Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara (sample)
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r #340 Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (sample)
Kat Von D Trooper Tattoo Liner (x3 samples)

According to my Sephora App, I only need 15 more points to reach 200 again, and qualify for the next “Brand Gift” (full deets here) or whatever it’s called. Also, I’d just received a text from Sephora that said, “Free Gift with every purchase for Eid“. Plus, the last time I’d been to Sephora was about 6 months ago (free Sephora Birthday Gift, here), so it has been a minute. I figured I might as well pop in to a Sephora, check out what’s new (photos here), grab a few things so I could reach 200 points and get some samples and a “Free Gift” out of it, in the process. All signs were pretty much pointing to… Sephora.

Ouai Dry Shampoo retails for KD 9/250

I was quite pleased when I spotted Ouai in Kuwait (pics, here), but as someone who has never actually tried anything from Ouai before, I didn’t know what to choose. I’ve complained (non-stop) about the disappearance of my favorite Batiste – A Hint of Colour Medium & Brunette – Dry Shampoo (featured here) from the entire country! That’s why I’ve been trying out different ones (Batiste – Cherry – Dry Shampoo) (Soap & Glory – The Rushower – Dry Shampoo) (Brelil – Hair BB Powder Spray) hoping to find a decent substitute. Still on my search, I decided to pick up the Ouai Dry Shampoo and give it a try.

For starters, this stuff was not a powder nor a foam. It was a straight up liquid (quite wet), which was puzzling, because it just seemed counterproductive (adding moisture to somewhere you were effectively trying to get rid of moisture). However, somehow, this just stuff just works!

I spritzed some on before hopping in the shower (so I knew I was going to wash it off anyway) and after the initial shock (of this stuff being wet) was pleasantly surprised by the outcome! I’m not quite sure how, but it gave my hair so much volume! Also, as opposed to Powder Spray Dry Shampoo, this stuff didn’t leave any powder residue which tends to make my hair look dull. In fact, it made it look greasy as heck! Despite the perfume-y floral scent (which was pretty nice actually, kinda’ like something from Chanel), this stuff made me feel gross (to the extent that I couldn’t bring myself to use it on freshly washed hair). Confused yet? Me too! I didn’t know whether I loved or hated this stuff! It did its job (adding more volume) and smelled pleasant while doing so, but I couldn’t get past how dirty it made my hair look!

After using it exactly once (after the initial pre-shower test) I didn’t get a chance to make up my mind on whether I liked the Ouai Dry Shampoo or not, because… fast-forward to a few weeks later, when I grab this stuff and attempt to spritz it on my hair… and nothing comes out! I. Tried. Everything. This thing was a bust. I’m guessing some of it might have dried up in the umm… atomizer (sprayhole? lol I dunno’), blocking the rest of the product inside the can. It’s still full because as I said, I’ve only used it once. So yeah, faulty packaging (no bueno). I couldn’t even return this stuff because I’d already gone back to exchange the Tony Moly Mini Green Apple Lip Balm and I didn’t want them to think that I’m some troublemaker. Plus, it had been about a month or so (too late) since I purchased the Ouai Dry Shampoo. Honestly, I was over it.

Forget Boots. I’m pleading with you now, Sephora! Please, please, start selling Batiste – Hint of Color – Medium & Brunette – Dry Shampoo!

Urban Decay Sabbath 24/7 Glide-On Pencil (deep navy matte) retails for KD 7/750

Sabbath (awesome name, huh?) was a repurchase (from Beauty.com which has sadly close down since). I’d just ran out of the one I had. The Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Pencil (haulage here) will always be my all time favorite when it comes to Black Liner, but for everything else (other than black), I love the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencils!

Sabbath is an absolutely stun-ning blue! Sadly, pastel blues and bright blues are quite tricky to pull off… successfully (not impossible, but not easy, either). I mean, I love the 80’s as much as the next person, but only a rare few can wear blue on their eyes and not end up looking like clowns or worse. Sabbath is more of a deeper blue, making it infinitely more wearable (less 80’s). In fact, it’s so dark it could easily pass for black.

