Thierry Mugler Angel Muse Eau de Parfum Haul

A new revelation disrupts the Angel Galaxy!

Cosmic explosions collide with magnetic attraction, to create an irresistible Eau de Parfum never experienced before.

Surrender now to Angel Muse, the new addictive fragrance that you will #HateToLove…

What in the actual…

I don’t hate to love. I just hate the commercial for Angel Muse lol

Angel Muse is the first gourmand vetiver for women. A noble woody fragrance, an incisive and uniquely MUGLER gourmand.

I’ve actually been meaning to purchase this baby for a minute now. In fact, I stopped by Harvey Nichols where it was being sold for KD 40+ and was this close to buying it. However, when I asked the sales assistant if there was a Gift with Purchase he said no, and when I asked for Samples he said he didn’t have any (for that price, you better be giving me something), and yet somehow, he was still trying to get me to purchase even more things from the Mugler counter. So, I bounced.

Several months later, during the Perfume & Makeup Exhibition, I stopped by the Mugler booth to give Aura a sniff, when the sales assistant informed me that the 30mL of Angel Muse was now reduced to only KD 10! It was such a good deal, that I bought the last two! They didn’t have their own cash register (had to to go to a nearby counter) but the sales assistant was nice enough to stash several samples of Aura (which I’ve been meaning to try out) in my shopping bag and instructed the guy at the cash register to give me even more fragrance samples as well! Score!

A shock wave is blasting through the Angel galaxy.

Angel Muse, a highly addictive indulgence, comes to life within a cosmic, pebble-shaped bottle stamped with the MUGLER star.

A unique, sublime creation.

Wildly intoxicating…

First of all, the pebble-shaped bottle (or Cosmic Pebble as they call it, which strongly reminds me of my long-discontinued Givenchy Oblique Play from the top notes down to the packaging) was ridiculously cute! Heck, most of the fragrance bottles from Mugler were gorgeous! In fact, I distinctly remember owning the infamous Angel (before they reformulated it) in the stunning star-shaped packaging, and going through several bottles of the stuff, as a kid!

If the pebble-shaped bottle wasn’t cute enough, the itty-bitty 30mL size makes it even cuter! I mean, this thing fit in the palm of my hand! That said, it was so smooth that I’ve almost dropped it once or twice now lol As far as I know, the Eau de Parfum contains Yellow liquid (as shown) whereas the Eau de Toilette contains Pink liquid.

Attractive Explosion: Grapefruit, Red Berries
Addictive Explosion: Hazelnut Cream
Magnetic Explosion: Vetiver, Patchouli

Orange Chocolate ♥ That’s pretty much what Angel Muse smells like and it is simply divine!

Initially, I got a burst of that mouthwatering, delicious, candy sweetness (think Starbursts or Skittles), not unlike the opening notes in Lancome La Vie Est Belle (sampled here). Shortly after, I get an extremely generous dose of pure Chocolate. Right after that, I can detect the Vetiver (which is perfectly blended in with everything else) and the Patchouli. It’s got the original Angel (O.A. lol) D.N.A. but it’s less… offensive (to some). That said, people who don’t enjoy gourmands (my younger sister-in-law, to name one) will definitely find Angel Muse offensive. It’s not very quiet nor subtle. It’s a bit… obnoxious and can even be mistaken for something… cheap lol Despite all that, I love it!

Truth be told, I’ve always loved the original Angel, up until I read/heard somewhere that it was the #1 favorite of strippers worldwide. That’s not why I stopped repurchasing it though. I also read/heard that instead of showering, the strippers would just spray Angel on their unwashed bodies in the hopes of masking their B.O. That’s what made me stop repurchasing my beloved Angel. I was seriously grossed out – possibly traumatized – by that. I’d still stop by the Mugler booth during every other Perfume & Makeup Exhibition to admire the star-shaped packaging on Angel, but never actually purchase anything (also because who knows how long that Gift Set had been sitting out, if it wasn’t already expired at that point). I’ve never purchased any other Mugler fragrance after that, including the infamous Alien (or its many flankers) and now Aura. I was quite curious about Aura and Angel Muse though.

In addition to the awesome deal on Angel Muse, I got several samples of Aura! Both of those were by Mugler, but I also got some samples from Gucci (for women and for men) and Hugo Boss.

Hugo Boss Damask Oud Eau de Toilette (sample)

Introducing Damask Oud, the sixth addition to BOSS The Collection – a range of elite fragrances for Men. A unique and distinctive scent, Damask Oud is inspired by the fine quality of BOSS tailoring and explores a world where fabric and scent are fused. Inspired by the splendor of Damask, which first originated in the elaborate regions of the Middle East, this charismatic fragrance is interwoven with Noble Woods, Suede and Incense. The scent is amplified by the intense and mysterious character of Oud with a trail of precious essences.

Top Notes: Saffron, White Pepper
Heart Notes: Rose, Frankincense
Base Notes: Gaiac Wood, Oud, Papyrus, Cedar

I was very excited to try out Damask Oud, but the scent actually turned my stomach! Certain iterations of Damask Rose smell absolutely vile to me, and you couple that with other equally pungent notes, and I’m stuck trying to stop the food in my tummy from coming back up. Once the scent quieted down, it smelled very… “Arabic”.

On paper (as in spritzed on an actual paper lol), it still smelled horrible, but on my skin, the dry-drown was actually lovely, and reminded me of Bukhoor, but I don’t recall a fragrance ever making me feel this nauseous upon impact (almost instantly)! However, this was the nicest “Bukhoor” fragrance that wasn’t actually Bukhoor (incense chips meant to be burned) that I’ve ever smelled!

