Soap and Glory

I promised that I’d be reviewing some Soap & Glory products a good while ago but ended up deciding to just lump everything together into one post, and so here we are.

I really don’t like this brand… I always get suckered into buying their products based on the adorable packaging (all pink and cutesy, with vintage glam pin-up models), funny product names, and tongue-in-cheek blurbs and excerpts, only to end up being disappointed by the performance of the actual product. To be fair, the products generally do what they’re supposed to do, just not in the way that I prefer. I also find most of their scents to be downright vile, particularly Original Pink fragrance which seems to be featured in most of their products. Although the Original Pink fragrance is loved by many, I find it too floral-y and perfume-y for my taste. Their prices aren’t exactly budget-friendly either, especially when you factor in the sub-par performance of most of their products.

I’ve mostly tried some Bath & Body Products, some Skincare Products, but aside from a single Lipgloss (purchased online via I haven’t really delved much into their Beauty Products. I’ve also got a handful of Minis (from the KD 1/000 “bargain bins” at Boots), and some products that came in a Holiday Set (that they come out with during every Holiday Season). So, I feel like I have a good selection of products here to form a valid opinion. You can purchase Soap & Glory products at Boots.

A fresh, fruity floral scented antibacterial gel with natural grapefruit extract and XBAC-99™. Special formula for tube, air travel and commuter use! Contains moisturising ingredients to help soften the skin. Scented with our Original Pink fragrance.

I picked this up because of the name, Hand Maid (also it’s a cute pink gel, c’mon now). Its consistency seemed very different than my beloved Bath & Body Works Antibacterial Hand Gels (also known as PocketBacs) which I’d grown so accustomed to. The latter (PocketBacs) dried up in seconds whereas the former (Hand Maid) seemed to leave some sort of residue on my hands (which is a pet peeve of mine) that I assume can be attributed to the “moisturising” ingredients. In laymen’s terms, this stuff made my hands sticky. Also, it had that vile Original Pink fragrance which I despise. I don’t understand the obsession with this stuff. Needless to say I did not enjoy using Hand Maid nor will I ever be repurchasing it.

It’s thick, it’s foamy, it’s fantastically fresh, it’s satisfyingly stuffed with just the right ratio of scrubbing beads. Scented with our Original Pink™ fragrance.

How cute does The Scrub Of Your Life look? A Body Scrub with a fun name, in adorable, all-pink, travel-size (mini) packaging! Sadly, same vile Original Pink fragrance. Also, I’ve had better (scrubs). I probably picked this up from the Bargain Bin at Boots.

Soft, smooth sexy skin whenever you want it. Contains natural mandarin peel extract and bonus built-in body lotion. Scented with our Original Pink™ fragrance.

Somehow, I’d managed to accumulate 2 of Clean On Me. Once again, this product also had that horrible Original Pink fragrance. For something that claimed to be a “clarifying” shower gel, this just felt like you were applying an extremely heavy body lotion on to your skin. Generally, the point of showering is to get clean (by getting rid of the dead skin, sweat, and whatever else), not form a barrier over the unclean skin (which is effectively what happened due to the ridiculously thick texture of this particular shower gel). I started using Clean On Me in conjunction with the E.L.F. Mineral Facial Cleanser (which was another dud). I’d mix the two into a paste, hoping the combo would feel somewhat abrasive which would possibly help make me feel cleaner, as opposed to using each product by itself. Needless to say, Clean On Me did not make me feel clean. In fact, it made me feel far from it!

With babassu oil, sea salt and moisturising jojoba and mandarin oils. Scented with our Mist You Madly™ fragrance.

Scrub ‘Em & Leave ‘Em reminds me very strongly of those scrubs from The Body Shop, from the oily texture of the body scrubs, down to the travel-sized (Mini) packaging in tub form. There wasn’t anything bad about this particular scrub per say but although it didn’t have that horrid Original Pink fragrance, I still did not enjoy the Mist You Madly fragrance that it did have. I believe I picked this up from the Bargain Bin at Boots as well.

A superhero strength skin smoothing body polish with shea butter, sweet almond oil, peach seed powder, sea salt and sugar. Transforms your scaly legs from reptilian to radiant. Scented with our Original Pink™ fragrance.

Another slightly more oily body exfoliator with a kinda’ unappealing yet funny name, Flake Away. I believe this particular Mini came in some sort of Value Set. Again, it had that Original Pink fragrance which I find just so unpalatable.

Award winning body butter with softening shea butter and aloe vera. Smooth on a handful after your shower and you might swear you’re wearing velvet. Scented with our Original Pink™ fragrance.

The Righteous Butter made me think of Unchained Melody (song) so I figured I’d pick it up and try it. Plus, a good moisturizer always comes in handy, no? For once, the Original Pink fragrance wasn’t as vile in body butter form. This was also part of a Value Set.

A naturally exfoliating, non-acid, seaweed complex that’s exclusive to Soap & Glory™ – plus glycerin, and antioxidant-rich PEACH & GOJUICE™ extracts. They’ll wipe your skin clean of dirt and make-up, help to clear your complexion, and leave your face feeling fah-resh.

