While browsing through the New Arrivals section up on Nordstrom, I spotted an exciting new version of my beloved Light Blue called Light Blue Sun. It listed Coconut Water (which I adore in most forms) in the fragrance notes! I mean…c’mon, Light Blue + Coconut Water just sounded awesome! So, despite my luck (or lack-thereof) with purchasing perfumes before actually smelling them, this was yet another blind-buy lol Since I was going to have to pay extortionate shipping fees regardless, I figured I might as well purchase a few more items, to even out the shipping cost (I mathed).
I picked up something from the Too Faced collab with Erika Jayne and to qualify for the Too Faced Gift with Purchase also purchased a Too Faced Mascara (travel size). Lastly, since I’d actually sampled Mon Paris earlier (here) and over time, grew to enjoy the scent, I sprung for the YSL Mon Paris Eau de Parfum Set (3oz/90mL + 1oz/30mL).
Since the total for everything was more than $100 I ended up qualifying for both the April Skincare Sample Pack (here) and April Fragrance Sample Pack (here) and the April Bonus Gift (here) and got to pick out 3 samples for free.
– Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Sun Eau de Toilette (Limited Edition)
– Too Faced x Erika Jayne Pat The Pu$$ Kissable Body Shimmer (Limited Edition)
– Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (travel size)
– Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris Eau de Parfum Set
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Sun Eau de Toilette (Limited Edition) retails for KD 33/450 ($102)
The new limited edition Eau de Toilette for Summer 2019 is inspired by the exhilarating magic of summer love on the enchanting island of Capri, warmed by the dazzling Mediterranean rays.
The warm sun of Capri lends its golden amber hue to the fragrance, while the sky-blue box is embellished with a traditional illustration of the beaming sun, in the style of the Mediterranean Majolica of Capri.
Top Notes: Light Blue’s mouth-watering top notes of tangy Italian Lemon and juicy Granny Smith Apple are quenched with a splash of cool, refreshing Coconut Water and sharpened by the crisp sea sprays of the Ozonic Accord.
Heart Notes: The original heart of sensual Jasmine and feminine White Rose is now infused with exotic Frangipani, creating a heady blend of sun-soaked floral nectar.
Base Notes: Aromatic Cedarwood is warmed with sensual Amber and Bourbon Vanilla. Finally, a hypnotic trail of seductive White Musk lingers on the skin, evoking the addictive desire of summer love.
The main reason I went ahead and placed this was order was to snatch up Light Blue Sun! As a die-hard fan of the original Light Blue (repurchased on and off throughout the years), I was beyond excited to get my hands on Light Blue Sun (constantly tracking it via Aramex’s Shop & Ship Service and everything)! Since it was new-new, there were no reviews of it anywhere online. I had nothing to go on, except the notes. As such, it was yet another blind-buy (I never learn lol).
All those sounded notes lovely… on paper. However, in reality, I was honestly more than a little disappointed. I was expecting greatness, but was met with something you could probably find at Bath & Body Works. On my skin, I did not get a single whiff of Coconut nor Vanilla. It had the same DNA as my beloved original Light Blue (here), but mixed in with a particularly irritating floral. I could be wrong, but I’m guess the cloying floral was Frangipani (which would explain the Bath & Body Works vibe, because they’re constantly using Frangipani in their summery releases and I was never a fan of it then, so I’m definitely not a fan of it now). According to the reviews, it very well may be the Jasmine. In any case, whatever that floral note was, I wasn’t a fan. That said, this was only my first impression.
With use, Light Blue Sun has slowly but surely grown on me (I can’t stay mad at anything that has Light Blue DNA in it) and I find myself enjoying it more and more, especially in the heat! I can even detect faint whiffs of Coconut every now and then, which mixed in with everything else, is slightly reminiscent of Suntan Lotion (which I’m very partial to)! I simply adore the beach-y notes! The floral notes, less so. I was expecting something less floral and possibly sweeter (more blatant Coconut and Vanilla), hence my initial disappointment. However, with use, I’ve discovered Light Blue Sun to be a pleasant scent in its own right! The lasting power was abysmal (just like the original) and even if it’s still available once I run out, I probably wouldn’t repurchase it (I much prefer the original), but I will continue to wear it and enjoy it, while it lasts. Not my most favorite, but still fun to try!
Light Blue Sun was a fresh citrus-y floral, perfect for hot summers in Kuwait!
Here’s the original Light Blue side-by-side with new Light Blue Sun for comparison. To me, the original (reviewed here) just looks so… sexy, whereas Light Blue Sun looked less so.
Dolce & Gabbana Gift With Purchase ($30 value)
Receive a Velvet Cosmetics Pouch and Deluxe Samples of The One Eau de Parfum (0.25 oz.) and Dolce Eau de Parfum (0.15 oz.) with your Dolce & Gabbana Women’s Fragrance purchase of $100.
