I finally caved and decided to buy Kilian Black Phantom (Memento Mori) Eau de Parfum (purchased for a whopping KD 116) (mentioned here), rather than continuing to lust after it from afar (here). The fact that the sales assistant (stationed at the Lancome Fragrances) was such a sweetie was also a major factor! I mean… homeboy hooked it up!
He drowned me in Black Phantom (literally dousing me with the stuff!) and willingly filled up several of those little vials for me (with scents that I chose) and gave me several more fragrance samples that he thought I might enjoy and gave me a Dolce & Gabbana Duo Set (Perfumed Body Lotion + Lipstick) and gave me an Estee Lauder Cosmetics Bag (which was filled with a mish-mash of Travel-Size Estee Lauder products and an actual Travel-Size Armani Perfume that he’d stuffed in there for me)!
He did me right! Enough to where I felt obligated to purchase something from his station! So, I picked up another Perfume that I’d been lusting after, which was Lancome Tresor Midnight Rose Eau de Parfum (purchased at a more reasonable KD 43)!
See? The first 2 boxes were the Perfumes I bought. Everything else was the stuff he gave me!
Estee Lauder Cosmetics Bag:
– Estee Lauder Double Wear Long-Wear Makeup Remover Wipes (5 Wipes)
– Estee Lauder Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Foam
– Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow Palette
– Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara
– Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Eye Pencil
– Estee Lauder Brow Now Dark Brunette Brow Defining Pencil
The Cosmetics Bags was actually really cute, for a change! Inside, I was delighted to find deluxe samples of both skincare and actually wearable makeup! It contained x2 Deluxe Samples of Mascara and a teeny-tiny Eyeshadow Palette and a Brow Pencil in Dark Brunette and an Eye Pencil in Black and a Cleansing Foam and some Makeup Remover Wipes (5pc)! I mean, this baby was on par with something I’d expect to get from Nordstrom as a Gift With Purchase, not our local Sephora! Like I said, the entire kit was actually practical (wearable/useful), down to the cute cosmetics bag!
If that wasn’t enough, I even found a travel-size Eau de Parfum (shown below) stuffed in there as well!
Giorgio Armani Si Passione Eau de Parfum (0.5 oz/15 mL)
Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Pear, Black Currant
Middle Notes: Rose, Jasmine, Heliotrope
Base Notes: Vanilla, Cedarwood
I actually received a tiny sample of Si Passione as a Gift With Purchase in the Nordstrom Fragrance Sample Pack (haulage here), but it was nice to get a travel-size version as well! He told me that he’d purposely stuffed it in there (inside the Estee Lauder Cosmetics Bag shown above) for me, which I thought was super sweet of him!
Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Duo Set
– Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Dolce Flirt Matte Lipstick
– Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Perfumed Body Lotion (3.3 oz/100 mL)
In addition to the Estee Lauder Cosmetics Bag, he added this Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Duo Set to my shopping bag! I’d actually fallen in love with the tiny sample of Dolce Garden, that I’d received from Nordstrom earlier (here), so I was excited to give the “original” Dolce a sniff! This Duo came with Dolce Perfumed Body Lotion which had a fresh white floral scent and Dolce Matte Lipstick in the shade Flirt (Red) which was actually beautiful and wearable!
As per usual, they (not my guy) stashed a few Clarins Skincare Samples in my shopping bag, at the check-out counter.
In addition to everything else, my guy also filled up 3 vials of scents that I chose! Then, he gave me some more fragrance samples that he chose! I’ll go over all the notes and everything below.
Maison Lancome Santal Kardamon Eau de Parfum (x4 samples)
Santal Kardamon is an ode to rich sandalwood, accented with spicy undertones. An assemblage of two delightful extractions, this woody fragrance combines balsamic inflexions with warm notes of green cardamon, housed in an engraved vessel with a gold-tone stopper.
I found the scent of Santal Kardamon quite compelling when I’d sniffed it earlier (here) so I was ecstatic when my guy stashed x4 samples of the stuff in my shopping bag!
