American Idol Season 17 Contestant (Alejandro Aranda)

You need to watch the video of this guy! He’s… magic!

So, it’s no secret that my guilty pleasure is these reality tv, singing competition, type of shows. American Idol, X Factor, Britian’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent, Asia’s Got Talent, etc… I’ll watch them all (except for The Voice, blech), but I’m more partial to the British counterparts, because they’re just way more entertaining! If the people I like make it through, I might watch all the way until the end of the season, but more often than not, I’ll just watch the auditions up to right after the boot camp or groups segment.

I know a lot of it is staged but whatevs. I like watching Simon Cowell’s face light up when he’s supposedly shocked by someone’s talent (or lack thereof). Out of all the judges on all these shows, my favorite was Harry Connick Jr. because he had this effortless disarming charm and unlike any of the other judges who just spouted very vague and general “advice”, he actually gave out constructive criticism that was relevant to the contestant he was judging at the time. As much as I used to adore Katy Perry, I can’t stand her now. She’ll talk over the contestants in the middle of their performance or do something ridiculous like get under the table and stay there, just to get more air time and always always has to be the center of attention! She’s just so extra!

Anyways, towards the end of episode 2 or 3 (can’t remember) of season 17, in walks this dude and veritably blows me away! I mean Katy Perry can’t seem to muster up the interest in anyone other than herself for a whole minute and looks completely bored halfway through the performance. Meanwhile Luke Bryan looks constipated throughout the whole thing (I think it’s his “I’m in awe” face, as well). As for Lionel Richie, he voiced his approval both during and afterwards and he did it with a huge grin on his face!

Basically, Aranda, utilized his guitar in a way that’s not seen as much, while performing an original song. Then, when Lionel asked to see more, Aranda masterfully played the piano, with a side of velvet-y smooth crooning! What made him even more endearing to me is the fact that he comes across as so unassuming and humble! It’s not shown in this clip, but his adorable dimpled smile as he was leaving the building warmed my heart! I’ve found my favorite!
