Demeter Fragrances

I’ve been dying to purchase from Demeter since forever!

I posted about Demeter in my previous post (dis). I couldn’t decide on what to get… so I went crazy… and purchased x35 different scents (at $3.40 each) making my order total $119. To be fair, I got them in the sampler size, thinking they’d be the size of actual samples that you typically get as a freebie. I didn’t know they’d be this big lol

Some of these scents had very, very long descriptions. Instead of copy-pasting the entire thing, I decided to just add a “short” description from the site and link each scent to the description page (just click on the title of any scent) and add my first impressions directly underneath.

I tried to group the scents into drink scents, food-y scents, herbal-y scents and abstract scents, but gave up towards the end lol Also, I found a ton of dupes!

Siberian Pine Diffuser Oil (free gift with purchase)
Pomander Roll On Perfume Oil (free gift with purchase)

Condensed Milk (milk and sweet sugar)
This smelled warm and clean and just lovely! To me Condensed Milk smelled identical to MAC Creme D’Nude Shadescent (haulage here) or even Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar (haulage here). Simply lovely!

Espresso (richness, depth and attitude of freshly made espresso)
This was a light, sweet coffee scent that strongly reminded me of Bath & Body Works Summer Tiramisu (haulage here)! For whatever reason, I could almost detect suntan lotion vibes or something coconut-y in this thing lol Another lovely scent!

Fresh Brewed Coffee (awaken your senses with the invigorating aroma of a cup of freshly brewed coffee, get that first-cup-of-the-day feeling all day long)
This smelled exactly like freshly ground coffee beans! It was a bit strong and therefore might be sorta’ overwhelming for some, especially since there was no sweetness in there. A very authentic scent and might be worth a repurchase as a Shower Gel for the novelty factor alone!

Nitro Coffee (The smoother, brighter, cooler out-of-the-tap cousin of our Fresh Brewed Coffee)
Nope! This smelled like Fresh Brewed Coffee with something floral and stinky in there. Not my cup of… coffee (heehee).

Black Russian (sharp and sexy blend of coffee liqueur and vodka)
What the what! This totally reminds me of Black Phantom – Memento Mori by Kilian (haulage here)!!!! Oddly enough, in the dry-down it morphed into Bath & Body Works Oahu Coconut Sunset (haulage here). In any case, I loved it! I knew my sixth sense was telling me to get Black Russian for a reason! I just love my boozy scents and this one turned out to be a win!

Hot Toddy (hot dark rum, creamed butter, brown sugar and lemon, topped with cinnamon and nutmeg)
This was literally Bath & Body Works Tea & Lemon (haulage here) in a bottle! All I got was lots and lots of lemon with a little bit of cinnamon and a hint of brown sugar. I kinda’ don’t like it though lol

Saffron (enveloping and sheer at the same time, like stepping into a warm, fragrant bath)
This was one of the scents I got for “mixing” with the other scents. I liked it, but I also found it a bit… aggressive lol Again, very authentic scent!

Cardamom (intensely aromatic fragrance that is deep and resinous, adds both warmth and balance)
At first, I was disappointed with this scent, because I was expecting something somewhat… sweeter. However, I couldn’t stop sniffing it on my wrist and now it’s completely grown on me! I can’t wait to mix Cardamom with other scents to see what I come up with! It’s such a deceptively addictive scent!

Graham Cracker (tempting combination of honey, molasses, cinnamon and vanilla)
I was expecting something warm and possibly nutty a la Bath & Body Works Toasted Praline & Pear (haulage here), but unfortunately Graham Cracker was just another basic vanilla fragrance. It was all warm and sweet and nice… but basic. Also, completely gone within minutes.

Nutmeg Ice Cream (warm and fragrant, our pure Nutmeg is enveloped in fresh cream and garnished with a touch of sugar to remove any bitterness, fragrant Nutmeg is the star here)
I got a realistic nutmeg scent minus the ice cream. It wasn’t sweet enough for me. No bueno.

Waffles (a balanced combination of the waffle itself smothered in butter and covered in maple syrup-sweet, but not too sweet)
True to name, yet another basic vanilla scent, mixed with maple syrup. On paper, it sounded lovely, but in reality it smelled underwhelming and a bit… stinky (like violets or licorice or something). That said, I found the scent oddly compelling!

Brownie (rich, deep and of course, chocolaty)
Started off smelling horrible, like pure alcohol, but dried down to a lovely sugary-sweet chocolate scent! The sillage on this baby was excellent as well! Might be worth a repurchase as a Candle or Shower Gel or both!