Lancome La Vie Est Belle Eau de Parfum (x4 samples)
Top Note: The elegance of Iris becomes the backbone of the fragrance. It blossoms from the first to the last note like never before.
Middle Note: The strength of Patchouli gives strength and depth.
Base Note: A sweet gourmand adds a burst of unexpected radiance.
The infamous (and most mispronounced) La Vie Est Belle! This particular perfume was loved by many, many, many women world-wide… which kinda’ turned me off it. That notwithstanding, I harassed the sales assistant into giving me some samples of La Vie Est Belle during this past Perfume & Makeup Exhibition (here). I’m not proud of it and worse still, I wasn’t even as interested in Perfumes, as I am now. In any case, now that I’m actually interested, I thought it was pretty sweet of my guy to add x4 samples of La Vie Est Belle to my shopping bag as well! I mean… it’s popular for a reason, right? Who knows, I might even fall in love and spring for the real thing!
Other than Kilian Black Phantom “Memento Mori” Eau de Parfum, these little vials were my most coveted items in this entire haul! The darker one was from Maison Lancome and the other two were from the newer additions to Kilian!
I’ve been dying to give Oud Bouquet a sniff for what seems like forever now, so I was ecstatic when he rummaged around (the bottle on display was still empty) and came back with a tester to fill up the little vial for me! As for the other two, I loved the way both of them smelled on me, when I’d first spotted them and tested them out on my skin earlier (here), but I couldn’t decide between them. Having a sample of each of them to play around with back home, at my leisure, just made me so happy and grateful that I honestly felt that I was going to cry! He even stuck a sticker on the vials and hurriedly jotted their names down so I’d remember which was which! The best part was, I didn’t even have to convince or coax him into doing any of this! I just expressed my interest and bless his little heart, he got on it, right away!
Maison Lancome Oud Bouquet Eau de Parfum
A trio of bold wood essences blend together to create Oud Bouquet, an enchanting and mesmerising fragrance from Lancôme. Accompanied by a praline rose signature, twenty year old wood is paired with smoky accents of gaïac wood and contrasted by the soothing caress of copahu wood.
I’ve pretty much been obsessed with giving this baby a sniff (here and later here), but the tester always seems to be empty and nobody seems interested in refilling it! Thankfully, my guy was working the Lancome Fragrances section (not quite sure if it included the Maison Lancome as well) and he hooked it up for me! I finally, finally had my hands on a sample of Oud Bouquet and let me tell you, it was worth the wait!
Kilian I Don’t Need A Prince By My Side To Be A Princess Eau de Parfum
“I wanted to amp up the girl power with a unique scent calling out all fierce females. Gourmand with a kick, PRINCESS is like sipping on a green tea mocha with a tip of ginger on the nose for sassy spice.” – Kilian Hennessy
Prince Charming, take note—this Princess ain’t waiting at home for your comeback call.
Notes: Ginger, Green Tea, Marshmallow
Princess (spotted earlier, here) was one of the newer additions to Kilian. Obviously, the entire name wouldn’t fit on the sticker on the vial, so he just jotted down Princess. Initially, it smells like Grass, but then changes into a yummy Cotton Candy Scent!
Kilian Bad Boys Are No Good But Good Boys Are No Fun Eau de Parfum
“I wanted to invite you to take a walk on the wild side with a scent made for misbehaving. BOYS is a very sexy and very fresh scent thanks to the instantly recognizable cola accord made of nutmeg, cinnamon and lime.” – Kilian Hennessy
Bad boys are our guilty pleasure but, honestly, what would your Saturday night be without them?
Notes: Cola, Cinnamon, Cedarwood
Boys (spotted earlier, here) was also one of the newer additions to Kilian. Seeing as how I kept referring to it as “Cola”, he jotted down Cola on the sticker. Mainly, I just wanted this because I was intrigued by the Cola note lol
Lancome Tresor Midnight Rose Eau de Parfum retails for KD 43
Charming. Mischievous. Desirable. A sexy-sweet blend of raspberry, rose, vanilla and sensual musk for mischievous femininity: Catch my heart if you can!
