combing throughout the day. Conditioner just got luxurious. Enjoy.

Massage, indulge (for at least one minute), rinse.

Living Proof

I’d enjoyed the performance of the travel-size Triple Detox Shampoo that I’d purchased earlier (haulage here) and wanted to repurchase it in the full-size.

That’s when I noticed that if you spent $40 on Living Proof products, you qualified for a 5pc gift with purchase (deluxe samples).

Since the full-size Triple Detox Shampoo retailed for $29, I just needed to find something else from Living Proof that was around $11.

Eventually, I finally went with the Instant De-Frizzer from the No Frizz range which was $15 qualifying me for the 5pc gift with purchase ($20 value).

Living Proof Perfect hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo ($29) (KD 10)

Perfect hair Day™ Triple Detox Shampoo is a non-stripping, color safe shampoo that gently removes buildup from product, pollution and hard water.

5.4 fl oz
160 mL

I bought the travel-size earlier on a whim (haulage here) and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to repurchase it in the full-size this time!

The ombre packaging strongly appealed to me! It just looked so cool!

Even the product itself which was dark grey, looked pretty cool! It applied like a cream yet lathered up beautifully!

Not unlike the Boots Build Up Removal Shampoo, the Triple Detox Shampoo deep-cleaned my hair (leaving me feel physically lighter) somehow without drying my hair out and destroying it! If anything, it felt like it was nourishing it!

The herbal scent strongly reminded me of the MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator (reviewed here) mixed in with something not quite lemon-y, but lemongrass-adjacent which all together was not unpleasant!

Even though they suggest using it once a week, I use it once every other week because I don’t want to risk damaging my already damaged hair.

I said it felt like it was nourishing my hair, but that didn’t necessarily mean that it was nourishing it. I mean it was named Triple Detox after all lol

Regardless, the Triple Detox Shampoo felt like it helped my scalp breathe!

All in all, I pretty much love this stuff!

Bonus Jonas, it came with a sealed water indicator (little strip of paper you dip in water and it changes color accordingly) to show you if you had hard water in your shower, which was a fun little experiment!

Living Proof No Frizz Instant De-Frizzer ($15) (KD 5)

No Frizz Instant De-Frizzer is a dry conditioning spray that is used to instantly tame frizz that has already occurred, while adding softness, smoothness and shine on medium to thick hair.

2.8 fl oz
98 mL

I’d already gotten my hands on the No Frizz Humidity Shield (applied before frizz) so I figured I’d go for the No Frizz Instant De-Frizzer (applied after frizz).

Unfortunately, my hair tends to frizz up (usually the baby hairs) at the very mere whisper of moisture in the air, making frizz a very real issue for me lol

That’s why, the more anti-frizz products I’ve got on standby in my arsenal, the better!

Living Proof Gift With Purchase ($20 value)

– Perfect hair Day™ Dry Shampoo
– Perfect hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo
– Perfect hair Day Shampoo
– Perfect hair Day Conditioner

I’d already purchased the travel-size earlier (haulage here) but this one came for free (as part of the gift with purchase).

Now I’ve got x2 of these travel-size Dry Shampoo cuties (I mathed)!

Living Proof Perfect hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo

.33 fl oz
10 mL

I bought the travel-size earlier on a whim (haulage here) and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to repurchase it in the full-size this time, which I did!

So I deffo’ didn’t mind getting a bonus sample of the Triple Detox Shampoo because this stuff is awesome!

Living Proof Perfect hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment

A genius styling treatment that allows you to style and treat in one step for smoothness, volume, conditioning, strength, and polish.

– Heat protection (up to 450°F/230°C)

.33 fl oz
10 mL

I’ve been flirting with the idea of getting the full-size of the 5-in-1 Styling Treatment, but didn’t wanna commit.

Thankfully, I’ve got this lil cutie now to help me decided!

Living Proof

So, this was all the Living Proof stuff I got in this haul.

Like I said, I adore their packaging! I find everything from the utilitarian design to the muted colors all very appealing! It just speaks to me!

More importantly, the performance on some of these babies is superb! I mean, I don’t ever wanna’ be without the Triple Detox Shampoo ever again!

Also, it goes without saying, but if any of these bonus samples work out, I’m definitely going to be repurchasing them in larger sizes!

DryBar

Initially, I only wanted to get the full-size Detox Dry Shampoo in the scent Coconut Colada.

Then, I saw that if you spent $50 on DryBar, you got a 3pc gift with purchase ($10 value).

Since the Detox Dry Shampoo was only $23 I needed something from Drybar that cost at least $27 if I wanted the gift with purchase.

Eventually, I went with the Sparkling Soda Shine Mist (such cute names) which cost $28 and totally qualified me for the Drybar 3pc gift with purchase.

Drybar Sparkling Soda Shine Mist ($28) (KD 9/250)

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!

Super-fine mist creates a lightweight high-gloss finish, calming frizz and flyaways without weighing down strands.

– Blanc scent with notes of coconut, amber, and vanilla

4.1 oz
116 g

Funny how I only picked up this Shine Mist just to bump up the total of my order (so I could get the 3pc gift with purchase), but ended up falling in love with this stuff!

I’ve actually mentioned wanting the Sparkling Soda Shine Mist along with a bunch of other Drybar stuff (here), but always opted out, because of the price (seemed expensive for what it did).

Now that I needed something expensive (to bump up the total), it was the best time to get this baby!

First of all, the cute name conjured up images of Sodas at Pop Tate’s Chock’lit Shop from the Archie Comics!

