Throwback Thursday: Philosophy

Back in the day I used to use bars of soap instead of shower gels. It felt like it took forever to get a good lather going when used in conjunction with a loofah. Then I started using the strawberry shower gels from The Body Shop and the occasional random shower gel from the drugstore (jam3iya). I was lusting after Philosophy for the longest time because I heard about their 3 in 1 shampoo, shower gel, bubble bath product. Plus I really wanted to try out other fruity or gourmand shower gels besides the ones from The Body Shop.

Philosophy wasn’t available in Kuwait nor did they ship to Kuwait. So finally when good ol’ Aramex popped up, I placed an order with Philosophy and even though I was charged for it, I got an e-mail from Aramex telling me that my order was on hold and would not be delivered to Kuwait because blah blah blah. Apparently they don’t ship liquids (unless it’s under a certain amount). Lesson learned, sorta. So when Philosophy came out with a holiday gift set (as they do, every year) containing several deluxe sample sized/ travel sized products, I quickly placed an order. It contained a total of 6 recipe-inspired shampoo, shower gel, bubble baths in 2 oz bottles which comes to a total of 12 oz of liquid but because they were separated in smaller bottles, I guess 2 oz containers was Aramex’s limit.

It came in a gift set called The Holiday Cookbook and looked like an actual cookbook which I thought was hella’ cute! Underneath the bow was a little velcro tab that was keeping the whole thing shut. I’m wearing OPI in Alpine Snow because I like wearing white nail polish during the summer as I feel it off-sets my “tan”.

What’s even cuter is that The Holiday Cookbook had actual recipes inside (to match the shower gels) like a an actual cookbook. Even the shower gels had actual recipes on them!

Gingerbread, Cinnamon Buns, Spicy Pear Cobbler

Pumpkin Spice Muffin, Red Velvet Cake, Double Rich Hot Cocoa

Here’s the recipe they had for Cinnamon Buns.

After using up the shower gels, I had this propped up (as shown in the pic) in one of the corners of the guest bathroom (for display purposes) because I felt it looked so cute!

Out of all the shower gels (I never used them as shampoo or bubble bath) my favorite was Double Rich Hot Cocoa. They smelled fantastic, didn’t take forever to get a good lather going, and didn’t dry out my skin. After that I was hooked on Philosophy (and shower gels in general)! I found a few random Philosophy products at Sephora somewhere in UAE (United Arab Emirates) but those were severely picked over so I refrained from purchasing anything. I had to resort to either ordering online during the holidays if they had a suitable holiday gift set that Aramex deemed fit to ship over or get family members who are traveling abroad to get some for me. Over the years, I’ve tried several products from them but their 3 in 1 shampoo, shower gel, bubble baths remain as Philosophy‘s star product (at least to me).

Philosophy is now available at Harvey Nichols (The Avenues) in Kuwait.
