Nordstrom Sample Pack (May)

Get a Free Gift with Your $100 Beauty or Fragrance Purchase. Plus, when you spend $150 on beauty or fragrance, you’ll also receive a Bonus Gift.

I wasn’t planning on placing yet another online order with Nordstrom during Ramadan, especially since I was somewhat broke (those Ramadan Kaftans cost a pretty penny). However, there was a deal (more on that in the next post) and I got suckered into placing a “smaller” order lol Since my order was a little over $100, I qualified for the May Sample Pack.

The Makeup-y Samples included something from Fresh (lucky) while the Fragrance Samples included Alien by Mugler (super lucky) and the Hair Care Samples included stuff from Aveda and Living Proof (super super lucky)!

I’ll be going over all the samples that arrived in the May Sample Pack, below…

Face Makeup

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (0.03 oz. each) in 4 shades:

No. 2 Fair Neutral
No. 5.5 Medium Neutral
No. 9 Tan Neutral
No. 14 Deep Red

I’ve actually been meaning to give the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation a try, because it’s known for being one of the “lighter” foundations (lighter consistency, lighter coverage, etc…).

However, rather than purchasing the full size (which was a commitment, because I rarely, if ever, finish up a whole thing of foundation), I decided to go for the substantially cheaper E.L.F. Foundation (haulage here) to see if I actually wear foundation enough, to warrant splurging on the Giorgio Armani Foundation.

As such, it was pretty lucky that I got a 4-shade sample of the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in the May Sample Pack. The shade #2 was clearly too light for me, whereas #14 was too dark for me, but I figured I could probably mix the shades #5.5 and #9 for something that was a closer match to my skintone.

Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Natural Perfection Foundation (0.01 oz. each) in 3 shades:

02N Light
03N Natural
06W Very Deep Warm

I wasn’t really curious about the Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation (hate, hate, hate those long names), but it seemed like another lightweight foundation, so I was down for giving it a shot.

The shade system seemed too complicated for me (It’s just Makeup! Why you gotta’ involve Algebra?), but judging from the online swatches up on the official Guerlain website, 02N was too light and 06W was too dark, leaving only 03N as a hopeful match.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter (single-use samples) in 3 shades:

Chocolate Geode (rich chocolate brown with gold pearl)
Champagne Pop (soft gold with pinky-peach pearl) (bestselling shade)
Opal (universally flattering neutral white gold with soft pink pearl)

I’m not a fan of single-use samples, particularly powder products, because I don’t feel like there’s enough product to get a true feel for them. That said, I was grateful that the shades included were the infamous Champagne Pop and the gorgeous Opal.

Now I’ve just gotta’ decide whether I wanna’ test out the single-use sample on my cheekbones (to get a feel for the shades) or on my arm as a swatch for my blog. Decisions, decisions…

Eyes & Lips Makeup

Lancome Cils Booster XL Vitamin-Infused Mascara Primer (0.07 oz.) (Bonus Gift)

At this point, I think I’ve got like, a hundred samples of the Lancome Mascara Primer. It’s actually pretty decent, though!

Fresh Sugar Mint Rush Freshening Lip Treatment (0.007 oz.)

So cool (possibly literally lol)! More pics of it below.

Elizabeth Arden SuperStart Skin Renewal Booster (0.034 oz.)

Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 (0.1 oz.)

Ooh, Sunforgettable! lol

Clinique Clinique iD Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly + Concentrate for Calm & Comfort (single use)

I’ve been debating purchasing the full thing because… Jelly. However, since my skin has been considerably dry, I decided to do the mature thing and pass on it. So, it was pretty sweet to get a sample to play around with!

Saturday Skin Freeze Frame Moisturizing Beauty Essence (0.6 oz.)

Oooh, fun! I’ve had my eye on Saturday Skin for a minute now. Their products seem interesting and they’ve got a pretty decent price point. Plus, their fuss-free packaging looks kinda’ cute!

Origins Plantscription Retinol Night Moisturizer (0.05 oz.)

RevitaLash AquaBlur Hydrating Eye Gel & Primer (0.033 oz.)

Body Care

Moroccanoil Body Soufflé (0.17 oz.)

More Moroccanoil Body Stuff! Yes, please!

kai Rose Body Lotion (0.17 oz.)

I believe this is my second or third sample of the kai Rose Body Lotion. Don’t mind if I do!

Hair Care

Aveda Speed of Light Blow Dry Accelerator Spray (0.33 oz.)

I was this close to purchasing the full size, because who wouldn’t want to cut their blow-drying time in half? However, it sounded too good to be true! Also, Aveda was pretty pricey. Now, I get to sample the thing, and then decide whether it’s worth purchasing or nah!

Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray (0.5 oz.)