The matte finish makes Sabbath quite versatile as well! As opposed to other liners with a glittery or shimmery finish, Sabbath won’t irritate your eyes when used on the waterline. You could also use it to smoke out the lower lash-line or just pop some in the crease (making sure to blend it quickly, before it sets). You could even use Sabbath as a base under any of those super sparkly ultra-glitter Super Shock Shadows from ColourPop. When blended out or paired with certain shadows, it’ll definitely look brighter and lighter, but when applied full-strength, it can look almost black. You control the brightness and intensity of Sabbath.

As for myself I’ll only rock Sabbath as a more colorful alternative (albeit a very, very subtle one) to black (especially during the daytime, when black liner can come across as a bit too stark and severe), when I’m wearing colored contacts. I’m particularly fond of pairing Sabbath with matte greys, shimmery lavenders and sparkly taupes!

Honestly, I truly, truly believe that Sabbath would look gorgeous on everyone and anyone, across the board!

Urban Decay Grindhouse Double Barrel Sharpener retails for KD 3/750

This is why I can’t have nice things lol I dropped the Sharpener only seconds after taking it out of the packaging! Prognosis: it’ll live.

The reason why I love the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencils is because they’re so emollient (feel creamy, go on so smoothly, blend easily before they fully set)! The reason why I don’t love using the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencils in any of the black shades is because they’re so emollient. The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencils are great when I’m using the more colorful ones in my waterline, or blending and smudging them out on my lower lash-line, or in the crease.

However, when it comes to black, I prefer precision. I wanna’ line my eyes and not have the wing on one eye look different (wider, thinner, longer, whatever else) than the other side. I need my liner to look identical and that’s pretty much impossible when using the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencils, because these things are so emollient and super creamy, to the extent that they’d need to be sharpened with (not after, WITH, as in during) every use. No joke, after just sharpening it, by the time I’d be done drawing on my liner on one eye, the edge of the pencil would be so blunt that it would need to be sharpened (again) for the other eye! If I’m too lazy to sharpen it (again), I end up with blatantly mismatched eyeliner (due to one side being applied with a sharp edge making the line thinner and more precise, and the other side with a blunt edge therefore making the line wider and messier). That’s why when it come to black liner, I prefer the Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Pencil (haulage here). They’re equally creamy but slightly less emollient and therefore less fussy (only need to be sharpened after every 2-4 uses).

Regardless of the brand, since most of my pencil liners are so emollient, they get eaten up (effectively being wasted) every time I sharpen them! What I mean by that is, it doesn’t take just one go around for the pencil to get sharpened. It takes several, to get it juuust right, with the creamier pencils. More often than not, the tip would come out all loose and wiggly, and the sharpened tip would just fall off (literally seconds after being sharpened), leaving behind a blunt nub… that would need to be sharpened, yet again (therefore wasting even more of the pencil). It’s incredibly frustrating, especially if you needed to be somewhere and were already running late and just don’t have time to be dealing with this stuff.

I came to the conclusion that I’d been sharpening my emollient pencils with a sharpener that was incompatible with them (well, duh)! That’s why I’ve sorta’ been obsessed with collecting sharpeners… from every brand… for years. I’m convinced that I’m going to accidentally stumble upon the greatest sharpener in the world (one that sharpens my more creamy pencils to a ridiculously sharp tip without me having to waste so much of the actual pencil), the Rolls Royce of the sharpener world, if you will! The L’oreal Micro Liner Ultra Fine Eyeliner came with a perfect sharpener, which I fell in love with and promptly lost (of course) but unfortunately has been discontinued (like, maybe more than a decade ago). Dior used to make a pretty sweet sharpener as well, but I’m not quite sure what happened now. The rest are all unmemorable.