If the actual fragrance isn’t something crazy expensive, I might even go ahead and purchase it, because I believe it would be perfect for lightly spritzing (very, very lightly and giving it ample time to dry down) on my Coats, Jackets and Scarves (possibly my hair) during Winter! Actually, scratch that. I own way too many fragrances at this point, to purchase one that I’m not 100% in love with. If it contains even a hint of a note that I don’t like, then I’m going to have to skip it.

x2 Hugo Boss Ma Vie pour Femme Eau de Parfum (sample)

Ma Vie pour Femme was inspired by the independent spirit of a woman as she pauses to indulge in the simple moments in life: in this moment, she is at her most captivating, exuding a glow of femininity and confidence. This perfume BOSS Ma Vie pour Femme was created around the Cactus Blossom, aiming to reinvent and modernize floral green notes with a delicate pink twist. The addition of Cedarwood softly grounded the perfume without losing its captivating clarity. The result celebrates strength and femininity.

Top Notes: Modernity = Cactus Flower
Heart Notes: Femininity = Pink Floral Bouquet (Pink Freesia, Jasmine, Rose Buds)
Base Notes: Confidence = Cedarwood

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this baby, based on the notes. For starters, I had no clue what Cactus Flower was supposed to smell like and I definitely wasn’t a fan of Florals. However, I was quite surprised, nay delighted, by how soft and fresh and clean this smelled!

I keep getting this strong sense of deja vu! I’m almost positive that I’ve sniffed this scent in the form of another Perfume before, be it from Victoria’s Secret Signature Scent range (the actual Eau de Parfums, not the cheap-y Fragrance Mists) or something more high end, but I just can’t quite place it at the moment. In any case, it was pure love at first sniff!

Ma Vie pour Femme was an unexpectedly uplifting, light citrus-floral! The one caveat being the abysmal lasting power (an hour later, it was completely gone). It wasn’t the most unique scent in the world, but it was totally my style! I could see myself wearing Ma Vie pour Femme out and about during Kuwait’s unforgiving Summers! I’m definitely going to hunt this baby down to purchase the full size!

x2 Gucci Guilty Absolute pour Femme (sample)
x2 Gucci Guilty Absolute pour Homme (sample)

Each box came with a sample of the pour femme and pour homme of Gucci Guilty Absolute! I thought that was interesting!

Gucci Guilty Absolute pour Femme Eau de Parfum: Blackberry, GoldenWood®, Bulgarian Rose & Patchouli

I’ve actually purchased the full size during a previous visit to the Perfume & Makeup Exhibition (haulage here). That’s why I won’t be going over it in this post.

Gucci Guilty Absolute pour Homme Eau de Parfum: WoodLeather®, GoldenWood®, Patchouli and Vetiver

At first, this smelled unpleasant. Later on, I could detect the Wood Notes which were much nicer! On paper, it did smell somewhat similar to Le Labo Santal 33 (sampled here). However, where Santal 33 could be worn by women, I believe Gucci Guilty Absolute (pour homme) was distinctly masculine. That said, on my skin, the scent was completely gone within the hour (my skin ate/drank up the scent lol).

x6 Thierry Mugler Aura Eau de Parfum (sample)

Aura MUGLER is an intuitive assertive fragrance: oriental, floral, and sensual. Instinct encapsulated in a fragrance that melds a seductive animal heart and a vibrantly refreshing floral heart.

Instinctive Heart: Tiger Liana, Vanilla-Sugared Almond
Botanical Heart: Rhubarb Leaves, Orange Blossom
Animal Heart: Bourbon Vanilla, Wolfwood

What a strange yet interesting scent!

At first, I could almost swear I was smelling Peppermint, despite it not being listed in the notes. Not unlike Zara Femme (haulage here) it straight up reminded me of Toothpaste, honestly. There was a strange medicinal scent (kinda’ like Tiger Balm or Camphor) that was prevalent, every now and then. Based on previous experience, I’m assuming that would be the Vanilla-Sugared Almond (blech). As for the herbal scent, it was probably the Tiger Liana (whatever that meant).

However, it quickly turned into a delightful lush “Green” scent, in the same family as Marc Jacobs Decadence Eau So Decadent Eau de Toilette (haulage here), followed closely by some florals. Finally, it turned into an expensive, almost masculine Vanilla, that tapered into a more generic yet not unpleasant Vanilla, as time went on. On paper, it still retained those incredibly delightful lush “Green Notes”.

All in all, I kinda’ don’t hate Aura. In fact, as short-lived as they were, I was living for those Green Notes! Heck, it’s worth a purchase for the gorgeous bottle alone! It’s a bit too strange to warrant purchasing the full size. However, I just might go ahead and purchase the 30mL instead (like I did with Angel Muse) and see how I get along with it.

Thierry Mugler Angel Muse Eau de Parfum was released in April 2016. As such, at the Perfume & Makeup Exhibition, the 30mL was reduced from KD 24/250 each to only KD 10 each! Even Nordstrom were selling the 1 fl.oz./30mL for KD 22/900 per pop, so purchasing them locally for KD 10 was a total steal! You can still purchase the 50mL for KD 36/000 or the 100mL for KD 44/500 at our local Sephora. If you’re a lover of Gourmands, you need to at least sample Angel Muse!