Interesting! Can’t wait to use this bebeh!

Moroccanoil Treatment for All Hair Types (0.34 oz.)

Not the most exciting, but I’m thankful to get a sample and will be sure to put it to good use.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Parfum

Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom
Heart Notes: Coffee, Jasmine
Base Notes: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cedarwood

I’ve already sampled the original Black Opium earlier and shared my thoughts on it (here). Coincidentally, it was also in a previous Sample Pack from Nordstrom.

Thierry Mugler Alien Eau de Parfum (0.04 oz.)

Top Notes: Indian Jasmine
Heart Notes: Wood Notes
Base Notes: Amber

How insanely lucky to get a sample of Alien! I mean, I’m completely smitten with my lil Angel Muse cuties (haulage here) and seriously debating going for Aura (also sampled here)! So, I was pretty stoked to finally give the infamous Alien a sniff!

I’ve heard that it’s quite polarizing (you either love it or hate it) as with most of the offerings from Mugler. However, all of them seem like a win, to me! Alien is no different! It was pure lust at first sniff!

Kate Spade Walk on Air Eau de Parfum (0.033 oz.)

Top Notes: Linden Blossom, Maiden’s Hair Fern, Soloman’s Seal, Calabrese Bergamot, Tunisian Neroli.

Heart Notes: Lily of the Valley, Magnolia Grandiflora, Egyptian Jasmine, Narcissus Absolute Orpur®.

Base Notes: Crinum Lily, White Iris, Violet Leaf Absolute Orpur.

Yuck! What is it with Kate Spade and that powdery Gardenia scent (here)? That said, unlike the other fragrance samples, the ones from Kate Spade seem more generous, and even come with a cap.

Walk on Air started off all citrus-y and innocuous enough. Shortly after, all kinds of powdery florals mixed with sour florals and headache-y florals joined the mix. Do not like!

Thierry Mugler Alien Eau de Parfum (0.04 oz.)

After some time, it dawned on me that Alien by Mugler strongly reminded me of my beloved long-discontinued favorites… either Bvlgari Jasmin Noir L’Essence Eau de Parfum (here) or Givenchy Ange ou Demon Le Secret Elixer Eau de Parfum (here) or a mash-up of both! That explains why I was so susceptible to it!

It smelled absolutely lovely! There’s either saffron or licorice or cardamom in there (can’t tell which, but alls I know is, it reminds me of that heavenly Karak Chai scent), not unlike the discontinue Bvlgari and Givenchy flankers (mentioned above) and I am li-ving for it!

Unfortunately, I can pinpoint some florals in there as well, but after some time, the wood notes pop up. I’ve learned to be quite wary of anything with Amber, but so far Alien seems palatable. In fact, the whole scent just gets nicer and nicer with time!

Moroccanoil Body Soufflé (0.17 oz.) & Treatment for All Hair Types (0.34 oz.)

I was surprised to see a drawstring pouch (containing Moroccanoil samples) within the Nordstrom May Sample Pack, but thought it was a pretty cute presentation nonetheless! I liked the fact that I got a Hair Care sample (because Moroccanoil was a Hair Care brand, after all), in addition to the Body Care sample! Noice!

Elizabeth Arden SuperStart Skin Renewal Booster (0.034 oz.)

Holistic? Wha-?

Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 (0.1 oz.)

First of all, the name Sunforgettable LOL Also, protects from all the usual stuff, UVA, UVB, pollution, infrared radiation, but also, blue light (shore, shore).

Clinique Clinique iD Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly + Concentrate for Calm & Comfort (single use)

Happy, happy! Joy, joy!

Honestly, my Sephora Intensive Instant Moisture+ Cream (haulage here) has been really, really good to me, but as someone who has used the Clinique Dramatic Different Moisturizers, on and off, for years decades, I couldn’t help but be excited about trying out the Jelly version!

Fresh Sugar Mint Rush Freshening Lip Treatment (0.007 oz.)

I noticed in the “New Arrivals” section (up on the Nordstrom website) that Fresh had come out with yet another new shade for their cult-classic Sugar Lip Treatments. It was called Mint Rush… and it looked pretty cool (heehee)!

I added it to my online shopping cart, but removed it (last minute), because I figured it would melt in the extreme heat that we’re currently experiencing in Kuwait. Pretty cool to find a sample of it along with the rest of the other samples in the Nordstrom May Sample Pack! Also, how playful and cute is the packaging on the sample ♥

Final Thoughts

It’s just more convenient for me to break up the post this way, rather than having everything listed together in one super long post. However, if y’all prefer having everything (purchases + sample packs + gifts with purchase, etc…) all lumped together, I don’t mind doing it that way either. If you guys don’t care either way, I’ll just continue doing it my way (which as you can tell, tends to change, from post to post lol)
