Bath and Body Works Big Sale (Part 1)

Like I said earlier, shortly after my previous visit (haulage here), I went back to the Avenues (for completely unrelated reasons) only to find the “Big Sale” taking place at Bath & Body Works. I was a bit miffed that the last time I was there (haulage here) none of the staff felt the need to share the fact that the Big Sale was coming up, but then it occurred to me that they themselves might not have known, until the very last minute (it’s a jungle out there). I was especially annoyed that the Henri Bendel Signature Candles (purchased here) had all gone on sale, but then I did the math and it turns out that even with the “discount” the total for all 6 Candles would’ve been exactly the same (sneaky little hobbitses!) as when I bought them during the Buy 3 Get 3 Free Deal that they had going on at the time. Thankfully, none of the CocoaShea Collection (hauled here) was on sale (typical, since it was relatively “new”) otherwise, I would’ve straight up lost it.

As per usual, none of the good stuff was part of the “Big Sale“. In fact, I strongly suspect that they brought out all the unwanted products out of storage, to foist on us during the Big Sale. Heck, had they offered them for free, I still wouldn’t have taken them. I was only thinking it, but this one girl actually said it (out loud, in Arabic), “Only the nasty smelling scents are on sale”. Even if by some miracle, you did manage to find a pleasant scent, the state of the products themselves was just… so sad. Most of the products were so badly damaged, they could have easily passed as factory blems! A lot of the Fine Fragrance Mists were a quarter empty and missing their caps. Most of the large 3-wick Candles not only had little nicks, but legit had burrows scraped across the top layer of wax, not to say anything of the missing lids. PocketBacs were left half opened. Shower Gels had gunk collected on their flip-top caps. Nothing was where it was supposed to be. The place was… a mess.

The Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps regularly cost KD 3/500, but during the Big Sale they only cost KD 1/000 each. Just like everything else on sale, most of the Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps scents were horrible. So, due to lack of options, I found the 3 most palatable scents; Island MargaritaCactus Flower & CoconutCinnamon Spiced Vanilla and stocked up on those.

Island Margarita Deep Cleansing Hand Soap

Kick back and relax with freshly squeezed Lime kissed with Sea Salt

My first introduction to Island Margarita was in wallflower form (hauled here). Ironically, it was also during the “Big Sale“. The scent was pure deliciousness! It was all sweetness and limes… and actually reminded me of Skittles! I loved it! Everyone loved it! In fact, I vowed that if I ever came across them at Bath & Body Works, I’d purchase every other product (Shower Gel, Body Lotion, Fine Fragrance Mists, PocketBacs, etc…) in the Island Margarita scent. Sadly, I only stumbled upon a Island Margarita PocketBac, once (reviewed here).

I was actually pretty surprised to find Island Margarita among the soaps on sale! At first, I even though it was some sort of mistake, but they had a whole row of Island Margarita Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps stacked behind one another in the “sale section” of the store. So, I quickly grabbed 4 (I was so sure that I’d love the scent) and tossed them in my shopping bag. I figured they’d be perfect during the hot summer months of Kuwait.

Back home, I quickly learned why they were on sale. One of them had faulty packaging (the pump wouldn’t pop up, making it impossible to dispense the liquid soap housed inside). As for the scent, it was so far from the Island Margarita that I’d loved all those years ago. It smelled more like freshly cut grass… with a dash of lime. I was so turned off by the scent of this version of Island Margarita (too late to do anything about it since I’d already purchased them) that I decided to save them for last, and instead started using the next Deep Cleansing Hand Soap from this haul.

Cactus Flower & Coconut Deep Cleansing Hand Soap

Beautiful blend of Cactus Flower, Iced Coconut and Lemon Sugar.

I’ve had Cactus Flower & Coconut before (hauled here) and although it wasn’t my favorite, I do remember it being quite nice. Plus, like I said, there weren’t many options (the other scents were straight up vile!) in the “sale section”. So, I picked up 3 for good measure, and started using one of them (as soon as I got back home). In fact, I’ve already finished it up. I’ll be honest, the scent is a bit… odd, but I actually quite like it! It’s hard to place, but it smells like being at the pool… with a dash of lemon. It’s a clean, soap-y scent with alternating wafts of tangy lemon. I feel like Cactus Flower & Coconut Deep Cleansing Hand Soap could pass for a unisex scent, if not a straight up masculine scent. I don’t have a particular preference for when to use this scent so I’m just going use Cactus Flower & Coconut year-round (whenever I feel like it).

Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla Deep Cleansing Hand Soap

The delicious fragrance of Rich Vanilla Beans sprinkled with Sugar Crystals and freshly ground Mexican Cinnamon.

Recently, I’ve been finding the scent of Cinnamon to be… irritating. As such, I’ve been trying my best to avoid the stuff. That said, I tend to enjoy most of the Vanilla scents that Bath & Body Works have released over the years… except for Boardwalk Vanilla Cone (hauled here), ugh! Ironically, also purchased during a more recent “Big Sale“. So since this stuff had Vanilla and I generally enjoy most Vanilla scents, and also it was the only Vanilla option in the “sale section”, I picked up 3.

Once I finished up one of the Cactus Flower & Coconut, I pulled out the Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla and started using that (I like to alternate). Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. However, I was veritably blown away! I’d just woken up and was washing my hands when I was pleasantly surprised by the mouth-watering scent of Cinnamon and Vanilla! It was delicious! It was rich! It was intoxicating! In fact, anxious for my next hit of heady cinnamon-y vanilla goodness, I actually looked forward to using Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla throughout my day! I’m actually almost done with my first Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla Deep Cleansing Hand Soap. Truthfully, Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla was just perfect during Winter!

Let’s say a single Deep Cleansing Hand Soap lasts me for a month. I purchased 10 Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps, so that’s me set for the next 10 months (at least).

Since these were on sale, I got them for only KD 1/000 each! So instead of paying KD 35/000 total, I only had to pay KD 10/000 for all 10 Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps. Plus, I’m all stocked up for the upcoming year, to boot! Honestly, I love Bath & Body Work’s Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps because they’re so rough and exfoliate like no other! The pleasant scent is just a bonus. With that being said, I would’ve liked to have seen more options during the “Big Sale“, and nicer smelling ones, at that.

What I saw during the “Big Sale” was very… disappointing.
