Here’s what they say:
GARNIER FRUCTIS STYLE XXL BODY
Don’t let your hair fall flat! Garnier Fructis Style XXL BODY with cotton flower gives your hair “Xtra-Xtra-Large” body for ultimate thickness and hold that lasts all day.
WHAT IS XXL BODY?
A new generation styling mousse, infused with thickening agents, provides hair with maximum body and all-day hold.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Garnier Fructis Style XXL BODY with cotton flower has a unique weightless formula and powerful holding technology that builds voluminous structure to give hair extra thickness, extra body and hold without stickiness or buildup.
I was really happy when I found the Garnier Fructis XXL Body Thickening Mousse at the Salmiya branch of Sultan Center because I’m tired of dealing with the sub-par offerings from other brands. This is not my all-time favorite, (holy grail) mousse that I’ve mentioned in this post but it is from the same brand and I fairly like Garnier Fructis products but I decided to purchase it anyway just to try it out. I did put in an order (which is a really cool service at Sultan Center and I suggest you take advantage of it) for my tried and true/all-time fave/holy grail mousse but I will use this stuff to tide me over until my order arrives, or at least that was my mindset when purchasing it.
I didn’t bother with reading any of the stuff on the back and just used this the way I normally use any other mousse. I just got out of the shower, patted myself dry with a towel and draped a smaller towel on my shoulders (because I’m kinda’ anal about inadvertently getting any type of product on my skin especially when I’m fresh out of the shower, as I’ve mentioned here). Then I went to the bathroom sink, squeezed golf-sized amounts of mousse into the palms of my hands and worked them into my hair, all the way from the roots to the ends, scrunching and holding each section for a few seconds. Then I flipped my hair upside down and did the same, only holding longer, this time. Finally, right side up, using the bathroom mirror hanging over the sink, I’d mess with my bangs (fringe) with my fingers and put the finishing touches (fixing an errant strand, or twirling a particularly straight strand around my finger and holding it that way for a few seconds, or even running my hands under water to dampen my hair and reactivate the mousse, etc…). The final step is to just let it air dry. Usually it’ll rise on it’s own like a cake in the oven resulting in big, beautiful, bouncy, soft, smooth, frizz-free curls/waves. Obviously, the result you get depends on the type of mousse you are using.
I’ve only used this stuff once so I can’t really “review” it yet but my hair did not rise, like, at all. Even without any product in it, my hair usually has some nice volume going on but not this time. What’s more, this specific mousse made my hair feel sticky (which made my freshly washed hair feel dirty) insofar as much that I showered again only a few hours later just because it aggravated me that much. Also, there was no delightful “fruity” apple scent like my favorite hair mousse (also from Garnier). The smell wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. It says cotton flower on the can so maybe that’s what this scent is?
That said, I did cut my hair but not taking that into consideration, I used the same amount of product that I’d normally use when I had longer hair. For the record, I’ve always had long hair but I cut it (yes, by myself and no prior experience, like, ever) into a lob (long bob) purely on a whim. I kinda’ regret it now because I’m plus-sized/over-weight (or whatever the pc term is nowadays) and longer hair makes you appear slimmer, or at least that’s how I feel. My weight or being over-weight has never bothered me before but I’ve also never had my hair be this short before. Anyways, I had used a lot of product so maybe the mousse will work better with less product next time. The thing is, every time I wanna use this mousse again, I remember how awful and sticky it was and change my mind. I figure by writing this post, I’ll have an incentive to actually go through with it. What about you guys?