Banana Flambee (a tempting blend of banana, liqueur and brown sugar, the true meaning of indulgence)
Wow! Wow! WOW! One of my most favorite scents in this entire haul! When I first spritzed it on, it smelled like banana-flavored gum, which I honestly did not mind and found adorable! However, shortly after, it turned into pure banana and vanilla deliciousness! Definitely, definitely going to repurchase this in the full size!

However, shortly after, it turned into pure banana and vanilla deliciousness! Definitely, definitely going to repurchase this in the full size and in other forms!

Plantain (If there is such a thing as a sophisticated banana scent, this is it.)
I knew I had my heart set on this baby for a reason (it was toss up between Banana Flambee and Plantain, but I couldn’t decide, so I went ahead and got both)! Plantain was a pleasantly fresh and clean scent, with barely a whisper of banana for a hint of sweetness, perfect for hot summers in Kuwait! Honestly, it smelled like a more high-end perfume!

Rice Paddy (A fabulous and unique combination of the young, green shoots, the emerging rice and the water, fresh and energizing, while also reflecting the calm, almost Zen-like nature of the rice paddy)
I love this scent sooo much! I also really, really had my heart set on Rice Paddy and I’m so glad I went for it! Rice Paddy was yet another delightful, fresh and zesty scent that smelled more expensive than it actually was! If you enjoy fresh and uplifting scents like Dolce&Gabbana Light Blue (haulage here), well Rice Paddy was definitely in the same “scent family”!

Honeysuckle (This is the scent of honeysuckle in June on a warm, sunny day, experienced while driving down a country road about 45 MPH with the windows down. It gets no better than this. Ever.)
I thought this was going to smell… clean, like Bath & Body Works Honeysuckle (haulage here), but it was actually a green scent… with powdery notes… and something slightly sharp, almost lemony. It smelled nice, I suppose.

Sandalwood (warm and sensual version of this classic note; if a fragrance could purr, this would be it.)
This wasn’t the sandalwood scent that I usually found so intoxicating, but it was kinda’ nice, if a bit too light. Sandalwood almost had that same warm and soapy quality of Condensed Milk, except it had something floral in there as well. I can’t wait to mix Sandalwood with other scents to see what combos I can come up with!

Oud (highly valued by perfumers for its sweet, woody, aromatic and complex scent)
Opened up as pure alcohol but dried down to a lovely woodsy vanilla scent, almost similar to Bath & Body Works Marshmallow Fireside (haulage here)! I could almost swear I smelled something fruity in there as well. It’s definitely not for everyone, but I quite enjoy this version of Oud!

Ambergris (warm, earthy and spicy, with vanilla undertones. True Ambergris is a whale by-product and currently over $5,000 per pound)
Not a clue what to expect, but honestly I quite liked it! It was yet another vanilla scent, but not as sweet nor as basic as the others. Let’s call it a more “mature” vanilla fragrance. Worth a repurchase as a Candle or Shower Gel and maybe even a Body Lotion!

Pipe Tobacco (rich, deep, moist and pungent, with touches of both sweetness and spice)
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaas! I got this for layering and mixing and whatever, but I actually love it on its own! Dang, the tobacco in this smells so good and so rich and almost sweet! I can’t wait to mix Pipe Tobacco with the other scents!

Paperback (A trip to your favorite library or used bookstore. Sweet and lovely with just a touch of the musty smell of aged paper)
Initially, this baby straight up smelled like glue! In fact, I was all set to categorize it as a scent for people who enjoy huffing glue (I don’t judge… well, maybe a little). However, it quickly turned into an authentic paperback scent! Kudos!

Firefly (essence of an early northeastern spring evening at dusk)
I know this is gonna’ sound weird, but bear with me. Firefly was a delightful take on… wet grass! It smelled so authentic and fresh and surprisingly pleasant! I’m very tempted to repurchase it, as a Candle!

Thunderstorm (Like poetry, Thunderstorm is subtle and difficult to define, but real, with Thunderstorm reflecting the deep and violent nature of a summer storm.)
This also smelled like wet grass, but mixed in with a delightful floral scent! It’s bugging me that I can’t quite place the floral scent, but it smells so familiar to me! I wanna’ say, I was smelling “lemon mint” (the kind with purple flowers), but I could be completely mistaken. In any case, other than being a nostalgic scent, it’s also quite an interesting one! Personally, I found it addictive!

Moonbeam (A fascinating and unique “foody floral” that opens with Vanilla and Chocolate, then combines with green leaves, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Amber and precious Woods, capturing the dual nature of the moonbeam, reflecting elements of both the innocence of light and the passion of night.)
This smelled vile… at first. It honestly smelled like bathroom cleaning products or something, but then I caught a faint whiff of vanilla, which disappeared as soon as it had appeared. Eventually, it settled into a fancy floral soap scent. It wasn’t horrible, but I don’t do florals in general, so… not for me.