I’ve actually purchased the Urban Decay Grindhouse Double Barrel Sharpener before (from Beauty.com to round out my order and qualify for free shipping lol), but I don’t recall ever actually using it (safe to assume that it’s also lost). So, when I found myself at the Urban Decay counter at Sephora, I decided to pick up another one. Not quite sure why they haven’t discontinued the Double Barrel Sharpener yet, since they’ve already stopped making the Glide-On Shadow Pencils (their version of Chubby Sticks) but whatevs. I found sharpeners from other brands, even one from the Sephora brand itself, at the “aisle of doom” (across the check-out counter) which cost a bit less than the one from Urban Decay, but I had my heart set on the Urban Decay one, in the hopes that it would solve my issue with the more creamy pencil liners. Plus, it looked cuter!

Urban Decay Grindhouse Double Barrel Sharpener retails for KD 3/750

I only purchased these 2 items from Urban Decay (which barely added up to being over a tenner), but the guy manning the Urban Decay counter generously handed me an Urban Decay Distortion Stash Bag (with 5 different sample cards!) as a gift with purchase!

Urban Decay Distortion Stash Bag contains:

Vice Lipstick (sample card) – Perversion Mascara (sample) – Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid (sample card) – Eyeshadow Primer Potion (sample card) – All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray (sample)

Vice Lipstick (sample card)

Perversion Mascara (sample)

Back Row: All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray (sample) – Vice Lipstick (sample card) – Perversion Mascara (sample)
Front Row: Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid (sample card) – Eyeshadow Primer Potion (sample card)

Close-up shot of all the Urban Decay Samples.

Every single one of the samples was actually usable, for a change!

Urban Decay Distortion Stash Bag

Even the Distortion Stash Bag was pretty cool! It looked very Summer-y! I could see myself popping a few of my “essentials” in it and tossing it into my much larger Beach Bag!

Too Faced Melt Off Waterproof Mascara Remover retails for KD 7/250

A mascara that actually removes mascara? Sold! Obviously, I had to try this thing, especially as someone who believes more is more, when it comes to mascara. Apparently, you’re supposed to apply this stuff to your lashes like a mascara (coating them from base-to-tip) and giving it about 60 seconds to break down your actual mascara, before wiping everything off with a damp cloth or makeup wipe. I’m usually not a fan of oil-based eye-makeup removers (residue, foggy vision, etc…), but this stuff seems promising (translation: I’m a sucker for a good gimmick)!

Sephora Color Hit Nail Polish retail for KD 2/500 each

I actually took a photo of the entire Sephora Nail Polish display (here). Apparently, the red has the older Color Hit packaging, while the other two with ridiculously cute, egg-shaped packaging were probably the updated version. I wasn’t planning on getting any of them, especially since I didn’t need another Nail Polish, let alone three! However, the bright red looked quite pretty (I’m kinda’ having a moment with all things red) and the egg-shaped ones were too cute to pass up (I couldn’t decide between the two, so I just got both)!

Sephora Color Hit Nail Polish (old packaging) in the shade High Speed (red) retails for KD 2/500

Neon Red! Yes, please! Also, with a name like High Speed (me), how could I resist? I literally just got pulled over by a cop last week for speeding, but managed to talk my way out of it (sorta’) and he knocked it down to a minor violation (not wearing the seat-belt which I believe is around KD 5), but then a few days later, the camera caught me speeding in a no-speeding zone, which is probably gonna’ set me back about KD 50 or so (fun!), not counting the previous violation. Let’s blame mercury retrograde for those (not my blatant disregard for the speed limit). Anyways, High Speed is a spicy red that would look muy caliente during Summer (think, Miami Vibes) and appropriately festive and cheerful during Winter (think, Christmas)! Basically, High Speed would look gorg, year-round!

Sephora Color Hit Nail Polish (new packaging)

I mean… how stinkin’ cuuute? I die!