• PEACH & GOJUICE™ (peach and goji berry extracts) – rich in antioxidants and vitamins A & C
• GLYCERIN – to help skin feel soft and supple with a MICRO-EXFOLIATING SURFACE TEXTURE – just apply a little pressure!

I remember buying several packs of this stuff (without ever trying them out beforehand) because Boots were having a Buy Two Get One Free deal. I regretted getting so many almost instantly. The cloths always felt like they weren’t quite moist enough (even though the whole thing came properly sealed) and as such they never fully removed all the makeup off my face, even with the use of several cloths. However, one cloth was more than enough to dry out my face, to the extent that I’d end up with white exfoliation patches all over. What’s worse is this stuff stung my eyes. I will say this though. They did have a pleasant scent that kinda’ reminded me of Neutrogena’s Pink Grapefruit Acne Wash. Thankfully, the ex developed a liking for them and took them off my hands. He’d leave a pack in the side-door of his car and take a cloth out to wipe his face with when the weather was most intolerable (regardless of all the ACs everywhere, Kuwait’s sun truly is merciless). According to him, these Soap & Glory Off Your Face Cleansing Cloths are refreshing. As for myself, I’ll never be repurchasing these but in case you are interested, they have since updated the packaging (same name still).

One Pit Wonder Deodorant (Discontinued)

I’ve already reviewed One Pit Wonder Deodorant (here) but in case you don’t feel like clicking the link and reading all that, I’ll sum it up, for you. It stinks, literally.

Peaches & Clean Shower Gel (Discontinued)

This was possibly my first Soap & Glory purchase ever. As you can see, the packaging is fun, all light blue, with funny excerpts all over, down to the name Peaches & Clean. The fact that they advertised it as a “Spa Strength Scrubby Shower Gel” might have had something to do with why I purchased it ^_~ Like I said, I’ve always always always been obsessed with exfoliating. Just add “Spa Strength” to any exofoliator and I’m intrigued, not to to mention Peach Extract, Pineapple Extract, Grapeseed Powder, Buffing Beads and Fruit Acid Smoothers, which just made it sound so potent. Tragically, Peaches & Clean Shower Gel was quite disappointing and nowhere near what I was expecting. It was effectively like trying to get clean using scented water, for all the good it did. The Buffing Beads might as well not have been in there. I could barely muster up a good lather, let alone any exfoliating action. Worst of all, was the God-awful Peach scent! Thankfully, Soap & Glory have since discontinued Peaches & Clean Shower Gel (and rightfully so).

Feel Good Factor™ Translucent BB CREAM SPF25, Super Eyes, Super Eyes™ Moisturising Eye Gel, You Won’t Believe Your Eyes™ Tired-Eye Re-Energising Moisture Serum

After all the aforementioned duds, I avoided Soap & Glory even as the hype surrounding them grew and grew. Only recently have I decided to try my hand at their Skincare.

Soap & Glory™ You Won’t Believe Your Eyes™ fights under-eye bags, dark circles and pigmentation, and has illuminating pigments plus anti-wrinkle actives and moisturisers to help lift, brighten and blur away flaws. Engineered with Live Yeast Cell Derivative (LYCD) – one of the best-kept secrets of the world’s top models – it helps noticeably reduce inflammation and puffiness, so you go from bloat to gloat.

• INSTANTIGHT™ QUICKSMOOTH WRINKLE REDUCER™ – for immediate plumping, skin-tightening and illuminating with SESAFLASH™. Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with a soft focus, flaw-concealing effect
• PUFFEASE-360™ – a firming, lifting, advanced moisture complex to help reduce the appearance of undereye puff and dark circles

I can’t seem to get over Roll-Ons. They just seem so efficient. I’ve already tried ones from Simple, Garnier, etc… so without a second thought, I jumped at the chance to try the one from Soap & Glory.

It formed a thick white (not translucent but straight up white) barrier that clashed with my skintone, sunk into fine lines, took forever to dry, and was quite sticky and basically an all-over mess (as you can see). Plus, I didn’t notice any reduction in puffiness or dark circles. I used You Won’t Believe Your Eyes consistently, and even went out and got another one and used it just as diligently, all to no avail. Therefore, FAIL.

Super Eyes, Super Eyes™ Eye Gel (Discontinued)

After the whole Eye Serum Roll-On debacle, I decided to try a regular ol’ Eye Gel called Super Eyes, Super Eyes (Surprise, Surprise… geddit? lawl). I know that caffeine is a temporary fix but apparently I was having a serious issue with puffiniess at the time. The adorable packaging didn’t hurt either.

A booster, serum, moisturiser, primer, skin-tone evener and sunblock all-in-one. FEEL GOOD FACTOR is a silky-smooth, light, brightening, colourless BB cream that’s loaded with skin-rejuvenating moisturisers, plus weightless SPF25 UVA/UVB screens to help fend off wrinkles, sun damage, and pigmentation. Featuring our exclusive UV-activated SUNTRIGGER™ antioxidant technology. It’s that perfect ‘everything you need’ cream.