I had my heart set on purchasing Light Blue Sun regardless, but apparently I also qualified for the Gift With Purchase (as shown). However, I didn’t actually open up the box myself. It arrived already opened. First the Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Parfum Intense (haulage here) and now this Dolce & Gabbana Gift With Purchase. I don’t know what’s up with Nordstrom, but it seems I’ve jinxed them…
Inside the box was a beautiful Velvet Cosmetics Pouch wrapped up in Black Tissue Paper. Inside the Cosmetics Pouch was these two miniature Dolce & Gabbana Fragrances.
Dolce & Gabbana The One Eau de Toilette
Top Notes: Madonna Lily, Italian Bergamot, Mandarin, Lychee, White Peach
Heart Notes: Ylang-Ylang, Orange Blossom, Broom Absolutes
Base Notes: Vanilla, Vetiver, Musk
I received a bottle of The One (same size, same everything) earlier, as part of the April Fragrance Sample Pack (here) and absolutely hated it! It’s extremely similar to Zara Black Amber Eau de Toilette (here), which I hated as well. Honestly, they’re both equally repulsive (enough to make me lose my appetite)! Unfortunately, with this, I now have two minis of The One lol Yuck!
Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Eau de Parfum
Top Notes: Neroli Leaves, Papaya Flower
Heart Notes: White Florals (White Water Lily, White Daffodil, White Amaryllis)
Base Notes: Cashmeran, Musk
I’ve only ever sampled Dolce Garden (here) so I was pretty excited to sample the original! It wasn’t my most favorite thing in the world, as it was most definitely a floral-y floral (not my style), but Dolce was not nearly as offensive as The One. It kinda’ reminded me of fancy French Soaps found in upscale Hotels, actually. Also, the scent became significantly lighter until it gradually disappeared. That said, how stinkin’ cuuute is the bottle, particularly the cap!
All the Dolce & Gabbana stuff in this haul.
– Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Sun Eau de Toilette
– Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Cosmetics Pouch (gift with purchase)
– Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Eau de Parfum (mini) (gift with purchase)
– Dolce & Gabbana The One Eau de Toilette (mini) (gift with purchase)
Years ago, I started off watching The Real Housewives of Orange County (don’t judge me, YOU try looking away from a train wreck) and once the season was over, needed my drama fix, so I moved on to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills which seemed to have more interesting housewives. Lisa Vanderpump was fascinating to watch, (especially in comparison with the boring Orange County Housewives)! Kyle Richards was cute as a button! Brandi Glanville (who was later cast in my beloved Big Brother UK) brought the drama! My least favorite was Kim Richards. I just can’t stand the woman! My absolute favorite was Eileen Davidson! She seemed like the most sane one. Later on, when Erika Jayne was introduced, I thought she was a trip!
The only reason I stopped watching the show was because I got too busy and now I don’t know where I left off (which season and which episode). Plus, I couldn’t binge the show. I had to either download it or stream it, both of which was too much effort lol However, just typing all that up kinda makes me miss them so I suppose I’ll go back to watching again.
For whatever reason, Too Faced collabed with Erika Jayne on one of their collections. I only picked up one thing from the collection, Pat the Pu$$ Kissable Body Shimmer because I wasn’t quite sure if it would ever make it to Kuwait. Since I was only $4 shy of qualifying for the Too Faced Gift With Purchase, I added a Travel Size Mascara to bump up the total. That said, at first, I found all these overtly sexual names kinda’ funny, but now it’s starting to become annoying. Why does everything have to be hyper-sexual? It’s just makeup.
Too Faced Pat The Pu$$ Kissable Body Shimmer (Erika Jayne Collection) (Limited Edition) retails for KD 11/800 ($36)
Taste as good as you look with Erika’s infamous kissable body shimmer in a tantalizing sugar cookie flavor. Using the included puff, roll and pat the glamorous rose gold champagne pigment onto décolletage, shoulders, legs, or anywhere you want to get noticed.
I’m not one for Body Shimmer… unless it’s flavored. Some of you might be too young to remember, but back in the day Jessica Simpson had a makeup brand called Dessert Beauty that had all kinds of flavored products (even flavored perfumes!) and I absolutely loved that stuff! Urban Decay also came out with Edible Body Powders, which I also had to purchase! I just have a soft spot for that stuff!
Based on the risque name (that’s actually the phrase she uses while dancing), I questioned whether the Pat The Pu$$ Kissable Body Shimmer would ever make it to Kuwait. Plus, it was Limited Edition, so I wasn’t sure how long stocks would last. Also, one of the YouTubers I watch (TiffanyD she rambles a lot, but she’s honest and somewhat informative) raved about it. So, I decided to go ahead and order it online. A Body Shimmer that’s Rose-Gold Champagne shade and tastes like Sugar Cookies! What more could a girl ask for?
