Guerlain Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Haul

Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum (for my uncle’s wife)

The Autumn Perfumes Exhibition took place at Mishref Fair Grounds (Halls 5,6,7,8) during October 24 and was meant to end on November 6, but was extended to November 9 (because… weekend).

At the Guerlain booth, I repurchased Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum as a gift for my uncle’s wife (my mom is 1 of 6 siblings, so I’ve got a whole bunch of aunts and uncles, not to mention their spouses and offspring, just from that side alone).

A few months ago, my cousin’s wife (the one whom I purchased Black Opium Eau de Parfum for) had a baby shower. I had generously spritzed on Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum before heading out to the baby shower.

Even hours later, when I could no longer smell Mon Guerlain on myself, I was still receiving compliments on it. My uncle’s wife seemed particularly enamored with the scent. She wouldn’t stop gushing about it. To the extent that when we happened to leave the baby shower around the same time, I was heading towards my car when she ambushed me.

“Are you wearing the Private Collection?”

“Wha-? No. It’s called Mon Guerlain“.

Private Collection?”

Mon Guerlain… from the brand Guerlain.”

“Well, it smells wonderful!”

Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum

Top Notes: Carla Lavender, Bergamot
Heart Notes: Jasmine Sambac, Iris, Rose
Base Notes: Tahitian Vanilla, Australian Sandalwood, Coumarin, Benzoin, Licorice, Patchouli

I purchased Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum from the Guerlain booth, early on in the year, during the previous Perfume Exhibition (haulage here). Since then, I’ve made a substantial dent, as you can see.

Not gonna’ lie, initially I was more than a little disappointed by the scent. I was expecting to be blown away, instantly! That was not the case. Mon Guerlain was more of a slow burn. It took time to develop on my skin, but once it did, I fell hopelessly in love with the scent!

I described it as an elegant and sophisticated Vanilla Fragrancefor adults, in an earlier post (here). I loved Mon Guerlian so much that I wore it constantly! To the extent that I’d already reached the halfway mark by Summer and decided to set it aside, only pulling it out for “special occasions”.

To be honest, Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum was a bit on the lighter side, which is why I felt like I needed anywhere from 3-4 spritzes and even then, I’d still have trouble detecting the scent after a few hours had gone by. That said, I’d catch a random whiff of it in the air or during a shift in temperature or with a slight movement on my part and MY GAWD, was it gawjus!

Also, the compliments were non-stop! Even when I could no longer detect the scent on myself after a few hours, people would still comment on how great I smell!

Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum (100mL/3.3 fl oz) was reduced from KD 48/500 to KD 39

At the Autumn Perfume Exhibition, I figured I’d pop by the Guerlain booth and pick it up for my uncle’s wife as a gift.

Since it was a gift for my uncle’s wife, I won’t be breaking the seal. I did however place my own bottle (same size, same everything) next to it, to show.

Aside from the discount, they also stashed some fragrance samples for me to play around with (including the new Mon Guerlain Intense and some more from the Absolus d’Orient Collection) so I’m pretty stoked about that!

Oud Essentiel Eau de Parfum (sample)

A unique olfactory encounter between East and West

Top Notes: Saffron, Pelargonium
Heart Notes: Agarwood, Rose, Atlas Cedarwood
Base Notes: Leather Note, Incense, Gaïac Wood

Yuck! Too many notes, all equally pungent while wrestling each other for attention. Honestly, this just hurts my nose. Oud Essentiel smells like something an 80 year old Arab Grandma would enjoy. An entire hour later, it’s still equally repugnant on my skin! Oud Essentiel is quite the opposite of laidback and mellow, ugh.

Santal Royal Eau de Parfum (sample)

A rich wood with a sacred aura

Top Notes: Neroli, Jasmine
Heart Notes: Peach, Rose, Cinnamon
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Leather, Amber, Oud, Musk

I’ve already sniffed Santal Royal before and stated that it was the nicest out of all the Absolus d’Orient Collection (here), but I’d like to amend my previous statement by saying that while Santal Royal was definitely a crowd-pleaser (mass appeal), I find Cuir Itense to be much nicer. That said, they’re both lovely in their own right, but also, completely different from each other.

Encens Mythique Eau de Parfum (sample)

A smoky effect, a divine emotion

Top Notes: Rose, Aldehydes, Saffron
Heart Notes: Pink Pepper, Vetiver, Patchouli
Base Notes: Incense, Ambergris, Olibanum

I’ve already sniffed Encens Mythique earlier (here) and just like the last time, did not like the opening stages. However, once it had fully dried down, I found it thoroughly enjoyable!

Cuir Intense Eau de Parfum (sample)

Inspired by the treasures of the Orient

Top Notes: Osmanthus, Ylang Ylang
Heart Notes: Leather, Musk
Base Notes: Virginia Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Tobacco

Surprisingly great! I simply adore the way this smells! It keeps developing on my skin and I find it enjoyable during every stage! Definitely masculine though (not “unisex”) and I’d say it’s more of a Winter scent too. I’d imagine an older, distinguished, British gentleman, wearing a long coat and bowling hat and possibly even touting a cane, wearing Cuir Intense (think along the lines of Dr. Watson from Sherlock Holmes). If you enjoy your Tobacco Fragrances, definitely give this baby a sniff! Such a comforting scent!

Mon Geurlain Eau de Parfum (sample)

Oriental and woody.

Sensual. Unique. Intense.

A distinctive, oriental, woody Eau de Parfum, sensual and intense, blending the warmth of vanilla with the freshness of lavender, enhanced by the woody notes of sandalwood and patchouli.

So. Much. Yes.

Notice that the band is not gold. This version is the Intense version, released in 2019 and supposedly quite different from the original (with the gold band).

I spritzed Mon Guerlain Intense (sample) on my left wrist and the original Mon Guerlain (EDP) on my right wrist, to compare. They both opened up fresh (lavender), but the Intense version morphed into something reminding me of Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb (Patchouli) or even Mugler Alien (Patchouli) whereas the Original remained fresh, in addition to blossoming sweetness.

Both Mon Guerlain and Mon Guerlain Intense are quite nice, but I believe Mon Guerlain is more unique. I’m happy I’ve got a sample to play around with, regardless. That said, comparing the fine mist and accompanying sillage from the bottle to the pitiful spray on the tiny sample is not a fair comparison.

The fragrance-obsessed me, really appreciates the fact that they include fragrance samples with every purchase now! I’m utterly obsessed with sniffing perfumes and these babies were quite fun to play around with, especially since the full sizes retail for a rather hefty sum.