• SPF25 ULTRA-LITE UVA/UVB SCREENS – youth-boosting, age-resisting, essential for fighting against sun damage, wrinkles and pigmentation everyday
• SUNTRIGGER™ TECHNOLOGY – sunlight-activated smart spheres that deliver extra protection when you need it, plus antioxidant ‘vitamin balls’ C & E to enhance the skin’s natural defences against oxidative stress and free radicals

Honestly, I was just looking for a moisturizer with sunscreen because I wanted to get into the habit of using sunscreen on the daily. Gotta’ be honest, I was intrigued by the “Sun Trigger Antioxidant Vitamin Balls” and wondered if sunlight would actually trigger anything (kept imagining the T-virus sequence from Res Evil lawl). Aside from the fun name, Feel Good Factor also had the coolest packaging (I love the utilitarian aesthetic for some reason)! Apparently, that’s still not enough incentive for me because I haven’t been as diligent about applying this stuff, sad to say.

Glow Getter™ Face & Body Sun Powder Spray and SIT TIGHT™ SUPER-INTENSE 4-D Body Serum

I also decided to some of their Body Care.

Glow Getter™ Face & Body Sun Powder Spray (Discontinued)

I’ve always believed that tanned limbs appear slimmer whereas my fave cousin seems to believe the opposite (it’s a source of a decade-long and still on-going discussion between us). Thanks Soap & Glory for confirming it (not that she’d listen anyway)! First of all, how cute is the packaging? Don’t you just die? Even the bottle itself appropriately Bronze! I’m not a huge fan of Pin-Up Glam (a la Benefit) but it really does fit in quite well with the brand’s aesthetic. As for the product itself, Glow Getter been formulated to where you can spray it both on your face and body. Generally, it’s either one or the other. It’s also a powder spray, so it washes off easily with water. Who wouldn’t love an instant tan in a bottle (aside from my cousin)?

Sit Tight™ Super-Intense 4-D is a targeted firming and smoothing lower body serum. Featuring our CIRCU-360™ tri-ball application technology to help stimulate circulation and promote body smoothing, and slow-release microencapsulated ingredients that optimise while you sit, skin feels firmer in 14 days*!
[*Results of Independent User Trial on 54 people]

I know, I know, this is a prime example of the ultimate gimmick-y product and I fell for it but c’mon, how could I resist? Any product that only requires you to sit for it to work, sounds exactly like my kinda’ product (most stationary person ever, practically part sloth at this point). Again, I’m well aware it’s probably a topical application and might very possibly include caffeine which means the results are only temporary but still, I just had to get it. Just Sit Tight for the results!

Sit Tight Body Serum, Glow Getter Powder Spray, Feel Good Factor BB CREAM,
Super Eyes, Super Eyes Eye Gel, You Wont Believe Your Eyes Eye Serum

Now can you see what I meant when I say I keep getting suckered in by the packaging? It’s all pink and cute (I swear, every single marketing ploy always, always works on me)! Also, notice how Sit Tight practically dwarfs all the other products (even though they’re all full-sized).

Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser
It cleans. It smooths. It melts away makeup. 3-in-1 Concentrated Deep Purifying Formula with Panthenol, Sweet Almond, Orange and Lavender Oils.

Forgot to include the Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser. I got this because I’ve always wanted to try the Liz Earl Cleanse & Polish and since I’ll probably never get my hands on it (#thirdworldproblems) I figure this is the next best thing. I mean, the cleanser even comes with a muslin face cloth (as you can see, it’s quite big) which I think is pretty cool! The cleanser itself is formulated with Panthenol, Sweet Almond, Orange and Lavender Oils. They’ve since changed its name to The Ultimelt and updated the packaging accordingly but otherwise it’s still effectively the same product.

Soap & Glory’s cult-classic Sugar Crush™ Body fuses freshly-squeezed sweet lime, sparkling lemons, sweet vanilla musk and almond oil, with sea salt, smashed brown sugar, glycerin and macadamia oils to leave your skin feeling smooth, supple, and sexy. Miraculous on dry legs, elbows (really – all over), it’s energizing, exhilarating, amazing!

I was about ready to give up on Soap & Glory in its entirety until Sugar Crush Body Scrub came along and restored my faith in the brand. I was dying to get my hands on this stuff for the longest time but we only had the Minis (as shown all the way at the top of this post) and Holiday Sets available for purchase, at first. Eventually, more products trickled into Boots until finally I managed to get my hands on the infamous Sugar Crush Body Scrub! It wasn’t available in travel-size (Mini) so I had to purchase the full-size but that’s fine because I already knew I was going to love it. It’s another one of those oily body scrubs and normally I don’t like anything that leaves any residue but… the scent is everything!!!! Sugar Crush literally smells like straight up Skittles! No joke, this stuff smells ah-mah-zing! In fact, it kinda’ reminded me of Bath & Body Works Tru Blue Spa Refreshing Citrus Body Scrub in the scent Need a Margarita. So, so good! Nowadays, you can get Sugar Crush in several forms (moisturizer, body spray, etc…) and it’s also available in several sizes. In fact, Soap & Glory came out with several Sets that only consisted of Sugar Crush products. If nothing else, I strongly suggest you give this a sniff try!