Top Notes: Raspberry, Black Currant Bud Absolute
Middle Notes: Rose Absolute, Jasmine
Base Notes: Vanilla, Musk
During my previous visit, I was actually on the look-out for another fragrance, but on a whim, gave this one a sniff (here) and was absolutely besotted by the delightfully sweet scent! I wasn’t planning on purchasing it at this time, but since it was his station and he did hook me up, I figured one good turn deserved another and decided to purchase it then and there, so hopefully he might benefit (commission?) from my purchase too. With that being said, from the romantically beautiful ombre bottle down to the ridiculously gorgeous combination of Raspberry + Rose, Tresor Midnight Rose was a thing of dreams (sweet, sweet dreams)!
Kilian Black Phantom “Memento Mori” Eau de Parfum retails for KD 116
Inspiration: On turbulent seas, an inescapably transient pirate ship braves black waters, leagues deep in mystery. Black Phantom “Memento Mori” reveals its hidden treasures to the curious nose in waves.
Fragrance Story: Rum Accord from Martinique, akin to ‘pirates water’, spikes the scent of strong Coffee at its heart, balanced by Vetiver Essence. A deadly bite of Cyanide Accord hides menacingly, like the smile from death itself. Smile back as Sugar Cane and dark, creamy Sandalwood assures a trying journey holds a sweet reward.
Living for Black Phantom “Memento Mori” (pun intended)! For starters, it came in the coolest Keepsake Box of all time, with a very, very detailed Skull (playing up to the whole “Memento Mori” theme) on the surface, Achille’s Shield depicted on the side and a tasseled Key
to lock up your deepest, darkest secrets! The actual Perfume was safely nestled inside the Black Lacquered Wood Box, amidst a bed of satin (or at least it looked and felt like satin). The 50ml refillable Perfume Bottle which also had Achille’s Shield embossed on either side, looked simple and elegant! Best of all, everything was Black, with just a few hints of Grey/Silver! Like I said, hands down the coolest presentation of a Perfume… of life!
I’d actually spotted Black Phantom “Memento Mori” much earlier and had become absolutely obsessed with it (here) and actually “coaxed” 2 vials of it from two different sales assistants (here). So, based on all that, I already knew I was genuinely in love with the scent! I was beyond elated after finally getting my hands on this baby!
Black Phantom “Memento Mori” even inspired the Youngblood post (here)!
Mah babies ♥
Ugh, so stinkin’ pretty that I can’t even deal!
I still can’t believe he gave me all this stuff just for buying 2 Perfumes that I’d been obsessed with and was going to end up purchasing at some point anyway!
Such a good guy, right?
All the Perfume-y Stuff (purchases + gifts with purchase + samples)
I spent an exact total of KD 159 on these two Perfumes (my wallet was crying and everything). However, Black Phantom “Memento Mori” was my first niche fragrance ever (well, I’ve purchased fragrances from niche brands before, but those were gifts for others, never for myself) so… worth it! I mean I’d been obsessed with that thing from the moment I saw it, but decided it was too price-y… and ended up buying a ton of cheap-y fragrances from Zara and Victoria’s Secret to compensate, but if you do the math, rather than buying 100 Zara Fragrance (here), for that same price (more or less), I could’ve just purchased Black Phantom from the start (logic!)
Also, I actually had a good time at Sephora, largely in part due to the the sales assistant! He was so friendly yet respectful and genuinely helpful, which in turn made me much more willing to part with my hard-earned money! See how that works? Take note, other Sephora Staff Members.
He told me to go ahead and ask for him the next time was at Sephora and said he’d totally hook me up, again. His parting words to me were “Nobody leaves (insert name) unsatisfied!” It might sound like he was flirting, except he had well-manicured nails, was impeccably dressed and was flat-out prettier than me (ergo totally batting for the other team). Just to be clear, he was not in any way flirting with me. He was just a genuinely nice (and smart) guy, who happened to share my passion (my new-found passion, rather) for Perfumes!
Hope you enjoyed this post!
