Today I’m reviewing Extra Volume Collagen Mascara from L’oreal.
It actually reads Extra Volume Mascara With Collagen • Instant Impact Brush.
The tube comes in all black packaging with gold print, and is a bit on the chunkier side. I actually like the packaging because it fits nicely in the hand and looks cool as opposed to that awful gold packaging.
The brush itself is huge which is to be expected from a mascara that claims to add volume. Personally, I like a big brush on my mascara. Like most L’oreal products, it has that funky grandma perfume scent which you can detect immediately once you take the brush out of the tube but it dissipates upon application.
As for the application, this is where things get confusing which I’m going to go ahead and blame it on the collagen. It applies beautifully and gives me gorgeous super dark lashes but also gives my lashes a weird texture. To the touch, they feel soft and slightly sticky yet springy or bouncy like rubber. Even though they’re fully dry, several hours later, they still feel like they’re in the process of drying. This is with one coat, mind you. Don’t get me wrong. This does not transfer once it’s dry regardless of the slight stickiness. It does flake off throughout the day, though. So I’d strongly suggest you steer clear of this if you wear contact lenses.
Here’s how I apply this mascara. First I tilt my head back slightly, looking downwards in the mirror. Next I apply the mascara to the base of the lashes and brush through them upwards. Nothing fancy, pretty straight forward application. This mascara doesn’t add much length to my stubby lashes but it does add plenty of volume, as I said. It doesn’t play with other mascaras, though so I can’t remedy the length issue. Oh, and it’s also incredibly hard to remove. Needless to say, I’m not a fan and will not be repurchasing this any time soon.
