‘Ello, ‘ello! Today I wanna talk about face wash. I’ve always had the mentality that using any type of products after a shower is just going to make you dirty all over again so I stayed away from most types of skincare, haircare, etc… for a very long time. For my shower routine, I’d use shampoo, conditioner, and soap in conjunction with a loofah and pumice stone. After a shower, I’d use deodorant. Pretty basic. I didn’t even have any preference as to what products I was using. I’d just use whatever mom got from the jam3iya (local co-op, drugstore, market).
As a teenager I discovered and loved Seventeen magazine, YM, J-17 and all those other magazines geared towards tweens and tweens which consequentially bombarded us (the consumer) with Neutrogena’s 3-step skincare routine which planted the seed of need for me to try out some skincare. One day, my curiosity was peeked as I picked up a random face wash only because it had exfoliating beads and even as a tween I loved exfoliating with my loofah so using tween logic, I had to have it. It turned out to be the L’Oreal Exofoliating Gel Wash from the Pure Zone Line which I’ve loved for many years now. I’ve introduced it to both my brother and my sister who equally love it as much as I do.
Here’s the low-down. It came in a squeeze-tube with a flip-top cap (see photo above) and it had a gel consistency with blue exfoliating beads suspended in the gel. Once you rub the gel on your face, the beads burst as they exfoliate your skin. Then when you rinse your face with water, your skin gets a nice tingle-y feeling usually associated with mint and such. It left my face nice and clean and refreshed. I only used it once a week during summer and twice a week during winter because my skin was always combination skin (dry face, oily T-zone) so I’ve never suffered much from acne or other skin problems. It was only 2 – 3 KD at the drugstore which was super affordable and convenient because I went through it pretty quickly.
Then they reformulated my beloved face wash and changed the packaging… over and over again. The last one I picked up was completely different. Gone were the exfoliating beads. Gone was the delightful tingly sensation afterwards. Even the smell which wasn’t apparent at all before, had a strong chemical scent to it now. That was my last one and I will never purchase it again.
Ever since then, I’ve always been on the hunt for the perfect exfoliating face scrub but none of them are anywhere near as good as the L’Oreal one was, before they messed with the formulation. Do you have a favorite face scrub or face wash? Do tell!