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (travel size) retails for KD 3/930 ($12)
Experience the pursed-sized version of a mascara so amazing… It’s Better Than Sex! This unique collagen-fueled formula thickens, lengthens, and curls after just one coat. Swipe on for the most luscious, dramatic, volumized lashes possible!
Since I was only $4 shy of qualifying for the Too Faced Gift With Purchase, I added the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (because the travel size of the original and the travel size waterproof version were the least expensive Too Faced items found on Nordstrom) to my online shopping cart, which automatically added the Gift With Purchase (shown below) along with them too. I wanted to purchase something that I’d actually get some use out of, ya feel me?
Too Faced Gift with Purchase ($11 Value)
Receive deluxe samples of Hangover Setting Spray (0.06 oz.) and Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in Milk Chocolate (0.08 oz., light/medium matte) with your $40 Too Faced purchase.
Since both the Body Shimmer and Travel-Size Mascara amounted to a little more than $40, I qualified for the Too Faced Gift With Purchase, which consisted of these two cuties!
Too Faced Hangover Setting Spray (0.06 oz.)
Stay fresh and flawless with this handy, TSA-friendly travel size of our iconic weightless 3-in-1 coconut water-infused mist that primes, sets, and refreshes makeup while it helps skin stay hydrated.
From the moment it was released, I’ve tried several times to get my hands on the Hangover Setting Spray via Beauty.com but it kept going out of stock. I believe I’ve spotted it being sold at our local Sephora, but at that point, I wasn’t sure quite how old (possibly expired) it was and didn’t wanna risk it. Needless to say, I’m happy that I’ve finally got a little sample to play around with now!
Too Faced Milk Chocolate Chocolate Soleil Bronzer (0.08 oz.)
Our bestselling bronzer just turned travel-sized! Create all-over warmth with this TSA-friendly version of the classic 100% cocoa powder-infused formula you love for a lasting bronze that smells as good as it looks.
Doesn’t it kinda’ look like an Oreo? So cute! I already own Milk Chocolate in the full size, but I’m super stoked about getting another one in and adorable mini size, because I love, love, love messing around with Bronzers (since the beginning of time even, or rather since I was 14… I’m now 34)!
All the Too Faced stuff in this haul.
– Too Faced Pat The Pu$$ Kissable Body Shimmer
– Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (travel size)
– Too Faced Hangover Setting Spray (mini) (gift with purchase)
– Too Faced Milk Chocolate Chocolate Soleil Bronzer (mini) (gift with purchase)
Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris Eau de Parfum Set ($231 Value) retails for KD 49.170 ($150)
A two-piece fragrance set featuring the warm floral scent presented in a signature box.
Mon Paris is a sparkling fragrance inspired by Paris, the city of intense love.
Top Notes: Calabria Bergamot, Red Berries (Strawberry and Raspberry), Pear
Heart Notes: White Peony, Datura Flower, Jasmin Sambac, Orange Blossom
Base Notes: Patchouli, White Musk, Ambrox
The experience is a passionate and unforgettable whirlwind journey to Paris.
Honestly, this was a last-minute, spur-of-the-moment purchase. I’d received an adorable miniature of Mon Paris earlier (here) and as time went by, grew to enjoy the sweet scent! I mean, as much as I say I’m over “sweet scents” and gourmands and such, after sniffing so many non-sweet scents, I start to really miss and crave sweeter scents again. Also, even as a mini, the sillage on Mon Paris was excellent!
So, when I spotted this Set that came with a full sized Bottle (3oz/90mL) and an adorable smaller sized Bottle (1oz/30mL) of Mon Paris Eau de Parfum in a stunning Box, all valued at $231 and being sold for $150, I just couldn’t resist! What with the pink liquid housed inside the clear Bottles, with their cubed caps, and little grosgrain bows in black with the YSL logo engraved on their little gold plates, the whole thing looked just so darn adorable! I figured I could place the larger Bottle on my vanity and take the smaller Bottle with me, when I’m out and about. As for the Box, it was gorgeous and I was definitely going to be holding on to it (to be re-purposed for storage or summat)! I mean… look at all that holographic gorgeousness! Between the outer packaging on Black Opium Intense (here) and the outer packaging of the Mon Paris Set, I’ll give it to them, Yves Saint Laurent do a great job on their outer packaging!
Finally, we come to the scent. Mon Paris was a juvenile “fruitchouli” (fruit + patchouli) clearly designed to be a crowd-pleaser. Personally, I didn’t find it particularly complex nor unique. It smelled like sugared strawberries at first, but quickly turned into a floral. As I said earlier (here), you could easily find something similar at Zara or Victoria’s Secret or even Bath & Body Works for a fraction of the price. Heck, it smelled so sugary and synthetic at times, that it could even pass for some sort of Strawberry Air Freshener or Fabric Softener (not the good kind either) lol That said, I really, really like the sillage on this baby! It smells sooo nice in the air, when I first spritz it on and walk around! I’ll have to play around with it some more, to find out what works best (cool weather, warm weather, high heat, etc…), but for the time being, I don’t love it. I only like it. I’ll continue to use it though and hope that it’ll eventually grow on me.