Second, the Hair Mist gave me the effects of using a Hair Serum without dealing with the obnoxious residue that refuses to wash off my hands afterwards!

That said, if I wanted to spray it on my hands and then work it through my hair, that was an option too. You didn’t have to stick to just spraying it on.

Did it tame my frizzies? Not really.

Did it make my hair mega-shiny? For sure!

Best of all, it smelled ah-mazing!

It smelled very warm (sweet) and somewhat nutty, kinda’ like the Ultra Sleek range (Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil scent) from Giovanni Cosmetics (reviewed here)!

I had no expectations for the Sparkling Soda Shine Mist which makes it that much sweeter that I was veritibly blown away by its performance!

Drybar Detox Coconut Colada Dry Shampoo ($23) (KD 7/500)

No wash, no worries! Absorbs oils and adds lift at the roots.

Drybar’s top selling product, Detox Dry Shampoo is now available in a NEW scent Coconut Colada!

This super-absorbent formula eliminates oils and impurities, leaving hair looking and feeling clean and refreshed with extra volume and a matte finish.

Coconut Colada scent with notes of coconut water, muguet, and coconut

3.5 oz
100 g

The main reason for this entire haul was because I was worried that they’d run out of the Detox Dry Shampoo in the scent Coconut Colada (because it was limited edition).

Ironically, as it turns out, I did not like it, at all.

It wasn’t so much the performance, as much as it was the actual scent, which I found cloying.

I mean, I’m always down for coconut, but this was practically stifling lol

It’s a shame because the packaging was pretty cute on this baby, but oh well.

I just don’t have much luck when it comes to Drybar Dry Shampoos because this makes two for two that’ve sucked for me.

Drybar Gift With Purchase ($10 value)

– Hot Toddy Heat Protectant Mist
– Triple Sec 3-in-1 Texturizer
– Detox Dry Shampoo

Drybar Hot Toddy Heat Protectant Mist

Treat before you heat!

Lightweight spray protects dry hair from heat styling with curling, straightening and styling irons (up to 450°F/232°C).

0.9 oz
25 g

Ugh! How stinkin’ cute!

Hot Toddy Hear Protectant Mist was one of my earlier lusts from Drybar (as mentioned here).

I’d been meaning to purchase it at some point, but I just never got around to it.

Thankfully, now I’ve got a deluxe sample to test out before splurging on the full-size!

Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Texturizer

Airy dry finishing spray provides instant texture, volume and body for a tousled, sexy look.

– Blanc scent with notes of coconut, vanilla, and amber

0.35 oz
10 g

This was actually my second deluxe sample of this stuff!

The first was in the Hair Care Sample Pack back in June 2019 (here).

Lots and lots of good stuff is said and written about the Triple Sec 3-in-1 Texturizer!

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo

No wash, no worries! Absorbs oils and adds lift at the roots.

Super-absorbent formula eliminates oils and impurities, leaving hair looking and feeling clean and refreshed with extra volume and a matte finish.

Original scent with notes of jasmine, sandalwood, and madagascar vanilla

0.35 oz
10 g

So, I actually wanted to try the original Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo (as shown), but instead went for the full-sized tinted Brunettes Detox Dry Shampoo (haulage here) and absolutely hated it!

In this haul, I went for the full-sized limited edition Detox Coconut Colada Dry Shampoo which turned out to be dissapointing as well. It’s safe to assume that I’m done purchasing any Drybar Detox Dry Shampoos from now on.

That said, there’s still the matter of original Detox Dry Shampoo getting rave reviews. Luckily, a deluxe sample of the original Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo came as part of the 3pc gift with purchase!

Now I get to test it out and if it I hate it, it was free, but if I love it, I could always just repurchase it in the full-size!

Samples

Last but not least, with every order you got to choose your pick of x3 one-time-use samples.

I went with these babies!

Becca Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer (Blue Stuff) + Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector (Light-Med + Med-Deep)

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder + Laura Mercier Translucent Medium Deep Loose Setting Powder

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

Becca Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer (Blue Stuff) + Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector (Light-Med + Med-Deep)

I’ve been wanting to try the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector but I couldn’t even find it (to swatch it) at the Becca counter at our local Sephora.

Also, for whatever reason, there’s never anybody manning the counter at Becca (maybe I just pick the wrong timings lol). Anyways, I picked this sample so I could be able to test out which shade would work for me.

I also picked this sample because I was genuinely interested in the Becca Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer. I was so sick of the ones that were supposedly “glow-y”, but turned out to be glittery. This stuff seemed different. Even better, it was blue (so cool)!

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder + Laura Mercier Translucent Medium Deep Loose Setting Powder

Since I’d already chosen a sample of this stuff earlier (haulage here), I figured I’d double down.

Also, this stuff is touted as one of the top three Setting Powders of all time!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

Treat yourself to a signature facial at home with ExfoliKate®, the next best thing to seeing Kate in the clinic. See and feel the results instantly.

Fruit enzymes clarify skin by removing dead cells and eliminating bacteria. Highly effective in combating acne, including stubborn blackheads. Polishes skin, revealing a smooth, glowing complexion.

Healthy skin, healthy glow, healthy you.

I’d purchased the travel-size version of this stuff earlier (haulage here) and was fully planning on repurchasing the full-size in this haul, but chickened out at the last minute.

Instead, I went for the itty-bitty one-time-use freebie sample as a consolatory prize lol

Like I said, this was my last online order for a good loooooong while!
