Normally, I prefer my lipbalms to be scented, flavored, and have nice packaging. I’ve never really been into ChapStick because the only one readily available in Kuwait was the boring old regular one (Classic). It goes without saying that I never tried it because I was never even tempted to. Even when Katy Perry mentioned it in her song, all I thought was “ewww… cherry” (can’t stand the scent and taste of artificial cherry). When drugstore.com started selling ChapStick Green Apple, I was ecstatic! I quickly added it to the rest of the items in my shopping cart and placed my online order. I loved it so much that I’ve been repurchasing it (in bulk) every time I place an order on drugstore.com/beauty.com ever since, but unfortunately that’s no longer an option because drugstore.com and beauty.com closed down (read all about it – here).
Even though it doesn’t come with any sort of outer packaging, as you can see from the photo, it’s still sealed. You get to break the seal yourself. The packaging isn’t all that exciting but apparently ChapStick has several different lines (Classic, Moisturizer, Total Hydration, Medicated, 100% Natural, Fan Favorites, and Season Flavors) each with packaging that is unique to its line. None of these (aside from Classic) have made it to Kuwait, and they probably never will. The Moisturizer line consists of Moisturizer Original, Moisturizer Green Apple, Moisturizer Vanilla Mint, and Moisturizer Raspberry Crème, all in the dark blue and black packaging.
The reason why I loved this was because it had a green apple scent! I absolutely adore apple-scented anything and everything, but green apples are by far my favorite (as mentioned – here). Every time I’d apply the ChapStick, I’d get a whiff of the delightful scent, and it just made me so happy! It also had a green apple flavor which I didn’t notice at first, because I drink a lot of soda (as mentioned – here) and eat a lot of skittles (as mentioned – here), so even when I’d lick my lips and they’d taste sweet, I just assumed it was due to something I’d recently imbibed or ingested. When I finally realized it was my ChapStick, I didn’t think it was possible, but I loved it even more! It tasted slightly less tangy than my favorite Lemon Lip Balm (reviewed – here) but just as sweet.
In fact, when I was a newly-wed, I’d wake up before my husband, quietly sneak off to the bathroom to wash my face, brush my teeth, curl my lashes using an eye-lash curler, spritz a light-scented body mist on, apply my Green Apple ChapStick, and get back into bed, strategically fanning my hair out on the pillow, before closing my eyes, and attempting to fall back asleep. It is a bit silly and embarrassing lol but I wanted to act all nonchalant as if I normally woke up like that (wide-eyed, sweet-scented, etc…)
One of the claims is that it provides 8 hours of moisture but I can’t attest to that because I’ve never gone that long without reapplying it. The green apple scent (which I love!) dissipates pretty quickly, which is why I’m constantly reapplying it (to be able to smell the delightful scent). It’s also got SPF 12 which provides UVB protection, which is always a plus. ChapStick is a pretty good lip balm in it’s own right. No shade, but it’s not as hard and waxy as Neutrogena Lip Care Sticks (reviewed – here) nor as emollient and easily breakable as C.O. Bigelow Lemon Lip Balm (reviewed – here), but a happy medium of both.
This blister-pack of 3 is the last of my stash. Since drugstore.com is no longer up and running, I’m going to have to resort to ordering this stuff from amazon.com or something, because I just don’t see myself going without them. Sorry for the horrible quality of the picture (my old camera died on me, so I got a new one because it was tiny and cute, but as you can see it’s also pretty much useless, so I’m on the hunt for yet another camera, this time focusing more on the quality, rather than how cute it looks).
This should give you a better idea of what the blister pack looks like.
Interestingly fact, ChapStick played an integral role in the Watergate Scandal! The ChapStick tubes were modified with hidden microphones and were used as a spying tool (as shown in the photo above)! The Watergate ChapStick is on display at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum located in Michigan, United States.
Anyways, if you are interested in a Green Apple scented and Green Apple flavored lip balm, I suggest you give ChapStick Green Apple a try. Personally, I love the stuff!