In hindsight, I probably should’ve gone for Black Opium (the original) or better yet Lancome La Vie Est Belle if I wanted something sweeter.
Gifts With Purchase
April Natural Skincare Sample Pack ($188 Value) (here)
Free 16pc Natural Beauty Gift with Purchase (a $188 Value) with any $125 Beauty or Fragrance Purchase
Like I mentioned earlier, I contacted Nordstrom to double check if I’d used the promo code (Pink or Yellow), when I was informed that I’d qualified for the April Natural Skincare Sample Pack (as shown), since the total for this order was more than $100, which they promptly sent over. For convenience’s sake, I created another post (here) where I listed all the samples included, if you’re interested.
April Fragrance Sample Pack (here)
Choose a Free Gift with Your $85 Women’s or Men’s Fragrance Purchase. During our Scent Event, try samples from Jo Malone, Atelier Cologne, Voluspa and more. Promo code (PINK or YELLOW) required. Plus, when you spend $100, you’ll also get a “bonus” gift.
Since the total for this order was more than $100, I qualified for the April Fragrance Sample Pack. As you can see, I went with Yellow. For convenience’s sake, I created another post (here), where I went over all the samples included, listing their notes and everything, if you’re interested.
April Bonus Gift ($48 Value) (here)
Notes: Pink Pomelo Grapefruit and Watery Green Nuances are blended with Lily of the Valley and Coriander Blossom. Zesty and effervescent!
Since the total for this order was more than $100, I also qualified for the April Bonus Gift which was a Nest Grapefruit Reed Diffuser.
With every order, you got to pick out 3 free samples. This time, I went for the “bestsellers”.
– Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (sample) (bestseller)
– Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau de Parfum (sample) (bestseller)
– La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream (sample) (bestseller)
I’m currently on the hunt for a Loose Setting Powder that’s flattering on dry skin (particularly, the under-eye area). I kept coming across the same three, that were touted as being the best of the best. Laura Mercier was one of them. The sample came with both a Translucent shade on one side and the Translucent Medium Deep shade on the other side. Clearly it was kismet, because the sample could not have become available at a better time! Out of all the available fragrance samples, the only one that interested me was Tom Ford Black Orchid. Obviously, I had to get that too. Everything else was meh. So, I went with La Mer Cream (purely because it’s crazy expensive) for the third and final sample.
Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau de Parfum (sample)
Top Notes: Black Truffle, Bergamot
Heart Notes: Black Orchid, Black Plum
Base Notes: Noir Gourmand Accord, Patchouli
Initially, all I could smell was antiseptic floor-cleaning liquid. It smelled very medicinal, almost menthol-y! As time passed, it gradually got louder and louder, until it was practically suffocating me. I actually had to change out of my shirt! Tom Ford Black Orchid had that same choke-y back-of-the-throat vibe that I got from Zara Black Amber (here) and D&G The One (here) and Victoria’s Secret After Party Angel (here). I wanna’ say the polarizing note could be the Plum, but I can’t be too sure.
In any case, I did not a single whiff of “chocolate” or anything remotely sweet or gourmand. That said, after sifting through a handful of reviews, people claim that you need to give Black Orchid a second, if not third shot, before it starts to smell pleasant. I suppose I’ll have to play around with it a bit more, but I am not looking forward to it (lol too traumatized).
Everything I purchased from Nordstrom in April + April Natural Beauty Skincare Sample Pack + April Scent Event Fragrance Sample Pack + April Bonus Gift + Dolce & Gabbana Gift With Purchase + Too Faced Gift With Purchase + x3 Samples.
Aside from the April Natural Beauty Skincare Sample Pack (here), which was shipped over separately (which ended up costing me more than the samples were worth lol), everything else arrived in a single shipment (wrapped in paper and stuffed in a big box). To add insult to injury, something had leaked inside the April Natural Beauty Skincare Sample Pack which resulted in everything becoming wet! It was nothing a little wipe-down couldn’t fix, but still, annoying. Also, the Dolce & Gabbana Gift With Purchase arrived unsealed (already opened), just like my previous purchase of Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Parfum Intense (here) which had also arrived unsealed (already opened). Once or twice is fine, but I hope this doesn’t become a recurring issue.
Aside from the x2 Dolce & Gabbana The One Eau de Parfum (mini) which I found absolutely repulsive, I was very happy and grateful for everything else in this order! If you’re interested, all the Limited Edition items in this order are still available for purchase.
Hope you enjoyed this post!
