Jo Malone Haulage

I was at Marina Mall when I came across the fabled Jo Malone Boutique. I’ve only ever heard beauty gurus on YouTube talking about Jo Malone fragrances (at which point I would “X” out of the video because I didn’t think a Jo Malone Boutique would ever open up in Kuwait and due to shipping restrictions I would never be able to order any of their fragrances online so I wasn’t interested in learning more about them).

One of my favorite “gurus” won’t shut up about one of the fragrances, Wood Sage & Sea Salt from Jo Malone so I was super excited to give that a sniff! Sadly, I didn’t fall in love with Wood Sage & Sea Salt. In fact, I sniffed almost all their fragrances and didn’t fall in love with any of their scents, until I came across a gorgeous, GORGEOUS, gorgeous scent that happened to only be available in candle form (sad face) Of course, I snapped it up immediately but I still wanted a Jo Malone perfume… or cologne intense, as they call it. I mean that was what they were known for, right? Luckily, I came across a mash-up of my current fragrance obsession; Oud and Rose. I don’t know if it was a gift with purchase (gwp) or they were having some sort of promo going on or what, but I also got two deluxe samples of another cologne.

Everything and I mean errythang, was beautifully packaged! The products were safely nestled in dark tissue paper inside a beautiful keep-sake box (complete with a ribbon which I ripped off because I’m a savage).

Even the receipt came in a tiny envelope thing-y, which is just so convenient, because now I don’t have to search high and low for the price of their products, or have to resort to going to their website, finding the products (sometimes discontinued), converting the currency to Kuwaiti Dinars, and calculating the difference. I could just be like blah blah blah retails for x amount and blah blah retails for y amount. Boom. Done.

Oud & Bergamot Home Candle
To uplift, to wind down, or simply to add an air of luxury. Transform the atmosphere with the scent of precious oud. The mysterious, smoky character of this revered wood, central to Middle Eastern fragrance traditions, radiates with the clarity of crisp bergamot and an orange granite accord.

Top Note – Bergamot
Heart Note – Cedarwood
Base Note – Oud

What a ridiculously gorgeous scent! Initially, I was just drawn to this candle because unlike the rest of them which came in a clear jar, this came in a black jar and I thought that would look pretty cool in my apartment but after giving it a sniff, ermahgerd!!!! Oud & Bergamot smells divine! It reminds me of Anfasic Dokhoon January 23rd Eau de Parfum as they both have that smoked wood feel that Oud fragrances tend to have, which is a fantastic scent in and of itself but when paired with the citrus-y quality (kinda’ like Skittles!) of Bergamot, it just comes across as so sexy! Move over Mahogany Teakwood, I’ve found a new “hot guy” candle.

Apparently, Jo Malone Home Candles are so fancy that they come with a pack of their own matchsticks! What’s more is that they come in all-black! If that’s not bougie, I don’t know what is.

Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne
Darkest Damask rose. Rich and textural, wrapped with smoky oud wood. Spiked with clove, decadent with praline. Magnetic.

Top Note – Clove
Heart Note – Damask Rose
Base Note – Oud Wood

When I first spritzed this on in-store, I wasn’t that impressed. All I got was “old lady” scent. As it dried down, I started noticing the powder-y quality (which would be the Rose in this) which I’m loving at the moment, with a hint of sweetness. It does have Oud Wood but it’s a more feminine take on it. I figured since I’m a female and I’ve got an ever-growing collection of masculine oud fragrances, might as well get a feminine version of the stuff. I’m not sure why but wearing this makes me feel like a “proper” adult, as opposed to the rest of the time when I feel like an impostor; clueless kid only pretending to be an adult. It’s not my favorite perfume of life but it’s the one I liked the most out of all the Jo Malone Colognes available. I believe this would be great to wear during the holy month of Ramadan or even during Winter.

Pomegranate Noir Cologne
The sensuality of a daring red dress. Ruby-rich juices of pomegranate, raspberry and plum are spiked with pink pepper and laced with Casablanca lily and spicy woods. Dark and enigmatic.

Top Note – Pomegranate
Heart Note – Casablanca Lily
Base Note – Guaic Wood

I didn’t notice these until I got home and unwrapped everything (even the candle came with a cute little ribbon, not just the gift boxes) come to find out I’d gotten two little deluxe samples of the Pomegranate Noir Cologne which came packaged in their own little box complete with a ribbon on top.

Overall, for my first purchase with Jo Malone, I must say I’m quite impressed. Sure I dropped a whopping KD85 on a candle (KD28/500) and a cologne (KD57/000) but everything from their customer service (sales assistant didn’t hover around me unless I asked her a question to which she would answer sufficiently and was actually quite helpful in assisting me with my purchase), to the extremely tasteful packaging (everything is packaged with tissue paper in a keepsake box that’s held shut with a ribbon tied into a bow, even the samples!), to the superior quality of the products (the cologne lasts and lasts while the candle can scent an area without even having to be lit) makes it seem like I’m getting my money’s worth. I’m glad I stumbled upon the Jo Malone Boutique and have visited them several times since.
