Happy New Year luvies! Did you have fun celebrating? How’s the first week of the New Year treating you? I had (and I’m still having) lots of fun which is a nice change from last year which was brutal for me in every which way but let’s leave all that bad juju in the past and instead enjoy the now! I hope this year will be a much more positive year for everyone!
There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.
Yeah I totally just quoted Kung Fu Panda (just roll with it hehe). I managed to get up to date with both my MAC stuff and Bath & Body Works stuff which gave me some breathing room to focus on Hair Care and Skincare posts. I was also planning on doing an Empties post and a Favorites post but I dropped the ball on my MAC stuff and have been playing catch up ever since. I have a Body Shop haul and possibly a Sephora haul coming up but I’m not sure if they are going to be before or after the MAC posts. I promise you that I still buy, use, and actually finish up products from other brands besides MAC and Bath & Body Works but my neurosis won’t let me move on to another brand until I’m all caught up which I’m fully aware is totally ridiculous (sometimes it feels like I’m on a hamster wheel running in place) but it’s just the way I’m wired.
I’m also thinking about branching out and doing a couple of lifestyle and entertainment blog posts focusing on books, tv shows, movies, music, videogames, fashion, home decor and such. As if I don’t have enough on my plate hehe The reasoning behind that is sometimes I might come across something that’s worth sharing but there’s no place for it on my beauty-focused blog, unless I make the space for it, which is exactly what I’m trying to do now. I do love playing with makeup but my interests are not solely limited to it. I also hope to be more active on social media but it can be tricky switching back and forth between two separate accounts (personal account vs blog account).
That said, don’t expect to see my face anytime soon because I value my privacy. At first, I was planning on eventually putting myself out there, even though I was strongly advised against it by my family (because Kuwait is still pretty much a conservative country). Now that I’ve seen the backlash against the more prominent “influencers” in Kuwait (for example The Real Fouz) and how these women are being treated (even the way they are spoken to) by the companies that manage/promote them, I’m quite relieved that I didn’t. I’ve seen some of the comments people leave on Huda’s (Huda Beauty) Facebook and Youtube and she’s based in Dubai (which is supposedly more evolved than our little Kuwait) and I don’t understand why people feel the need to be so cruel. They pick apart everything she says, does, and wears with such spiteful comments. It’s very disheartening. Their words weren’t even directed towards me but I feel indignant on her behalf (as I do for all the other women who are putting themselves out there, especially in our region). That is precisely why I choose to remain anonymous, indefinitely.
I’ve got enough problems of my own including but not limited to a certain little copycat (I see you little kitty). At first I was delighted when I came across her blog (because it meant our little community of Kuwaiti Beauty Bloggers was growing) but over time I noticed that with every little tweak I made on my blog, I’d see the exact same change on her blog. So I changed the entire layout on my blog. Lo and behold, a few days later the entire layout of her blog changed to match mine. I understand that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and believe me I’m very flattered because that means she thinks I actually have a clue about what I’m doing (I really don’t… it’s more of a trial and error process). To my little copycat, how about next time you say hello instead?