Rain (sweet, fresh, with the incredibly powerful smell of fresh rain)
This smelled slighty citrus-y and very uplifting and just all around beyoootiful! I was very, very, very young (maybe 10 or 11?) when I owned it, so I can’t confirm, but I wanna’ say Rain might be a possible dupe for the long-discontinued The Body Shop Oceanus Eau de Toilette! I’m definitely repurchasing this as a Shower Gel!

Lava Rock (warm and earthy fragrance is inspired by the history of Hawaii that is inexorably intertwined with the volcanoes and lava)
Even though I could clearly see the oil on my wrist (all of these mini Cologne Sprays were super oily), I got no scent from Lava Rock whatsoever. I even double and triple sprayed, but still got nada’. Needless to say, Disappointing.

Steam Room (an ozone fragrance, warm and enveloping, with a touch of eucalyptus to help open up those pores. A comforting and relaxing scent, like the steam bath itself)
When we were kids and one of us would get sick, my mom would rub VapoRub (Vix?) on our chest and turn on this huge hideous bright orange humidifier in our bedroom. That’s exactly what Steam Room smelled like to me, a more dispersed versions of all those smells mixed together. Do not like.

Swimming Pool (A soft, watery, natural ozone scent… wrapped in a fresh cotton towel… Demeter’s Swimming Pool is the lingering memory of the pool water on the skin, not the pool itself. Savor the Summer, anywhere, anytime.)
For whatever reason, I could barely smell this on my skin! I smelled something, but it was very, very faint. It didn’t necessarily smell like a swimming pool, as much as it smelled like my skin after swimming in a pool so… apt description lol

Salt Air (perfect sea breeze on the perfect beach at your favorite tropical island!)
Witchcraft! Sorcery! I don’t know how they did it, but they managed to capture the scent of my towel when I’ve toweled off after a quick dip into the ocean! It’s so on point, it’s uncanny! The scent of Salt Air makes me so happy!

Lime (pure green and citrus, as refreshing as a spring day!)
Not gonna’ lie, this sucker triggered my gag reflex! It was so nasty when I first sprayed it on, but mere seconds later, it smelled all yummy, like lime-flavored Tang! I guess… don’t sniff Lime immediately after spraying it on and give it a few seconds to chill.

Pineapple (full, fresh and juicy heart of the Pineapple, so bursting with flavor and fragrance that you will swear it was squeezed from the ripe fruit itself only moments earlier)
Started off smelling like pure alcohol, but quickly dried down to a juicy Pineapple… with a stinky undertone of sweaty feet. I mean, if you can tune out the sweaty feet scent, this might actually be decent lol

Cotton Candy (It’s just sugar… and maybe a bit of magic!)
I was really looking forward to Cotton Candy but ended up being so disappointed! First it smelled like pure alcohol. Then it turned into a horribly offensive candied berries scent, like some sorta’ cheap air freshener. Ugh!

Molasses (positively enveloping scent that’s sweet and warm as a summer’s day)
Pure alcohol at first, but dries down to a nice sweet boozy scent. Sadly, the unpleasant pure alcohol smell never really goes away. Personally, I’d go with Black Russian over Molasses.

Bonfire (burning maple leaves on a cool, crisp fall New England day. Autumn in the northeast USA bottled.)
Literally Bath & Body Works Autumn (haulage here) in a bottle! Although I found the scent quite interesting, my nose suffered dearly for it. True to name, but also, quite strong! Thankfully, it mellowed out with time.

Sagittarius Eau de Toilette (Originating from the German language, the word ‘wanderlust’ describes a strong impulse to travel and explore – and it was this notion that inspired our fragrance for adventurers born under the sign of Sagittarius, blending Mojave Ghost Flowers, Green Laurel Leaves, Saffron, Amber and Oud)
Honestly? I only got this thing because I happen to be a Sagittarius, but man-oh-man, did this baby smell ah-mahzing! It smelled like Byredo Mojave Ghost (haulage here), mixed in with a bunch of other extremely pleasant and well-blended notes! It smelled so… clean and… expensive and… gawjus!

Pomander Roll On Perfume Oil (Pomander is derived from the French Pomme d’Amber, or Apple of Amber – a ball or container made of perfumes, spices or herbs. Pomander can also be apples or oranges covered in cloves or other spices) (free gift with purchase)
I dabbed a little bit on my wrist and immediately thought of Bath & Body Works Evening Hearth (haulage here)! It’s a very perfume-y yet Christmas-y scent!

Siberian Pine Diffuser Oil (evocative, soft blue-green pine scent, with just a touch of the fresh coolness of Siberia) (free gift with purchase)
I haven’t used this thing yet, but I did attempt to sniff it straight from the bottle (not smart) which burned my nose and made me a bit light-headed lol