Sephora Color Hit Nail Polish in the shade Winter Spirit retails for KD 2/500

Every time I see a shade like this (be it an Eye Liner or Eye Shadow or even Nail Polish), I can’t resist getting it! I just can’t! I dunno’ what it is with me and greys, but I find them irresistible! They’re just incredibly appealing to me! As such, I had to get Winter Spirit (keep wanting to call it Winter Solstice, instead, for some reason). Despite the name, I’m also going to be sporting it year-round… ‘cuz I’m a rebel (and seem to be breaking rules, left and right lawl).

Sephora Color Hit Nail Polish in the shade Sweet Summer Tan retails for KD 2/500

I think it’s very mean when people purchase a single love bird and raise it all by its lonesome. That’s why I got Sweet Summer Tan, to keep Winter Spirit company! It seemed like a pretty nude, so I’m hoping it won’t clash with my sallow skintone (I can never tell with nudes). What can I say? I like my neutrals, so I stick with ’em!

Tony Moly Mini Green Apple Lip Balm retails for KD 2/500

I was delighted to find a handful of Tony Moly products (even more Korean Beauty! I die!) at the “Aisle of Doom” (stacked with rows and rows of travel-size minis) while waiting in line for the check-out counter! Everything looked ridiculously adorable! Once I spotted the Green Apple Lip Balm, I snatched it up so fast that I didn’t even notice I’d accidentally grabbed the tester (no seal). I was super excited to start using this baby, in particular. I only realized that someone had dug in their finger (eww) after I was already home. The very next day, I hotfooted it back to Sephora and exchanged this baby for a brand new one (with a “seal” and everything). I was actually on the hunt for something to wear to an upcoming Baby Shower and Sephora was just on my way (and by that, I mean so far out of my way lawl).

Despite already getting the Urban Decay Distortion Stash Bag (from the guy at the Urban Decay counter) as a gift with purchase, they also tossed in a few really cool samples at cash register! They gave me stuff I could actually use! Like, what is going on with Sephora (Kuwait)? New management or something? Whatever it is, I’m lovin’ it! I got 3 Liners (Kat Von D) and a Mascara (Marc Jacobs) and a Foundation (Fenty Beauty) and not one of them was from a cheap-y brand either! I didn’t even ask for anything, so I was doubly surprised! First the bag, now this? Then I remembered the text message I’d received about their being a “Free Gift with every purchase for Eid” and everything started making sense again lol

These are all the things I purchased on my latest trip to Sephora.

As you can see from the receipt, I purchased more than KD 15 worth of stuff, meaning I definitely hit 200 points and qualified for another “Brand Gift“. I asked the cashier if I could pick up the “Brand Gift“, then and there (as opposed to having to return to Sephora on another day). He told me that I had to come back later (on another day). I went back the very next day (to exchange the Tony Moly Mini Green Apple Lip Balm) and ended up with the same cashier from the day before. When I asked him (again) about the “Brand Gift“, he told me that it was out of his control and that I would, have to wait) for word from someone at the Sephora Head Office in Dubai. He told me that I should keep an eye out for an e-mail or a text from them. Unlike the day before, he decided to share that I should wait for at least 72 hours for the Sephora app to reflect my current points (it still said that I needed 15 points to reach 200 points and qualify for the “Brand Gift“). More than a week passed by and still I received no word from them…

This was my entire haulage (purchased stuff + samples). Despite everything, I actually had a surprisingly delightful experience at Sephora (for a change)!

  2. Oh wow!! Now since i am back in Kuwait, i should get to Sephora. I also received an email saying 15% discounts on all products until 9th Aug for all black card members. Am sure u must have received the same. Btw is that Fenty foundation ur shade? or did they just randomly pick a shade and gave you?

  3. Oooh welcome back! Nope, random shade. I suspect he just grabs whichever is closest lol Also, I did get the same message via text (I opted out of e-mail) but I’m not planning on going because I just went recently (haulage post to come) ^_~
